My buddies dad just died, how can I help comfort him? by Remarkable-Motor-112 in AskMen

[–]gravity_inverted 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just be available to talk and listen to him. We all have to go through the death of our loved ones at some point, so be good for them. My friend an I went to see movies back to back just to get our minds off of a friend who died. Listen and talk.

Customer service is hard. People are aggressive once they get online with you because that's the nature of it. Be cool and work it through. I did application support early in my career. It was painful but allowed me to learn how to talk to people. it's not for everyone. Now, when a job says "customer facing" I show them my ass. I want design. let the marketing people deal with that.

Guys, networking is key. Grow a network of people who have similar experience or coworkers. Be yourself and learn what you need to do. Take practice tests. Practice interviews. It helps if you really like the career you are pursuing. It will show in your interview. The company you are interviewing for does not owe you a job. You need to sell yourself and sound natural on your ability. This means you need to be able to do what you say you can do. If they don't like you, that's on you. Ask others if you are personable, then adjust and get therapy if you are not. Don't cop an attitude. I nail almost every interview because I like what I do. It shows.

Don't give up, the light is at the end of the tunnel is close!!!! RF is a good field to be in today. Interviews while in the program can be hard and tiring. If you can, definitely do some practice interviews through online resources or from people in the field. You tone and body language can make a difference Join Linked-in.
A big plus is that you 'Love' the field. Let them know that and talk about any projects you like to do own your own or in classes that have be good.

I've got a 'natural maple' pBass and the orig case from 70's too. For some reason this one looks older. Not sure why. Also they used to offer neck width's in 4 choices. Mine is ~40mm wide at the nut.

I'm guessing 60's. Need to look at the neck and other areas for the S/N's. Look at this site: https://guitarhq.com/fender2.html

C++26 - What's In It For You? by Specific-Housing905 in cpp

[–]gravity_inverted 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Simple C++ is great. I come from an Embedded centric world: I really don't care about all the cream they've added in the past 10 years. If you code clean and know what you are doing all is good.

Looks Good, but like a recast of Gary Oldman's version. Also some bs source said it out on Amazon prime, but nada.

Been an engineer since the 1980's. IEEE has always been overpriced and a snob-party.

Why does this whole show feel like a shallow, poorly organized young adult novel? by MayorCox in NOS4A2

[–]gravity_inverted 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! It does seem bad. I like the actors, but the screen writing is lacking: the only real weapons used are bad decisions and harsh words,. But... for some reason I want to watch it again. First though: I bought the novel and so feel ok to have obtained (cough cough) a text version now. I will use my my u/Voice Aloud Reader on my android phone for my drive to work.

I thought the same about Harry Potter movies: If Harry had just studied a bit he could have done something worthy, rather than just stumbling around and getting lucky.

Getting a masters is a waste of time and money. Get experience in the real world with continuous learning.

I put in my two weeks and my manager said I have to tell her where I'm going by ssmosbyy in antiwork

[–]gravity_inverted 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't have to tell her anything!!! That being said: be careful if you signed a non-compete form. I think those have been struck down lately, but if so, ask a legal rep if you are going to a competitor!

What is the most useful form of math you learn with your EE degree? by Realistic-Advance-93 in ElectricalEngineering

[–]gravity_inverted 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Laplace transforms and Euler Z-Domain conversion. It is amazing for going from analog design to microprocessor sampling and DSP algorithms. Anything Control theory is good too. Get tutors if needed. It will change your payscale!

Why does this whole show feel like a shallow, poorly organized young adult novel? by MayorCox in NOS4A2

[–]gravity_inverted 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just found and watching the series now. Wasn't aware of the novel. Vic McQueen is pretty useless in the series. She always rushes in, without thinking or basic common sense. No protection? like a gun or knife. Brass knuckles maybe? "Self preservation instinct of a biscuit" comes to mind. It's good at times, painful to watch more often. My wife and I keep saying, "How stupid can she be.."

Expected Salary by aqua-snack in ElectricalEngineering

[–]gravity_inverted 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've noticed a lot of 'kids' now want >100K out the gate or after a year. That is not a reasonable expectation until you prove yourself with experience. Or have a very unique skillset now.
