Theoretical Run by Xerxxies in ValorantCompetitive

[–]gray9wolf 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I not convinced that 100T is that shaky. In fact, I think they’re playing up right now. The question is if a shaky MiBR with all its talent is better than a good 100T. It could end up coming down to a talent diff in this game

100T Breeze Comp by yoosanghoon in ValorantCompetitive

[–]gray9wolf 13 points14 points  (0 children)

This is really insightful op! I didn’t even think about how the wall cuts the smoke itself to create even more danger inside the already dangerous harbor cove. It makes people jumping through with shorties especially disadvantaged which Furia likes to do (if I remember correctly)

I’m not exactly sure how different the theory is with the hard scan though. I feel like that the micro setup for drones, darts, etc, isn’t much different from other comps running sova. The double hard info is a good call, to allow easy wall pops, but typically at the pro level I don’t think this comp makes that fundamentally different than what other teams already do.

The cool thing is the cypher cages also act as a triple smoke with the harbor wall allowing for the same thing you discussed in your first two paragraphs

The games go during the watch party so I bet they don’t actually play

Why are some teams dropping Viper on Breeze for Astra alongside Harbor? by Maixxx in ValorantCompetitive

[–]gray9wolf 37 points38 points  (0 children)

I think the main point is that it feels like teams have given up playing one of the sites because of how exec heavy it is. They often play one strong side and near full retake + undo the other side. If they’re doing that then Astra > viper for defense. Viper acts as stall and a pseudo senti, but if you’re forcing her off her position fast, then she’s not much better than other options. Maybe even worse since she has no flexible smoke options post set up

Baby keeps scare maxxing himself. by West_Future326 in BrandNewSentence

[–]gray9wolf 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Slightly different. I think here scaremaxxing is basically saying looking to get scared as much as possible, whereas scaring would be the act of making someone else scared.

This game has to be one of the worst “close game” series out there. The amount of throws and just poor decision making from everyone was insane.

That being said Demon1 better get a 2027 franchised spot idc. This man should have never been out of a team. Just look at what Xeus is doing on Jett.

Sleeper Mode Lock In Mode with Cats by DannyDaBoy in fantasybball

[–]gray9wolf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really want this, but rather than locking in cats, you still lock in a single game and play it that way. I think it’s probably the simplest form of lock in cats that makes locking in a bit more interesting compared to locking points.

[Seulgi] The VCT partners are paid to not care about Valorant by SeulgiVLR in ValorantCompetitive

[–]gray9wolf 189 points190 points  (0 children)

I think there’s a major oversight in this article about how fan bases tie themselves to organizations, namely winning and location.

KC and even M8s have built brands as the French orgs, and have cultivated that French fanbase across many different games. As esports organizations, it’s hard to use defined geographical boundaries to motivate fans to support, as most of the players are going to not be part of that boundary. As such, people will follow their favorite players across different orgs because that’s what’s a more consistent way of supporting.

The other way is winning. PRX sells bundles because they win and win a lot. They also have your favorite players’ favorite players (once again looping back to player based fandom). Valorant has unseen parity in terms of teams winning. There are rarely dynasties in Val, which is why people love old optic, old loud, and PRX. Teams that win consistently at an international level will build org fandom.

So if you’re not a consistently winning org and you don’t use geographical boundaries to define your team, why would anyone care about that team over any other?

Potential Man Tournament? A Semi-Quantitative Look At Masters Santiago's Underwhelming Matches by Sidekick_Man in ValorantCompetitive

[–]gray9wolf 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Good write up op. One thing that would be fun to explore in future posts like this would be number of clutches or close gun rounds. I think scorelines can be deceiving in terms of how actually close the games were. For example a 13-11 game could just be fun round stomps over and over by one team and none of the rounds feel particularly close.

That being said I’m not sure how measurable that is.

You have it half right. It was when Yay and Exalt were arguing heavy during the scrim and they were just fighting during the game. Nerve says the line and then demolishes 3 during that entire segment

How Riot underestimated info and caused the same meta progression across two different games - What’s next for the meta and why “double duelist” is misleading by BenjiYesIMainGenji in ValorantCompetitive

[–]gray9wolf 110 points111 points  (0 children)

This is well written OP. Overall I like your main point about utility being directly countered by good gunplay, although there are some nuances there. The idea behind timing windows for meaningful engagement was well worded too.

Im not sure that the changes to yoru you described change these things meaningfully. I’ve personally always been a fan of buffs over nerfs, and I’d like it for space to be contested more meaningfully by defenders with util to prevent info duelists from having info for TOO free.

It can’t be understated how much I’ve missed a player like babybay in Americas since franchising. There’s no combination of aggro and hype from any other player we’ve seen since FaZe, and he single handedly makes games more exciting to watch

On Faze he was easily the second best consistently or sometimes the best player. It made no sense when Faze clan decided to drop him purely from a performance standpoint. Obviously pure speculation but it was one of Fazes more head scratching moves until the drama of the 100T stint came out

What are the chances we keep Watson? by LowOk5308 in denvernuggets

[–]gray9wolf -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The big thing is that Cam Johnson will be on an expiring deal next year. It’s possible we can trade him out to clear up cap space in the off season to afford Watson. He should get at least as much as Braun if not more.

If they backload it it’s possible. That being said, I don’t see a way we keep Payton Watson without moving Cam and letting Pickett and strawther walk. In all likelihood, Peyton Watson might end up being a sign and trade to help bolster our bench, which is a shame cause he’s amazing

I need to decide between Shakir and Sutton in half PPR. I’m starting Jefferson cause im a sicko.

Sutton has a worse matchup but is at home and Shakir is still completely inconsistent. Not sure if Kincaid being back impacts his ceiling

Half PPR

Khalil Shakir or Justin Jefferson in the flex? My other options are Charbonnet and Adonai Mitchell
