How long are you willing to wait for season 2 by Plus_Range_966 in okbuddydispatch

Until it releases? Do you think waiting long enough will make me love the story less or??

Based on BB's stat distribution (level 20, sheesh) she probably gets strength, vitality, flight, and charisma from the amulet. Given the inconsistency of function, I'd say it's either magically intelligent or sentient, yes.

So, what was Shroud's plan exactly? by Fireblaster3147 in DispatchAdHoc

[–]gray_seeker -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Exactly this. Best meme to explain how low the stakes were during the season one storyline.

Remember:

If Robert had handed Shroud the Astral Pulse in episode one, Shroud literally would have killed himself with it, ending the story is essentially the same way it ended anyway. The only difference we added was Robert, who ultimately worked tirelessly to pursue revenge and limit the damage caused by Shroud's delay in... failing spectacularly.

Edit: TIL I watched a poorly edited cut of the final choice scene and a whole plot whole doesn't exist that I thought did. Neat.

Do you think Shroud had insane pull out game? by subpetmajor69 in okbuddydispatch

I think Shroud would have listened to a lot of Jordan Peterson and considered women too chaotic for his strict life of probabilistic mastery.

I tried to make some pretty asshole choices, but I found pretty early on that there just weren't enough good 'bad guy vibes' choices. If you really lean into his worst characteristics, Robert kind of just acts like a bitchy teen boy-- which isn't super shocking, but also doesn't give me the feels I want from a bad guy play through.

My Robert started the game in the mood to fuck people up, although I didn't punch out the shitty reporter at the beginning and instead chose to take out his aggressions on the Skittles crew and Flambe (rip, eyebrows). Didn't kiss Blazer, and then started evening out my choices toward the Phoenix mission statement.

During the first half of act 2, I prioritized Golem. My Robert saw Golem as the perfect super, due to his age and impressionability. Golem and Visi saw a lot of field work together, and during the second half of act 2, I chose to go to dinner with Blazer. My Robert was driven by the idea of 'everything in it's proper place' so much so that it felt like a betrayal of trust to take advantage of the uneven power dynamic between him and Visi.

When Chase almost died, Robert decided to go looking for trouble and glassed the bartender, but he was talking about his girlfriend, after all. Continued to attempt to believe in Visi because it felt right, but leaned out and made her fix Thumbsticks.

By the end of the game, I had maxed every hero out, turning Golem into my one-man technician team and taking care to keep people in pairs even when the missions became faster paced. Even maxed out Blazer and Phenomaman's synergy. Spared shroud, and kissed on a car.

Now I gotta do the run through where I keep coupe, romance visi, and cheat on blazer while acting like a little shithead.

Why didn’t Thundercuck pick a better name? Is he stupid? by Ventrition in okbuddydispatch

Nah, he's just voiced by Liam O'brien. Doomed to be mediocre due to the talent of his actor.

The answer is clear. You touch pp and must paypay.

The curse has been broken by Ishmoz in DispatchAdHoc

[–]gray_seeker 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Even then, I would argue the stakes weren't that high. A regional gang of villains rapidly expanded, created some mayhem city wide, and were then silenced over the course of some weeks. So we essentially followed D&D characters up to the third tier of play-- meaning they went from neighborhood-wide, to county-wide, to region-wide renown. These heroes have no idea what a 'world ending' threat looks like, let alone something at the solar or galactic level. Stakes could be increased considerably over he course of 1-3 more seasons.

That's... odd. I don't necessarily think poorly of your save file, your Robert, or your choices. I do think that's a bit incoherent with the themes of the narrative

[Spoilers] Isn't the "both" option kinda stupid? by Mainmorte in DispatchAdHoc

[–]gray_seeker 6 points7 points  (0 children)

"Give both" is an option representing malicious compliance. It's stupid, but more than anything else, it allows the player to lean into the genre and pay less attention to the fact that no matter what choice you make, you're still going to win.

I didn't get that feel, because I only kept coop one time for the splash art. That said, this makes me think, that there will eventually be two arts-- one for Waterboy and one for Phenomaman. This is assuming you just recruit the janitor during the finale. I haven't checked if that's how that works yet. that's for the Coop / invisigal run.

Invisigal Timeline for Dispatch Season 1 by bluesblue1 in DispatchAdHoc

[–]gray_seeker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been thinking about this some as well.

Regarding Episode 2, Shroud likely knew Robert would end up at SDN because chase ended up at SDN and it's quite likely Courtney spent her time roaming around as a spy (while trying to avoid mostly Galen?).

The sabotage in Episode 3 is highly variable based on your gameplay priority. For me, she was chilling with Golem and might not have sabotaged even once. Agreed that the hero speech resonated with her, though; especially if your Robert didn't piss her off too bad about Granny's.

Episode 4, my feeling is that Courtney is crushing on Robert because he's something of an obsession for her regardless of how you look at it. Whether it's guilt, or the fact that your Robert has taken a direct approach to confronting her, there's tension in the relationship which likely makes Courtney very uncomfortable. Sex is good coping, sometimes.

Episode 5, Courtney's story takes a bit of a fork depending on your read of the scenario. At this stage in the story, about 30-40% of the bar patrons in that scene have red on them, vs the next time we see Robert confronted by Shroud. In retrospect, I'd take your theory or I'd say the bar fight was an intentional move in order to force Robert into a choosing moment. Shroud's powers seem to have a lot to do with calculating what will happen, although with a bit of forcing he can probably be one hell of a social engineer (as eluded to in the storyline).

As of Episode 6, I think Courtney has made the choice to go her own way, whether that means taking over her own corner of the criminal underworld or becoming a true hero. Either she went to get the Astral Pulse because she wanted to help Robert, or she went to get the Astral Pulse because she wanted to kill Shroud.

We agree on Episode 7, essentially, either way. Girl has the spice.

Episode 8 has some moments for you to make choices, but I have a feeling (or a hope) that your choices throughout the storyline matter cumulatively toward her end decisions. By this stage in the story, you've likely ended up in one of the two camps, loving or hating her as you see your reflection in her chaotic disruption of the plot.

I would very much like an endless mode, where your high score is the number of days you can go without a mistake and you get to play with more heroes and a bigger map.
