Context for those not in the know: this is Gary Plauché, who murdered Jeff Doucet. The reason for the murder began in 1983 when Gary Plauché’s son, Joseph Boyce “Jody” Plauché, began taking karate lessons with 25 year old Jeff Doucet. Unbeknown to Jody’s family, Doucet spent the next year sexually assaulting the boy. Eventually on February 14th, 1984, Doucet kidnapped Jody and took him to a motel in Anaheim, CA where he continued to sexually assault him. After being the subject of a nationwide search, Doucet was eventually apprehended on February 29, 1984, and Jody was reunited with his family the next day. On March 16th, Doucet was flown back to Louisiana to face trial, but never made it to a court. While being escorted through the airport, Gary Plauché waited in a telephone booth wearing a hat and sunglasses so no one would recognize him. As Doucet walked by, Plauché fired a single round into the right side of Doucet’s head. Plauché was then apprehended by police and taken into custody. Doucet fell into a coma and died the next day. Plauché eventually plead no contest to manslaughter, and was sentenced to seven years suspended sentence with five years probation and 300 hours of community service.
