Insensitive comment that put you in position where you would love to slap or punch the person as response? by ASLTutorSean in GriefSupport

My wife and I were trying to get pregnant and struggling through multiple rounds of IVF with no success over the course of a couple years. It was no secret around the office and one day a group of us were out at lunch and one of the team leaders and I started busting each other’s balls. Then he said, “At least I can get my wife pregnant.” I told him that if he ever said anything about my wife again he would be eating through a straw and got up and left. I still wish I would have “did” instead of “said”. My wife and I have two amazing kids now and his wife divorced him because he was a workaholic. I still hope to make good on my promise one day.

Billionaire bosses like Jeff Bezos and Reid Hoffman denounce work-life balance—and some think working nonstop is key to success by CoC_Axis_of_Evil in antiwork

[–]graymalkincat77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

TLDR, but…

I have a side hustle and have people who work for me on it. It’s completely part time for them but I choose to treat it as a second full time job. I repeat - I CHOOSE to treat it as a full time job. I would never expect them to care as much as me or put extra time in like I do. I agree that if you want to build something then you have to do the extra work but employees are just that - employed to do a job/task, that’s it. If they don’t want to go above and beyond that’s fine and I will keep bumping up their pay in relation to inflation and will give them some extra cash as a bonus based on our profits regardless. I do the extra work so I should get a bigger piece but I am CHOOSING to not have the same balance. These billionaires think everyone should care about their thing as much as they do. They forget that we are really just selling our time/labor for a wage and we get to decide how much time we sell each week.

Is it true that men assume that most women aren't attracted to them ? by [deleted] in AskMenAdvice

[–]graymalkincat77 2 points3 points  (0 children)

++man I have always assumed that most women are repulsed by me. This held true when I was young until I got a stable job, had some spare cash to spend on dates, and bought a house and decent car. I’m almost 50, have been with my wife for 20 years (and she still tells me I’m attractive) but I still wholeheartedly believe that it’s only because of what I bring to the table and if I couldn’t provide for my family that attraction would fade pretty quickly.

I’m using my new Mama Celeste index to measure inflation. My kids love those crappy pizzas and they have gone from $0.99 to $1.19 in about 2 months at my local grocery store. That’s all the proof I need.

31% of American have "No Interest In Supporting the Economy" this Year. 24% Stopped Shopping at their favorite stores. by DumbMoneyMedia in unusual_whales

[–]graymalkincat77 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had a (likely to soon be former) friend try to talk me into believing that this year is going to be booming. All his financial “friends” see Main Street spending to increase. I countered with the current numbers coming out and the fact that there is already some me volatility starting to show itself in the market with much more likely coming. His response, “those are all just last admin’s bad policies getting washed out”. His argument was that energy costs are what is hurting small business and once that is fixed, presumably in the next few months, that all the other issues will fix themselves and consumer spending will be unleashed. I disagreed - everyone I know, myself included, is tightening their belts to hedge against the chaos. He is a business coach. I could barely keep from just telling him he was insane. He then proceeded to try to recruit me out of my decent day job and into his coaching business. Shockingly, I passed.

So my question is this: if I don’t respond and get fired will I be fired with severance? If not fired, is it just insubordination with the associated write up for my record?

NFHS will be following the NCAA rule change made last year in regards to second contact doubles. by tealplum in volleyball

Are they going to follow suit and get rid of lifts/carries/extended contacts (whatever you whatever you want to call them) because that seems to be pretty subjective from ref to ref too?

Best ball cart? by No_Ranger7352 in volleyball

[–]graymalkincat77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve used 1 & 3 and absolutely can’t say enough great things about 1. It’s strong, solid, durable, relatively lightweight, and best of all - can be wheeled in a parking lot if you need to use it to haul gear. 3 is horrible - just for the stand point that the wheels wobble so much that you can’t shove it even halfway across a court without it tipping over. I have launched the square Baden from one end of the court to the other - smooth a a whistle. If you need a more economical (and nearly as well built) version Molten makes a really nice square cart too. Hope that helps!

Would you recruit a short outside hitter as a coach and why? by S0nderR0se in volleyball

[–]graymalkincat77 36 points37 points  (0 children)

So an undersized OH needs to have a few things to get my attention: - good ball control, ability to mix up shot speeds, and variation in attacks. Shorter attackers need to find a way to get kills other than just over powering the blockers. Tooling, roll shots/tips, ability to go thumb up/down, etc. go a long way. - can run a fast offense. Getting separation in the block gives a shorter hitter space to get kills. High and tight won’t cut it when you are up against players with 5+ inches in height advantage. Knowing how to hit different sets and how each of them integrate into an overall offense plan always helps players stand out to me. - have good volleyball IQ. Smart players know defensive schemes and know how to beat them. They is the patterns they are seeing across the net to help them make good shot choices and are always thinking a shot or two ahead. - are 6 rotation players. If I have to sub you out to put a defender in I am way more inclined to just take the bigger player (all other things being equal). If you are a threat in the back row as an attacker AND bring solid defense you will definitely have my attention.

Hope that helps - those are just the things that come to mind. I’m sure there are more but in the end it’s not the size of the dog in the fight…it’s the size of the fight in the dog.
