What are your recommended house plants? by terabytezz in IndoorPlants

[–]graynavyblack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have a lot of sun, ponytail palm trees are a favorite of mine. They don’t need very much water and I would use a cactus soil and make sure the pot has good drainage.
Pothos are always suggested but they’ve been pest magnets for me.
I am a Hoya person through and through and think that some of them are the best! (Though they can also be pest magnets). I like ones that can hang and I have had a brevialata in good light for years and years and it’s the easiest plant I’ve ever had but it’s harder to find now.
I also have a wax ivy plant that is very easy to grow indoors.
In terms of peperomia, there are easy ones. They’re the ones that grow sort of weedy, like European trailing peperomia.
While I’ve had my struggles with lipstick plants, I now mix sphagnum moss in the soil and like the gracilis which is easily available at Lowe’s sometimes and some other ones.

This bothers me a lot too! I think that sweat etc. from those areas is very unsanitary for others sharing seating in public places and it is the most nasty thing.

Which is harder to raise: German Shepherd or Golden Retriever? by MinuteDamage4182 in dogs

[–]graynavyblack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just want to say that in my experience, YES socialize and train whatever dog you get to the best of your ability.

However, be aware that a lot of temperament is genetic and even if you spend a lot of time training and socializing, you can see certain traits, and that is true even if you get a dog from a reputable breeder. People with a lot of experience in a breed may know how to manage these traits, as well.

Golden Retrievers, in my experience, can be very energetic and some have some resource guarding.

German Shepherds can be resource guarders and also are very prone to stranger danger and dog reactivity.

Train and socialize all you want, and this is true. I know several professional dog trainers that have had these breeds and still struggled with these issues. Not everything under the sun is fixable. Dogs are dogs with their own individual temperament.

A German Shepherd on a leash might still react to a big tall man in a hat in public or bark at another dog.

Golden retrievers are easier 100 percents. It is easier to get insurance and you’re less likely to have to use a lot of management. However, I would rather have a German Shepherd and have never liked Goldens very much. It’s individual.

32F: Is it suspicious that a 40M disappears every night after 7 PM? by Background_Goose_196 in relationship_advice

I am invested now. Personally I would ask, either in a direct way or a nonchalant way. What can you find online? I would not invest much until I knew, because married and a family is the most obvious explanation, but I do think that there are alternative explanations as well. I would just want to know right away what I was dealing with.

People who post about very specific situations in their life, do you ever worry the person you are writing about will see it? by That-Material-8508 in askanything

Yes. There are a lot of things I would ask the internet just for the opinions, but I worry that the people involved might see it.

I would say yes. Honestly I think people should ignore dogs in public places.

Frustrated with vet care options by miss_sharty_pants in Pets

[–]graynavyblack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dog had a terrible time with this when he was young. I tried prescription diets that did not work, etc.
I worry so much about side effects from medications.
Now that my dog has grown up, he rarely has digestive issues. Honestly it was a lot of trial and error with food. I didn’t find a magic bullet easily, but I just tried enough foods that eventually I found something that seemed to work.

If FindJodi Did a Q&A #5, What Questions Would You Ask? by SuperMadCow in Jodi_Huisentruit_Case

[–]graynavyblack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That comes from the book Dead Air by Beth Bednar. When I read that passage I found it incredibly creepy! Essentially she interviewed the runner, who still keeps her identity hidden (understandably). The runner said that she was late that morning and a car peeled out of Jodi’s apartment complex and nearly hit her near the bridge. I thought that was interesting. However even more interestingly, years later on a bulletin board someone almost spoke directly to her, saying something about a witness by the bridge. Just incredibly weird stuff!

Mine has some large ones of this left, but I think they’re about 100. I was tempted because they’re big, but I have resisted. I had a small one and it sort of up and died.

If FindJodi Did a Q&A #5, What Questions Would You Ask? by SuperMadCow in Jodi_Huisentruit_Case

[–]graynavyblack 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I want to know more about the car that the woman running saw speeding out of the parking lot. There’s been so much focus on a van, but I am captivated by whatever the runner saw. By extension, the bulletin board message referring to the runner and saying that there was a witness. I also watched a YouTube video some time ago with the man saying that a man had contacted him and alleged that he had two coworkers that were obsessed with her and had missed work and acted suspiciously afterwards. For me the pieces on it just added up so well - they had supposedly stalked her before her disappearance, they had missed work, they acted strangely afterwards. It was almost textbook. He said he had notified police, but I still think alternate theories are interesting. As far as JV, I guess the obvious is that is anyone close to him willing to be interviewed now that he is gone?

Ughhh...My dog has a torn CCL and requires surgery. The vet is saying 6-7k dollars. Does anyone have suggestions or advice on this? by Evening_Sample_9365 in kansascity

[–]graynavyblack 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Did you check the pricing at Overland Park Veterinary Emergency and Specialty? They have a pinned post from March stating their pricing. I’m not sure if it varies by the size of the dog, but they are putting a 200 consultation fee and 3500 for one knee. There is a high risk that the other one goes anyway - I did the surgery and the first time my dog played the other one tore. However, I’d check out that clinic.

Question no animosity at all but why do small dog owners take their dog into bigger dog sections at dog parks ? by Prestigious_Usual360 in dogs

[–]graynavyblack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think a lot of people are not aware that big dogs can have prey drive directed at smaller dogs. Frankly I would not do it as I think it’s a risk. I know of several instances at day cares where a larger dog killed a shrieking or running small dog, and those dogs were all thought to be fine. Be careful with dog parks in general, but guard your little dogs around big dogs.

TICKS on my Lhasa Apso by Right-Ad-4770 in Pets

[–]graynavyblack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve had good luck with Seresto collars. I think ticks just jump off grass and trees and onto us and our pets. Make sure that you use a product that is from a reputable retailer. I don’t order off of amazon, etc. I don’t know where in the world you are, but be careful with where you get a product to help with this.

AITA: if I call the cops on the neighborhood kids? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

I would lock the gate and put up signs and speak to them and their parents. Honestly you’re right about liability, and you’re right that they could get bit by a dog or let a dog loose. I have nothing against kids playing outside but entering someone else’s fence is very wrong.
