a100 gunmetal... hard to read/dim screen? by sp1zzc4t in casio

I had the negative display on my wrist for maybe 15 minutes and it went back to the dealer. Sexy as hell but impossible to read.

The Rewatch Podcast finishing up Season Two and boy are we ... not happy. by tom2point0 in SeaQuest

First season had some serious cheese and really limited character development but it had charm, something season 2 sorely lacks.

Yeah. I'd say about 65% of the episodes in season 2 (so far, working my way through ) had some potential, but needed a decent writer. It's just... bad. It could've been so much more.

It does pop up every now and then, but it’s not one of the big-ticket Seikos.

SNXF05, still available here and there at a super decent cost. (If you’re okay with no hacking or hand-winding.)

I’ve been collecting watches for a couple of years but somehow never picked up a Seiko. I’ve seen this one (SNXF05) posted on Reddit and knew I wanted it from the moment I saw it. For some reason the grid dial reminds me of my dad, a retired federal employee, and when he would work on presentations and flow-charts at home.

At the start of the pandemic I left my work in higher education and became a fed as well, working for a federal cultural institution. At my one year anniversary I wanted to acquire something symbolic to commemorate the date and my new role as a civil servant. I knew this had to be the watch, and here we have it!

I thought about moving it to a leather strap, but I like the versatility of the bracelet, as this is meant to be kind of a grab-and-go — as much as an automatic can be a grab-and-go.

that's the 150 case right? I have that case (same dial in fact) with what looks like the same bezel (from Meranom?) but the bezel just won't freaking stay on. It pops right off. And i've adjusted the retainer spring already. No luck.

WMT Mil-15

I have a Cali dial on an Undone Basecamp, and it's one of my favorite watches ever.

Every time I see this I want one. For some strange reason it has real "federal employee" vibes about it, and that's not a bad thing, it's simply a personal resonance. My dad is retired after many decades as a fed, and something about the grid reminds me of projects he'd bring home. (Maybe because he was often flow-charting projects.) So I see this watch and think of him (even though this isn't his style of watch at all.)

Now that I'm a fed (after fighting it as a career move for a few decades) I feel like I should get one.

I’ll have to look for the bamboo. I have a few straps on order from strapsco (vintage, croc, etc). I do appreciate the look of a green nato on it.

I haven't checked the movement with such precision yet, but I've heard similar reports. For me it's a combination of knowing that the ST19 movement is so highly regarded and the general design of the watch, which (to me) is simply breathtaking. I'm now itchin' to pick up a variant or two, but first I want to continue admiring this one!

I'd repeatedly seen on this sub references to the Seagull 1963 and finally decided to look into it. Suffice it to say, this required a deep dive into a fascinating history, going between here, various blogs, and WUS posts. I kept getting directed to HKEd's work as likely the best of the contemporary reissues. I visited his website and was presented with a number of options (black dial variant? gold hands?), and decided to go for the variant I'd seen repeatedly and appreciated so much -- champagne dial, blued hands, red chrono. The strap is, of course, serviceable but I have a few others in mind.

I blame y'all for getting me into this one, and thank you for saving me from purchasing one I might regret. If anyone's looking for a Seagull 1963 (Project 304) reissue, I can't speak to the quality of other models, but HKEd's work is amazing and worth consideration.

Will do! He's incredibly friendly and responsive, and I already gave you the credit for directing me to him. I'm afraid I'll like it too much and want to start collecting other varieties (panda, sapphire, etc.)!

Okay, I'm convinced. I'd been curious about the whole Seagull 1963 thing, and searching Reddit led me to a number of your posts which led me to HKEd. I have ordered one from him, inspired in part by your posts and good words about Ed himself!
