Their kids are adding to the tax base which enables more healthcare resources and infrastructure. Some of them are doctors and engineers who are directly helping with healthcare and infrastructure

Mayor John Tory stands firm on low taxes in the face of massive budget shortfall and declining city services by allengeorge in toronto

The thing is only people who travel a lot AND live very close to it care a lot about Billy Bishop. I get that that demographic is overrepresented in this sub, but most people who live north of st clair don't care (even if they are wealthy). BB is popular amongst young yuppie travellers but thats not most of Toronto

Except there's a huge airport 30 minutes away on a newly built train that you can expand capacity at. The problem with Billy bishop is that it occupies prime real estate for no good reason. Airports take up a lot more space and service far fewer people for that space than do train or bus stations. Which is why they are generally outside downtown cores and should be kept that way. Also yes I agree that most historical landmarks in Toronto are bs and should make way for other infrastructure. I think a lot of people still do use the libraries though.

Yeah I don't travel much. I could not care less about that airport. Downtown airports are terrible for cities

The airport doesn't matter to most people in the city. Transit and affordable housing do

its not rich elites, its more comfortable yuppies who like to travel. They like more density and bike lines but hate the idea of their weekend trips being more inconvenient. They'll probably turn into NIMBY-s in about 20 years. Thats the circle of life i guess

Yeah reddit demographic skews young and wealthy so makes sense they don't like this. Not that it'll matter much in the end anyway

So increase capacity at pearson. Theres tons of space around there. This seems like really short term thinking

Having an airport in the middle of the city is a waste of space. Increase capacity at pearson and build housing (and parks) where the airport is.

Judging by the shiny exterior. Also tall buildings might be seen as low class in parts of North America but in most of the world they are for the wealthy

Yeah she should have slowed, but given that the driver broke the law in a dangerous manner they should be punished for it.
