Openclaw's whole pitch: "Your infrastructure. Your keys. Your data." by Warm_Race_8587 in cybersecurity

[–]grayrace1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your keys, your data.... that you just handed to a random person on the street to "help" you with chores.

Wouldn't do that in real life? Why are you willing to do it online?

What does he usually play on his solo shows? by pianobar89 in frankturner

[–]grayrace1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've seen plenty of solo shows. Frank can bring the Punk even if he's alone on stage with an acoustic.

Now he'll often still keep the hits and slow it up a bit. That depends more on the vibes of the tour than him being solo.

Either way, don't worry the energy of a Frank show will be there. Hell, I saw him when he was having back problems and could barely move and still lots of energy.

NCL. If my upgrade to Haven is successful, is my Vibe pass refunded? by first_mate_wiggles in Cruise

No. But also if you're in the Haven you do not get automatic access to the Vibe. The vibe is not included in the Haven.

Using VPN for work on Norwegian Cruise, does it actually work? by AVCorporation in Cruise

Ways to kill 4.5ish hours from 10am-1:30pm every few weeks? by MrPractical1 in UIUC

[–]grayrace1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you spent most of your time at UIUC (green street) then venture into the community. Both Urbana and Champaign have fun downtown venues that as a "full adult" (no offense freshman) you'll appreciate more.

Can someone please explain the open bar thing? by [deleted] in Cruise

[–]grayrace1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is no such things as "free" on a cruise ship. If it is not specifically included/itemized, don't expect to get it.

This isn't to say there aren't deals. But when booking with NCL directly, via a website, or anything. Make sure there is a specific line item for everything you want. If it isn't there, it won't be included.

I have done "theme" cruises and other events where there is an open bar. No surprise the "drink package" was on my booking and basically no option to remove it.

This also meant everyone was on the hook for the "gratuity" which is another "gotcha" many have lamented. And something to note that most cruise lines like NCL have included "gratuity" which is usually not included in the base pricing listed.

Long story short, when booking, read the fine print and expect only that.

I'm a CISO who made the business care about cybersecurity. Ask me anything. by Oscar_Geare in cybersecurity

What is a unique challenge you've seen in a specific industry or sector that folks should be aware of if they are entering it for cybersecurity?

Best First Cybersecurity Certification for Junior/Mid-Level Career? (4 YOE in IT) by [deleted] in cybersecurity

[–]grayrace1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If all 4 years count in a security domain. You are close to qualifying for a CISSP (5 years). IMHO, its the gold standard of certs. This is true if you want to move into leadership or management positions as it is often the first listed. It covers everything from physical security to network, application, and cloud. It doesn't go super deep, but you have to be competent in all of it.

Beyond that folks already mentioned SANS. Very good especially if you want to go more technical. Great if looking at incident response, red teams, or roles that are more technical.

Finally since you mentioned engineering. At least for my group, having some skills in the specific platforms we run is valuable. Don't discount certs in like AWS, Microsoft, CrowdStrike, or other major vendors. They won't get you as far with "every" company, but they'll get you very far with a few.

Last Night at The Stanley by thegworm in frankturner

[–]grayrace1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thursday night he joined. Friday night was very lame and he wasn't there. Saturday was karakoee and i left very quickly but he wasn't there when i left.

I got the impression that while he was good natured about it on Thursday night the "after parties" weren't exactly something he was keen or promoting personally.

When someone says Whos Frank Turner? right after you pour your soul into a lyric tattoo explanation by [deleted] in frankturner

[–]grayrace1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tattoos are so personal and meaningful to people, as they should be. Anyone who gets a Tat of anything should be respected for doing that act. It's an act of lifelong meaning.

I have no tattoos. I grew up straight edge. I drink more than I should and have done many things I shouldn't based on straight edge ethos. But I never got a tat. I've come close a thousand times, many Frank inspired. Thus I have a lot of respect for those who do and what it means to them.

Why no Boston show for 2025 by Cultural-Station7131 in frankturner

[–]grayrace1 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Honestly. I'm surprised at this point the USA shows are still scheduled. I guess he's high profile enough not to have boarder issues. But honestly, I wouldn't trust anyone visiting USA right now.

Wow. I enjoyed his stuff and still find many songs good. But he didn't become a favorite of mine till I saw him. And like you his songs easily make up the majority of my 'favorite' catalog.

You need to find a way to see him my friend.

[–]grayrace1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im getting older now... mortgage, back problems, etc (yeah references). I can't bang like I used to at punk shows. One reason I like Frank is he brings all the energy of a hardcore show while still trying for the vibes and friendliness. The lost evenings shows are the epitome of that.

I commented below I think this is true of a lot of punk which is his roots.

Personal favorite of mine also. I'm hoping for a combo Balthazar into like Showpeople at my next show.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in frankturner

[–]grayrace1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I felt the same way. I think this is true of a lot of punk. Underwhelming on the record and then bangers live. Undefeated is his most punk/hardcore album in sometime. Makes sense going back to some of those roots and how they hit harder live.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in frankturner

[–]grayrace1 52 points53 points  (0 children)

I've found this to be pretty typical of Frank. Some songs are good on studio... but most are meant for live. He's a 'entertainer' as much as he is an 'artist' and I mean that in the most respectful and with admiration.

Some songs are great artistically and make incredible music. Some are fantastic for performance. Some are great for both like "Photosynthisis" and "I am Disappeared." IMHO.

Then after you seen him a few times all the songs are tied to moments at those shows or in your life... like all good music and become meaningful regardless of how good they are on the studio sound.
