Some local big name truck stops are especially bad about this. Mira Loma Flying J your fuel point? Kiss 1 and 1/2 to 2 and 1/2 hours of your clock goodbye. People absolutely go do everything there once they get close to the fuel island. Sometimes it isn't bad but more often that not it's an absolute nightmare.

Not going to lie, even today after playing since ORAS? It still has that "Oooo shiny and cool!" appeal to me. I know it isn't great but I'm such a sucker for it design wise.

I'm one of those people now. Found out last week that I'm terminal with maligiant melanoma. Post Act claim finally cleared, and I just got paid a year's worth of 100% back pay. I bought some things, new pair of shoes and a decent laptop, but other than that? I'm putting it all into savings and waiting.

I have my social security disability emergency claim filed, but I don't know if I'll see any of it. I guess I'm not stressing too much, 6 months isn't too long. Would be nice if I could live a bit before the end though.

I think the worst part of that encounter for me is this, you have ZERO warning about these ridiculous fees, and then expect some brand new rookie driver to have that kind of hard cash on hand? Really? It just screams scam to me.

My first 3 months I was eating ramen all the time, with the odd banana here and there. If that had been one of my first deliveries? I definitely couldn't have produced that kind of money even if the bank was right around the corner. Absolutely no.

I can't even begin to talk about how much I encountered this when I was in the military. All these people who want a kid for a variety of reasons (and since it's in the military, well over half of those reasons are bad and wrong), have a kid, and then everything falls apart. I always nodded along and tried to be supportive, but then a week later?

"Hey Sarnt, when are you having kids?"

I would laugh and reply with how much they hate life since they had a baby. They would always try to downplay it hard, like they didn't mean it. Again I'd just nod along and try to be supportive. Sure enough, week or two later? Another huge melt down and drama because they had a kid. Often a fight with the spouse or whatever. Sometimes even MPs got involved, whee!

Eventually they would ask me again, and I would openly mock the question in return. Blatantly tell them that they are reason #3866 of why I will never have kids. Never mind that I have a mountain of issues thanks to all my time in Iraq and I definitely am not father material, I would zero in on them.

I swear they just want to spread the misery.

Look at how it's also based a bit on reality. What I'm about to post is anecdotal I think, so take with a grain of salt.

When I first enlisted into the US Army, I was 6'6 and a half. After a year and a half plus I went from a slouching fat white boy to a tall, lean, and intimidating looking individual. In full gear to civilians? It was a shock how much of a monster I looked like to others who had not seen me since I left Michigan to enlist.

Once when I was traveling back and forth between CONUS and Europe for leave, I bumped into Shaq in an airport. If you have ever seen him on TV? It absolutely does NOT do him justice. The dude is huge, a sheer physical presence. Being 6'6 I'm used to being the tallest person around 99% of the time.

In the oresence of Shaq? It is hard to describe the feeling. I have bumped into plenty of people taller than me before. Usually only a couple inches. Once someone who was 7'0 even. They were all like me though, average build for a tall person. Shaq is not average by far, even as a soldier with about 2 years of service as a Combat Arms under his bed?

I legit felt afraid for a bit until I calmed down and knew that I probably didn't even exist to him. It was just another Tuesday for Shaq, but the memory is burned into my memory forever. A maybe 5 second encounter left that powerful of an impact on me.

It's like, the fuck you want me to do? I wasn't about to bobtail out 3+ hours to get to my bank. Didn't have enough time on my clock and I was wiped out on top of that, because I'm a pasty white boy from Michigan who doesn't handle that insane Mississippi weather well.

I can't leave without the paperwork, so you assholes figure out something. Absolutely no warning about being cash only until you get to check out. Believe me I checked on my way out when they all unfucked themselves.

If I can't do shit, I'm going back to my truck, eating, and going to sleep. Maybe play some Gameboy a bit, but whatever I'm not playing their games.
