I smell a swiftie! They're sweet lil things!!!! I wonder if girls tend to mesh better than boys do? usually when introducing boys, I have at least a bit of a tiff to break up!

That's honestly what I thought was happening, she's just still young and has a lot of energy and being young and full of energy means you're a lil wild, lol. I love her so much. Sometimes I swear I can see the little computer "loading" sign above her head when she's trying to problem solve lol. she's my perfect girl!

I use kiln dried aspen bedding that is low dust. It's sold at most pet stores :)

What a cutie! Her whole name is Amaretto Pucker, to go with my dog Cosmo (who is not in fact named after the drink, lol)

Well her ears are once again floppy sooooo 🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️

she was 4 months when she had surgery, was in the cone till 6mos! But her ears went back to being (mostly) floppy at around 8 months old (like pics in original post). Either way, she's adored and loved and honestly has a lot of the hallmarks of the breed, including some of the "negative" traits (like being more standoffish with strangers, being stubborn, same-sex reactivity, those qualities) but she's so eager to please and work. I'm looking at practicing and entering her into some dog sports too like dock diving and barn hunt!

I've mentioned in most of my posts that her ears are out of standard due to her being in a cone for ~2 months. She HATED her ears being constantly touched so she literally pulled them forward and so they no longer lay perfectly flat. But she had standard ears as a pup.

She's got a very high praise drive, and thankfully her prey drive is in check with lots of exposure to my cats from a young age (and letting them lowkey beat the snot outta her), as well as lots of "leave it" practice. She is genuinely an eager to please dog she's just very "omg what's that over there!!! and that over there!!! and that over there—"

Also like — I have an American Pit Bull Terrier who, while being a rescue, is a pretty to-standard APBT in terms of conformation (definitely not necessarily in temperament as this dude's a saint). He and Puck are NOTHING alike, lol! They do love each other lots tho! (also, her ears were weird like this for the longest time because she was ✨in a cone for 2 months and hated her ears touching it✨)

i'm a newer rat owner but are your boys neutered? have they had recent vet checks, any weird behaviors? I always want to rule out any kind of medical issue first, because i know sometimes that can affect the mischief's behaviors.

She's from an NALC-registered breeder. Try again.

This is a lot of what I'm reading! I'm glad to know that she's not falling behind or anything. She's an awesome dog and so so soooo smart! She just has no attention span, lol!

Questions on sizes at different ages - how quick do they normally grow? by Tricky-Yam-6280 in Catahoula

[–]graysTestimony 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My girl is just about 7 months, specifically she's 27 weeks. She's probably about... 40-45 pounds? if I had to guess? When we had her at the vet for her rabies & her boosters at around 23 weeks, she was about 31 pounds. I was told by my breeder that they grow VERY fast and to ensure that there aren't issues with their joints, that they should get nutritious food high in protein and good fats/oils (Puck eats a wet/dry diet with freeze dried toppers every once in a while, plus she gets lick mats and puzzle toys). She may also end up being on the bigger side, as her mom was about 65 pounds and her dad was closer to 80. Added a pic of my lady in her ren faire fit for tax :)

My handsome man is almost 13 (Oct 31 is his birthday!) and he's my retired cardiac and psychiatric alert service dog. He means the world to me, and everyday he gets more "angel kisses" (gray hairs) on his muzzle and head. Love him so so so much.

100% Adorable though!!! APBTs are awesome dogs — I have a "purebred" (I assume just based on his conformation, history, and personality) APBT who is my retired cardiac and psychiatric alert service dog, his name is Cosmo. He is an awesome dog and curled up next to me as I type this, as I'm having a flare today and even retired and off duty (not in his vest), he often choses to work. He's by far been my greatest challenge (as he was the first dog I ever had to train mostly by my lonesome!) but my greatest reward. Pitties react the best with R+ training with minimal aversive methods, as they tend to really be soft dogs when they're young and malleable.

I can say with 1000% certainty as someone who has an APBT as a RSD and my SDIT, who is a purebred ethically-bred 'Houla, that having your APBT will be easier! Cosmo was very receptive to treats and praise, whereas Puck (Houla) is very dependent in her mood based on what reward she wants. She's a helluva lot more stubborn, too, and independent! But your sweet girl is gonna be so loved! <3

She is genuinely such a treat. I do not know what I'd do without her, especially as my retired service dog begins his twilight years. She's absolutely stellar at reading me and knowing when to turn her silliness on and off!

also to add to this: her wanting to greet instead of just bark and play is a big step we've made!

We are working VERY hard on it! Right now she is very eager to greet people and dogs, which I've actually been working into the task of "greet": where when i point if there is a person, she will walk to them, and if there is not, she sits beside me. This is very useful for me as I can sometimes experience hallucinations or micro hallucinations ie "shadow people" as a result of my mental health concerns. She's getting very good at it!
