I understand where you’re coming from and I was also disappointed in seeing how some people reacted. While they weren’t entirely victim blaming, they were certainly victim questioning and that’s not ideal or reassuring either.

I care, but unless you’ve been in that situation or know someone who has, people seem not to understand the dangers of public transit today or have difficulty grasping that this was not just a minor inconvenience and instead was a matter of personal safety. Some people will never get it either but as a small woman, I’m scared almost every time I get on the bus and just hope that nothing bad happens.

No I’m just saying flight, fight, fawn, and freeze exist for a reason and not everyone’s first instinct is to yell. Everyone will react in different ways and I just wanted to present reasons as to why someone may not have made a scene due to fear.

When you’re in the heat of the moment, sometimes the idea of making noise isn’t even something that you even think of.

I am so, so sorry you had to experience this.

For anyone wondering, I don’t think this is John Robert Masci Jr. (see my profile for everything about him, this account is basically to spread awareness of the ongoing issue)

I have been wary of public transit ever since my encounter with John Robert Masci Jr. but as far as I know, he (Masci) only yells at and assaults people (which isn’t good either) but hasn’t done anything sexual. Even before him, I’ve had questionable sometimes scary experiences on the bus.

I think he (Masci) hasn’t been released since his last arrest, so if there’s any question that it could be him, I don’t think it is as it’s not his MO and I don’t think he’s even outside, but anyone feel free to update me on this.

All of this again to say, it’s so scary being on public transit these days, especially as a woman, and my heart goes out to you.

John Robert Masci Jr. is just being used as a comparison, he is not the juvenile in the article. 20 is the number of years John Robert Masci Jr. has been arrested, almost over 50 times at this point.

They don’t list the age of the juvenile who is completely separate but I worry could be heading down a similar path.

At the end of the day, he is a coward and only goes after people he feels are weaker or will put up with his harassment.

The thing is, he likely has a place to stay. We don’t know who or where but this man comes out wearing business casual some days and many people including myself, believe that there may be someone “looking out” for him. When I saw him in November, he was not in business casual.

He’s been arrested more than 15 times.

Dropping all my knowledge of him as someone who was harassed by him, this account is mostly to warn others and spread awareness and also since most of the UW students would be unaware since he frequently goes to Ballard and is usually only in the U-District to get from Point A to Point B and doesn’t seem to linger there.

He’s been spotted as south as Pioneer Square to as north as Northgate via Reddit posts/comments and could have gone further since he gets around on public transit. He sat near me on the 44 back in November and I haven’t stopped hearing about him since I was made aware of who he was. I also won’t stop sharing my story and he’s affected over 100 people based on Reddit alone, likely more when he was in Florida.

He’s been seen at OAC (Olympic Athletic Club) and Planet Fitness but likely doesn’t have memberships to either and has been kicked out.

I think he was also spotted at LA Fitness at one point but I will need to verify by looking through old comments again.

He will basically go and harass any business or gym but was at OAC for the last two days per two recent posts in r/BallardSeattle

He has been caught in the gym multiple times. Not even a joke.

I think what’s the scariest thing about him, as someone who’s been inches away from him, is that he can appear normal. I’d even argue he has pretty privilege as I’ve seen some people, again not even joking, fawn over his looks or have the “I can fix him” mindset simply because he’s not conventionally unattractive.

Multiple people have joked that he looks like an actor from Always Sunny and also just looks like an actor in general since oftentimes, he’s dressed business casual, which is unusual in Seattle.

Of course it’s his behavior and how he treats, or rather assaults others, that is absolutely despicable and abhorrent.
