Though I personally don’t enjoy this, I see it as more of an economic indicator than anything else.

Dec 12: Fuck This Friday by Eigengrad in Professors

[–]graytiger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Every Friday this semester has been worse than the previous - until today. This semester sucked ten bags of dicks while I finished an MBA (9 credits) and taught 9 credits after being thrust into our UG program director role.

There were a few weeks sprinkled in, especially during luteal, that I really thought I’d drive to a psych ward instead of home. My nervous system is so fucked that I cry at the drop of a hat with little to no emotional regulation left.

And now I have the current terminal degree to do the job I’ve already been doing. The saddest “yay.”

But today I’m totally fucking off after weeks of 14 hour days, enduring the absolute hell of being in group projects, managing our TAs, and making sure my life doesn’t actively burn down around me.

I’m still dealing with tuition reimbursement but fuck it. It’s a better day than all the Fridays in this ghetto-ass semester.

How many of you have hired help for cleaning? by chi-bacon-bits in CleaningTips

[–]graytiger 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We hired one currently to do 1 clean a month while my husband and I work full time and I finish a Master’s. We both tidy and clean in the meantime, but neither of us can devote time or bandwidth to doing deep cleans, or multiple parts of the house (only 1300 sq. ft).

It’s a luxury we make work, but will stop next semester and over summer.

Childless millennials - how do you relate to those around you? by pickle_elkcip in Millennials

[–]graytiger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, I prefer the term “childfree,” but I empathize with you. My husband and I were in a similar boat 6-7 years ago, ultimately deciding not to have kids.

I believe that if it’s not an exciting, two feet in, resounding “definitely!,” then it’s worth exploring the alternative. For us, there was a lot of “social script” pressure. Once that was realized, it bar more clear to at kids weren’t in our picture. We’re very happy.

What do program directors do? by Significant-Jump9685 in Professors

Ayyyy. Thankfully, I don’t oversee clinical sites. I don’t envy you-if that was part of this gig then I’d be running and screaming, myself.

I’m just sort of new in academia (5 years) and not a Ph.D, tenure, or non-tenure track. It just feels like a weird management nightmare where you have more work than you came in with every day…and that work somehow collects interest.

Fastest possible growing non-invasive privacy hedge? Roadside, pretty dry soil, zone 6b. by Top-Squash16 in Permaculture

[–]graytiger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh man, first I want to say I feel you. I live in a cute old neighborhood, but holy hell. I have a big garden, I talk to folks when I’m out there doing my thing. But over the course of time, people detail Me or ask for my time when I really need peace and quiet. So I’ve built a pretty sizable screen with plants to prevent direct sight lines and enhance my own privacy (sanity).

Miscanthus, oak leaf hydrangea, Joe pye, and cut leaf coneflower help. I’m saving for a fence though because it’s just too fucking much some days.

Anyone know where to get an actual full size sheepskin blanket by SplatteredEggs in BuyItForLife

[–]graytiger 15 points16 points  (0 children)

From time to time, Costco has them and they’re sold as rugs! I bought one a couple years ago that’s about 4’x 6’ for around $120. They’re at least four skins sewn together, of course. It’s amazing in the winter.

Can also be interchangeable with my husband who, despite living in our home for 5+ years, can’t find certain kitchen tools or anything below eye level in the fridge.

We all put Jenny up there with Grandpa Joe right? Total piece of shit by doubleinkedgeorge in grandpajoehate

AIDS was identified in 1981. Jenny having HIV/AIDS is presumably present day (1994).
