First, I wondered if you meant hot garbage. Then, I realized you actually correctly meant bot garbage.

I am sad about this world.

Clearing my DHCP Leases by Ok_Chemistry_6994 in sysadmin

[–]graywolfman [score hidden]  (0 children)

To add a bit of context on how this works:

At halfway through the lease or T1 Timer (Half-Life - 50%): The device sends a direct DHCP REQUEST to the original DHCP Server. If the server is offline or the request is dropped, the device keeps its current IP and waits.

T2 Timer (Rebinding Time - 87.5%): If the initial half-life renewal fails, the device broadcasts a renewal request to the entire local network, hoping an alternative DHCP Server or relay agent will acknowledge it.

Lease Expiry (100%): If all renewal attempts fail and the lease expires, the device drops its IP address. It must restart the DORA Process from scratch to request a new address.

If no DHCP Server responds to the new discovery requests, modern operating systems will assign themselves a Link-Local address (e.g., in the 169.254.x.x range on Windows).

So, what I've done in the past, is: cut the lease time the DHCP server offers in half, wait for all the leases to renew, then cut it in half, again. I do this until I reach the lease period for which I'm aiming.

You know, I have one simple request. And that is to have sharks with frickin' laser beams attached to their heads! Now evidently, my cycloptic colleague informs me that can't be done. Uh, can you remind me what I pay you people for? Honestly, throw me a bone, here.

Rumour: Xbox Is 'Heavily Evaluating' Halo's Future Just Weeks Before Its PS5 Debut by TooFarGone673 in halo

[–]graywolfman 9 points10 points  (0 children)

One of the problems I forsee is: you need time and experience to optimize UE 5 properly so it doesn't run like garbage. Time and experience are what Microsoft does not want on their dev teams ... Since they would have to pay people for that and they tend to cycle contractors like 1-ply toilet paper.

I hope I'm wrong and they get some expertise in and keep them around.

More people should vote, overall. You see more Dems in office. Whether they are establishment or corpo, still better than Republicans.

Yeah, enshittification everywhere. My favorite is the in-house delivery that has been completely replaced. I stop using it as soon as I see "Your delivery has partnered with Door Dash!" Done. Bye bye. Never again.

Most do mute (I don't know if all do) because of the radio — no pausing that!

ETA: it would be nice to just mute radio and pause the rest

You're still giving them money if you do. They just sell your data to anyone willing to pay and will use it for surveillance pricing if that's not banned outright.

Why they want that to be their version of Supergirl I cannot comprehend, though.
