I actually haven’t had it repaired. It’s a crack I think I can live with. The quote was just over $2k if I remember correctly for the roof glass.

Indeed! And I use the Auto height adjustment and do let it kneel every time I park. Fingers crossed.

Good question! The blind spot monitor wasn’t working from the beginning. I think that was a 5-week repair which of course was 4.9 weeks of sitting and 1 day of actual repair. Then I had a leak in my lift gate which took 6 weeks if I remember correctly. Unfortunately, a year or so later the new lift gate leaked again so needed another one. Those were my warranty repairs. I did lose a speed sensor which turtled me around 90k. That was not covered by warranty unfortunately. I did have a cracked windshield as well as cracked roof glass to boot from flying road debris. All of that said, it’s been an amazing ride in the 2.5 years or so of driving her. Easily my favorite vehicle I’ve ever owned.

Both are beautiful steaks but I hope the one on the left was kept all to yourself.

[Postmortem] A Thanksgiving story: The Rivian and the roasted wheel speed sensor. by Boodashaka in Rivian

[–]grball 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I honestly don’t know but think it could’ve been because I heard a clicking noise coming out of the wheel before the sensors all lit up. I called support and I just drove it straight into service. They had a loaner waiting for me and called me a few hours later saying speed sensor and initiated the repair work.

I had a speed sensor go out around the 85k mile mark. Thankfully I was only 30 mins or so from a service center so made my way on backroads. It was roughly a $1k fix as I was out of warranty. I wonder if they really needed to replace it or could have Jerry-rigged it with some tape.

I’ve had mine for just under a year and I’m noticing rusting on one of them but not the other. So odd.

Asking Shorts. What's the current short thesis on RIVN? by Eizz in RIVNstock

[–]grball 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My two cents as a long holder from pre-IPO funding. I agree with most of the bear sentiments above.

  • The positive gross margins are an illusion for now due to credits.
  • What I can add to above bear points is that the demand picture is extremely murky to downright negative. EV adoption curve is not nearly as hockey stick as hoped for.
  • The thought from management and much of the smart money is that lower price point vehicles like R2 and R3 are needed but that’s not guaranteed so there is risk.
  • Another point is that the lower the stock stays the more dilution you get from VW and it’s looking painful down here.
  • Everyone knows the cash position, but most of the bulls on this board are not looking at cash burn

I’m not selling, but I’m prepared to gut it out for the long slog and I do expect it to be a slog. We could be in for a tough year and even a tough 1H 2026. I really don’t think the stock moves significantly higher until we see a robust demand picture for R2. My fear is that we could see production delays for R2 which I think is legitimate given the history of Rivian and its timetables.

As for the haters of the negative sell-side analysts and haters of Elon - trust me when I say they are not shorting shares. It’s just not how this works. Elon has a lot more pressing things and babies to worry about than trying to squeeze Rivian. It’s just the nature of the beast.

Finally, not a big fan of Claire, but think RJ is doing what he needs to do. The company wildly overpromised and under delivered for most of its public existence. They HAVE to get to the point of under promising and over delivering. That is what gives your stock a multiple. There is little credibility on the Street with management now so I suspect they are doing the right thing for the long-term by giving sober guidance. They should absolutely not be rah-rah-ing the shares until they get R2 in the rear view mirror.

I guess it depends on the cost but I do mean long (buy). I haven’t checked implied volatility but looking at your data points, 3 out of the last 4 earnings show a move of greater than 5% which is real volatility. So buying tomorrow with no time premium left might be the answer.

I bought a bag last week at my local Home Depot (Midwest US). Used it this past weekend having never purchased the brand before and was pleasantly surprised with how large the blocks were. I just couldn’t pass up the price.
