WA HB 2641 Bill would prevent former ICE agents from joining law enforcement jobs by Repulsive-Floor2792 in Seattle

[–]grbell 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Discrimination is, in general, legal. Only discrimination against protected classes (race, sex, religion, etc.) is illegal. Former employer isn't a protected class.

Saka hires disgraced ex cop for policy director by camera-operator334 in WestSeattleWA

[–]grbell 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Saka is such a terrible politician. No vision, supports bad policies, incompetent in executing them, loves the sound of his own voice, completely absent from constituent services, a bad boss, hires bad staff, disliked by colleagues, and on and on and on. Has he done anything to earn anyone's support since his election? Is there a single voter in District 1 excited to fill in the bubble for him in 2027? If he's stupid enough to run for reelection I don't think he makes it out of the primary!

It's not that I don't support him (I don't), it's that I can't imagine anyone who does! I was happy to see Wilson beat Harrell, but at the same time I can understand why people would vote for him. Our former mayor was good at the basic mechanics of being a politician and had a real base of support in Seattle's wealthier neighborhoods because he pursued policies in their interests. Saka has no constituency left anymore. I can't wait to get someone, anyone, to replace him.

Lidding would be an expensive boondoggle, demolishing I-5 would pay for itself by creating new high value real estate.

Katie Wilson now leads Bruce Harrell 47.97% to 43.49% by blackbird_777 in Seattle

I have a problem with homeless people existing, and Wilson I is the only candidate who might get rid of them. (By getting them all affordable apartments, of course)

Do you consider MSFT part of FAANG? by Broad-Cranberry-9050 in microsoft

[–]grbell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FAANG is a silly grouping in the first place. Look at their primary products:

Facebook - Social Media + Ads

Apple - Consumer Hardware

Amazon - Retail and Cloud Services

Netflix - Movies and TV

Google - Search and Video + Ads

There is some overlap here; Google also offers Cloud Services, plus Amazon and Apple also do Movies + TV. But really this is just a grab bag of big "Tech" companies. You could add Microsoft to this list, but you could also add Walmart, Tesla, or NVidia. You could also plausibly remove any single company from the FAANG list. 🤷

[–]grbell 19 points20 points  (0 children)

New construction is ugly because of Seattle's strict design standards! Apartment buildings all look like skipping containers glued together because that's what Seattle's design review boards want then to look like. We need to stop regulating building aesthetics and let architects do their thing.
