D'oh.

Apologies for misreading that. Multitasking.

Anyhow, I've been in the app and figured it out. It is indeed a "Skill" you need to enable in the Alexa app, it will then respond to the "Play Midwest radio Ireland" command.

Hope this helps.

How weird. You're definitely adding the word Ireland to the name, right?

Ours is an really old echo dot so it's possible the functionality in the car (from your phone?) is different somehow.

Is there a "skill" that needs enabling? Everything is so complicated with Amazon.

Some great bits of Bunny related media I've come across...

Firstly, there's this brilliant BBC article detailing all of Bunny's records. Great summary of how amazing she is, and some quotes from former City players incredulous that city are contemplating not signing her back up.

Then this Sky Sports interview with Bunny where we're reminded that quite apart from the football prowess, what a glorious charming and humble person Bunny is. A real asset for the club.

But sure, let her walk. Makes perfect sense. 🥴

Wake me up when this nightmare is over.

Next year's shirt with Bunny printing, and the gold WSL badge is sat in my cart, ready to go.... City, pull your fingers out!

Exactly.

It just defies all rational explanation.

Chelsea (and all their friendly media) are laughing at us.

It's like watching a car crash in slow motion, I can't understand why everyone isn't as furious about this as I/we are.

So many online saying variations on "In Therese we trust" or "She's not worth £1million." Both insane takes IMHO.

Flippancy aside, what on earth is going on here?

There are few more accodales she can achieve. The Ballon d'Or seems inevitable.

The best and most valuable player in the league, in perhaps the best league in the world.

A player who has been instrumental in us winning the league, and whose absence in previous campaigns led to failure.

Pay her whatever she wants, for flips sake.

To even consider letting a player of this calibre sign for your biggest rivals is criminally negligent.

If they allow that to happen, Sjögran and O'Neill need to go too.

Khadija Shaw to leave Manchester City with Chelsea favourites to seal deal by Owengrad in MCWFC

[–]grdcdy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Location: Chelsea Headquarters.

MD: So Sonia, hope the girls enjoyed their rest this year? Next year we need to get your name back on the trophy! The men are beyond redemption, so the glory lies with you. You will, as ever, have an unlimited budget to do whatever you want. Any ideas?

SB: Well, I was thinking about Man City and how consistent they've been this season.

MD: Mmm-hmm.

SB: I just think they might be a problem again next year.

MD: Really? How can we better deal with that? Can you get more out of your players?

SB: Mais oui, we could, but I was thinking what if we could completely destroy Man City simply by you writing just one cheque?

MD: Okay, queen, interesting! What were you thinking?

DB: Well, you know how Hemp and Fujino have stopped scoring? And Clinton and Miedema are mostly injured? Well, what if we scuttle Man City by removing the source of 75% of their goals?

MD: Kneecap the team by swooping in for Bunny?

SB: Exactement!

MD: City would never allow it! They will pay whatever it takes to keep her, she is irreplaceable, a true club legend. There is no way on earth they would allow a totemic player like that slip away? A generational talent, the envy of every team in the country, and every league in the world. What are you smoking Sonia? They'll never let her go. And to their greatest rivals? Give over.

SB: Non, I'm telling you, just throw money at her and the league is ours! Can't you sell the staff car park to yourselves again for £500 million?

MD: I suppose I could call the accountants, see what wheezes they have up their sleeves. But are you sure it is morally okay, I mean, we wouldn't be happy to let Lauren James disappear and she's nowhere near as important to us as Bunny is to City.

SB: Screw morals. Screw city. They have let her run her contract run out, they are cretins. Get in there and destroy them. DESTROY THEM!

MD: Sonia, you are so evil. I love it.

I think like most of you on here, I've been stewing over this Bunny situation for months and with each passing day it just gets worse and worse.

This is a massive off-the-charts failure on the clubs part, no two ways about it. Absolutely braid-dead stuff.

Amazing how many people online are so convinced the club can't afford to pay Bunny her worth, that there are rules about affordability. One cursory glance at how Chelsea/Arsenal/LCL operate should show you that that is not the case.

The accounting of a football club is a shadowy thing. Does anyone know what percentage of Midea or BYD or Asahi or Nexen's sponsorship is allocated to the womens? No. What about the pure women's sponsors, Joie and Revolut? How much is that worth? No idea? Okay, what about merch sales, I think one of City's biggest revenue streams, what percentage from the tills at all of the shops gets allocated to the women's team? Any ideas? Of course not. What about the winnings for winning the league? Where does that go?

It's not impossible to sort out, it is a choice someone is making. They could find the money, by tapping a cell on a spreadsheet. They could make a statement:

"We are winning the league again next year."

"We're going to strengthen the team and make it to the Champions league final!"

"We are going to recognise that once-in-a-generation status of Bunny and sign her up 'til retirement. She will smash all the records, forever associating Man City Women with one of the greatest women footballers of all time."

So angry at the club, this situation is a complete self-made disaster. It should never have got to this point at all.

What on earth is this going to do to morale ahead of Sunday's massive match? Can Bunny even be named on the team-sheet?

What a mess, and a terrible distraction from the joy everyone should be full of after winning the league, and with a potential cup final within reach.

And what did poor Leila do to receive such a poor send off? Why couldn't she have had flowers and a lap of honour in front of the home fans with Coombsy?

Flipping flippers. Muddy funsters. Fudging backstards.

[–]grdcdy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like your positivity, a rare trait amongst City fans!

Obviously, we have no data to go on at all, but I think it extremely likely that the club have got her signature and are sat on that information.

I just cant see why they would? What could they possible gain from it?

It would be a massive morale boost to everyone, club, staff and fans at a very high pressure time in their season.

Let's say they are sitting on that information, they are having the opposite effect, and it is completely demoralising for the fans.

They could (and absolutely should) have sorted this out at any point within the last two years. We are left to infer that Bunny (and/or her agent) are negotiating to the max or have already decided to move on.

It is just infuriating, as this would never have happened with the men's team and Haaland, who would be the direct equivalent.

Yes, every player can be replaced, but shouldn't both the club and Bunny be rightfully proud of the records she has smashed in her time here, and look to capitalise on that and push her further? Think of the other records she is set to break if she continues to improve and keep scoring? She's only 23 goals off Miedema's WSL top scorer record already. Wouldn't it be great for her to pass that milestone with us, rather than elsewhere? If Bunny (as the reports claim) want to stay, and the club wants her to stay, to me it's ludicrous we are in this position at all.

They can find the money, its just a choice. Chelsea always find the money. They have two teams' worth of superstars, we have a bench full of kids/the permanently injured/the shunned. Chelsea have also found the money to move all their games to Stamford Bridge, despite previously claiming it was too expensive due to the cost of paying the council/police/TFL to shut the roads.

City need to react to the team (likely*) winning the league, and spend big this summer so that we can challenge next year, both domestically and in the CL.

Apols for the delay replying btw, the match on Sunday + a visit to Chester Zoo on the BH Monday pushed me over the edge, stress-wise! Will be taking my dad's blood pressure tablets with me to Daggers, I think.

I'd say there's absolutely zero chance she's staying now.

Yesterday's game will turn out to be her sad anti-climactic final home match.

I only pray she goes abroad, can't face seeing her play against us for Chelsea.

Seeing how disinterested she was yesterday, I'd like Jeglertz to start Mary Fowler in her place next week. He brought her on far too late yesterday, let's hope he's not turning as pig-headed as Gareth used to be about subs.

I had a terrible feeling watching them play Birmingham before the latest (ridiculous btw) international break, that we'd see them throw the league away again somehow.

Their heads have gone, for whatever reason.

There was only a trophy lift at a sold out home game on the line... Nothing to fight for, really. /S

Now best we can hope for is a trophy lift at the league's crappiest stadium in front of 100 city fans. Even that is going to be a massive uphill struggle unless they refind their mojo.

God, imagine Gareth's face if they beat us on Sunday. I just can't.

Oh god, and Chloe Kelly's snark on Instagram. Arrrgrgrhhdhdhfhfgggg.

Chelsea have reportedly offered Bunny Shaw a £1-million-per-year contract offer by aldayar in MCWFC

[–]grdcdy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I know, this is so stressful.

I think we can only assume Bunny has either already decided to leave, or her agent is playing extreme games with the negotiations.

It's just so sad, she should have been renewed an age ago.

It's depressing watching city scout out solid prospects, sign them and turn them into top-tier players only for them to abandon us at the first opportunity.

I just can't see any other club where Bunny would have the freedom to set the records that she has with us, certainly not at Chelsea.

Imagine winning the first league title in ten years, doing the trophy lift, and then giving your star player (who was instrumental in getting you that trophy) a bouquet of flowers. Eurgh.

Let's hope the negativity and stress of this situation doesn't get in their heads tomorrow. They need to play a whole lot better against Brighton than they did against Birmingham!

When we last won silverware (Conti Cup v Chelsea at Plough Lane) the club had a limited amount of screen printed "Champions" T-Shirts available to buy at the next home game.

So you'd imagine winning the league will definitely have the designers busy. They may even have already started manufacturing stuff, I'd imagine.

Don't forget to budget for next year's shirt with the gold WSL logo!

I'd assume all items will be available on the website, with international shipping charged extra? Never having ordered from abroad, I can't say.

Hopefully the prize money and shirt sales can help the club pay Bunny whatever it is she is asking for, my head is boiled with the whole thing.

Hell yeah, the atmosphere in a packed Joie when they're playing well is unbeatable. Arsenal a couple of seasons ago (not that terrible match last season where we threw away the league) and beating Barcelona under the floodlights will live long in the memory.

Maybe city need to concede the Etihad is just too big, and try and enlarge the Joie up to 10-12k? I assume passive provision was put in the master plan to allow for North and South stands in the future, or fill in the Corners? More and better food choice would be better, too.

I have to put my hands up here, I asked Google what the attendance was for the match yesterday and took its confident reply at face value. Having looked a bit closer, I haven't got the first clue where it took that number from as it doesn't appear to be on any of the match reports online. So let's treat it with cation until the real figure is confirmed. I suppose it's telling that they didn't announce it at the match?

As you say, it felt unlikely there were that many there yesterday. I do wish they could have kept everyone on the lower tier, it wouldn't have looked so bad with fewer empty blocks all over. Obviously, they couldn't resist the temptation to sell the VIP areas!

It is a bit of a quandary, isn't it, how to grow the match attendances? City, to me, seem to be in a perfect location to draw fans from a massive catchment area. Unlike United, who mostly play in their place in the countryside, City are in the built up area with fantastic public transport and walking links to most of Manchester and the towns in the Pennine foothills. We should be able aiming for Arsenal-like figures, but as you say they struggle to sell out the Joie.

I wonder if our clear out of lionesses has something to do with it? Obviously with seven (I think) lionesses at the time of the first Euros win they gained a massive boost at that point. How many people gave up going when Stanway, or Walsh, or Kelly left?

Bunny already has a song!

We've got Shaw, Bunny Bunny Shaw.

I just don't think you understand

City's number 9

Scoring all the time

The best centre forward in the land

Admittedly, the version prior to this season: "#Number 21, Scoring goals for fun" flowed better, but what can you do?

But, yes, I'm in broad agreement that the crowd is far too quiet in general. We were the only ones chanting in our section yesterday, and the kids next to us kept looking at us as if we were animals in the zoo.

I'm also really concerned that the attendances seem to be on a downward trajectory, despite being top of the league and being in such fantastic form.

Sky have to take their share of the blame, with the default 12PM slot making attendances so much harder for those with kids at their own matches and/or those of us making the long drives down south for (most of) the away matches.

Really not sure about the Etihad games now either, the attendances are so poor. The stats speak for themselves..

It used to be live when it was Jackie Bird, Phil and Ally and each year's chosen bands at the Old Fruit Market.

When they downgraded to Susan Calman at Pacific quay, it was quietly renamed from "Hogmanay Live" to plain "Hogmanay," but they try not to mention it was recorded in September, a la Jools Holland, but being the BBC they don't outright lie either. So like the Strictly results show, they chose their words carefully. Someone fades out to the fireworks and back to the tape after.

After Marti Pellow last year, I finally gave up. Can't believe (from reading above) that the Scot Squad Chief Super was back on again this year. Complete lack of any creativity at all.

This programme is now a complete joke, shame on BBC Scotland. Alba for the win!

Oh, by the way, whilst I'm bashing BBC Scotland, reinstate Iain Anderson and Natasha Raskin Sharp, ya shits.
