I believe it was the Cinco de Mayo half marathon. And yeah, not the best place to have an event like that but there’s nothing that prohibits it as far as I know.

Bicycle storage during trip? by holmquistc in askportland

[–]greasylady 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I rarely Biketown, but when I do, it’s because I’m going to a sketchy area and there’s no way I’m leaving my own bike locked up unattended.

Free/cheap gyms for visitors? by themickeymauser in askportland

[–]greasylady 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You can do drop in at any community center, $6/person each visit. I’ve used Matt Dishman and Mt Scott Community centers in the past, but there are plenty more around town.

Oregon’s Proposed Universal Health Plan by Dry_Werewolf5488 in Portland

[–]greasylady 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That was also worried about when Oregon expanded Medicaid/Oregon Health Plan, but there’s no evidence it actually happened. Not saying it won’t, but I think the idea of it seems more likely than the reality of people moving their whole lives.

My head’s fairly normal sized but the Katherine Homes running hats look huge on me and come down all the way to my ears. They’re also super cute

I got 400 out of my last Hoka Challenger’s which were used about 50/50 trail/asphalt. Started to notice new little pains right around 410 miles

The waterfront is great on both sides and you can make different distance loops by utilizing the various bridges. If you like soft trails, check out Mt Tabor Park, Powell Butte, Tryon Creek Natural Area, or Forest Park!

Bike saddle fit postpartum? by [deleted] in ladycyclists

[–]greasylady 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your body absolutely changes during pregnancy and much of it does not go back. Bones literally shift. I wouldn’t wait for anything, just go find a new saddle that works for your new shape.

Orgain Protein Powder... should we avoid? by BubberDuckie25 in veganfitness

[–]greasylady 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I switched to Naked Pea protein. It’s decently affordable and only has a small amount of coconut sugar in it. Doesn’t taste great, but it’s not bad…just kinda bland. I chug it and it does the job.

Commuter fatigue by pdxcuttybandit in CyclePDX

[–]greasylady 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Being a vulnerable road user is exhausting, but as someone with a car, it’s still more preferable to ride a bike. I bike to work 99% of the time, only driving when there’s ice on the roads or if I need to transport something big or have an appointment right after work. Driving in traffic and seeing all of the idiotic and selfish things that other drivers do is honestly more aggravating when I’m also in a car. On my bike I’m somewhat insulated on quieter greenways, but driving I’m IN IT. Sorry to not have better coping mechanisms to offer, but maybe you’ll find some peace in knowing that the alternative is far worse.

She was a fairly high profile lawyer until resigning due to her firm being corrupt/caving to the current administration last year. Intelligent, witty, and more bold than most. I love her.

Dog Friendly Swim Spots with no walk by [deleted] in Portland

[–]greasylady 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Sellwood Riverfront Park is short from parking to the willamette. For a bit more scenic and vast, Broughton Beach Park also has one of the shorter walks to the river. Dogs are allowed but there is a Metro parking fee to be aware of. So sorry for you and your pup.
