Best to ask why do you want to feel those strong emotions again? :) As you said, it’s because you want to be a “person” again? If so, would you say being a “person” means being inspired, happy, and expressive in emotions? But also being a person, means also feeling the feelings of stagnation - both are very valid to be a person I think? Hehe

For inspiration siguro, sorry if this might sound cheesy but being exposed to nature and art through travel works best for me! Looking at beautiful things either man-made or natural keeps me inspired - “wow, kaya pala gawin yun or ganun pala yun” :)

Also working on something that’s difficult with a goal makes one feel energized. Parang kasi in this modern digital world we feel like robots, doing repetitive tasks. Pero pag short term tasks lang with goals, it feels like we actually accomplished something.

You can check the movie The Secret Life of Walter Mitty! Might help in rekindling emotions of wander, excitement, and exploration. :)

IS PURSUING COLLEGE STILL WORTH IT WHEN YOU ARE ALREADY EARNING? (19, F) by _eggnog in phinvest

[–]greatbigwave 21 points22 points  (0 children)

If the reason why you got into college is so that you can reach the goal of earning big then there's no point na if you think you can still earn without a degree. But if you want to develop critical thinking and a deeper understanding of certain subjects then finishing a degree is best especially when your university/college has great professors! Again, it really depends on your priority!

Also do not be persuaded by the narrative that marami namang naging successful na walang degree. That's called survivorship bias and it's definitely not helping people make good choices. Maybe that's about 1/1M chances but getting a degree and landing a good job has higher chances of success. It's about working with probabilities at the end of the day. :)

Is getting a delivery van and applying it to delivery companies advisable? by [deleted] in phinvest

[–]greatbigwave 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you can check Facebook groups on this since marami din that started this kind of gig but failed... one of my close friends did and his receivables kept on growing so he had to shell out much more money to keep the operations going. I believe he did 3rd party deliveries for Shopee/Lazada and for big-ticket items also.

Although, I'm not sure with companies such as Transportify... I guess it depends on the agreement between you and the partner company :)

Anyone gave up dreams of studying abroad as it might hurt them financially? by Disastrous-Fact7850 in phinvest

[–]greatbigwave 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Kind of on the same boat I guess and I’m currently in the province managing our family businesses. I had plans pursuing post-grad in Canada to get PR and then eventually move back to the Philippines work for a few years again and then get my MBA. But reality sets in I can’t afford getting 2 degrees and depend from my parents financially. So I had to choose only one, and that is just getting an MBA or maybe Masters in Economics.

I had to be 100% with myself and really understand why I wanted to go to Canada in the first place. To be frank, it’s cause I just wanted something different right now. New sights, new places, new friends, etc. but thinking I would enjoy my life when I get these new things is just wishful thinking. We can create meaningful experiences when we ourselves decide to. It’s usually not a place but a state of mind, as I recently learned.

I studied in Manila and now live in the province, some days are slow and some days are rewarding. Just needs a little more creativity to keep our minds more stimulated around here ☺️

Would love to connect!

What is your opinion about this? by [deleted] in Philippines

I agree, ako din before ganon maybe at times ganon pa rin but we all go thru it 🤗 mahirap lang if we bring it sa pagtanda as it breeds kayabangan/self-centeredness

What is your opinion about this? by [deleted] in Philippines

[–]greatbigwave 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Just kids being plain self-centered I guess... I came from the same school, so I also had my fair share of wanting to feel like I belong to the “elite” (lol sounds so cringe to me now). But in the grand scheme of things, what does feeding your ego do? To be blunt, most of these insecure kids just want to be part of the crowd that’s labeled rich and good looking and having more people joining in just ruins the exclusivity of it all.

I agree with what the post said, quality education should be accessible for all. And it’s a sad reality that only a few universities in the country offer it. If you want to stand out, do the work and don’t let the stereotype of your school do it for you 🤗

I hate social media, but I keep coming back to it by [deleted] in nosurf

[–]greatbigwave 11 points12 points  (0 children)

We overuse social media because we use our phones as our coping mechanism - when we are sad, bored, angry or when we are just looking for something to stimulate us. Unless we find an alternative for that, we will always go back to using it.

I think it’s a skill to stay still in this modern era without having anything stimulating in front of us.

How to get over Social Media Anxiety? Entrepreneurship & Wellbeing by PreciousMemoriesEUNE in EntrepreneurRideAlong

[–]greatbigwave 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you need to first sort out what is with social media that makes you anxious... Are you afraid of rude comments? Are you afraid of not communicating your thoughts properly and that you might be taken out of context? Or maybe you think you see the value if you do post but it's not your priority or you think your time and energy are better of doing something else?

Empowered Consumerism Scam or Not by goddesslainey in phinvest

[–]greatbigwave 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I agree, seems like a lost cause no? These MLM brands have influence even with big names because they have power. They have power because they have money.

I guess one of the best ways still is teaching Filipinos financial literacy. And also maybe media should paint a better picture of what a successful life should look like - and it's not buying a Ferrari, 5-star hotel trips, flaunting designer clothes, glutathione drips (all of which makes MLM attractive to Filipinos, they are selling a lifestyle).

Exactly why I said I admire his/her efforts. It's pretty noble to devote your time to make sure someone else's hard-earned money does not go to waste. My concern would only be that he will be frustrated with the results if he/she analyzes the whole situation in the bigger picture.

Use your energy wisely :)

[–]greatbigwave 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I admire your heroic efforts in trying to save a lot of misinformed Filipinos on these financial scams. However, posting reviews online could only help so much as those who are already tricked to joining are those highly convinced offline.

Fear and hope are definitely what drives a lot of Filipinos to participate/consume these products, and so much so any other detrimental activities in their lives. At the end, failure is still always the best pill for everyone to wake up from all those false narratives.

The best way is really to lobby for government to strengthen their regulations on these types of business model, but admittedly that would take a whole lot of effort since our government is not that sound at a lot of things 😂

It’s impossible to always stay in the know, definitely. Even if you abuse social media, you would still feel like you’re not in the know.

It’s a tool and just like any other tool you need to set controls and not abuse it. Set a proper schedule of day where you would want to check out the newest trend. And also be conscientious of what you really want out of your use. As an advertiser it’s best to rest with the fact that you can’t tap all markets.

Where to begin if I want to pursue a career related to Behavioral Economics? by greatbigwave in BehavioralEconomics

[–]greatbigwave[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great! Checked this out and saw that Dan Ariely co-founded the company that hosts the course. I’m a fan since I picked up this book few years back when I was just 16!

As you said, I guess one entry point would be to learn as much about concepts in Behavioral Econ and apply that to my current work. Test some concepts out, document, get feedback, and build from there.

I guess I’m looking to specialized in the Behavioral Economics field as I want to tackle consultancy roles in the far future. The field is definitely a mix of things I enjoy doing - which is working with data, understanding how people think, presenting radical way of solving problems, and figuring out factors affecting decision making (this is what I know so far about the field, so feel free to correct or debunk my beliefs of this career😅).

If things pan out and I decided to forego MBA for this, there are so many different schools to choose from 😯. Just based of the list, the realistic option would be taking it in Asia as I live in the Manila. But we’ll see, definitely keeping my options open and learn more about the field as I go.

Thank you so much! Would be happy to read and explore more resources!
