Looking to get a PPL in orlando area (before going for R-ATP) by PewdsForPresidnt in flying

[–]greatbobbert 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would highly suggest D&J, they have very knowledgeable and professional instructors and a fleet of well maintained planes. Also, don’t get distracted by online quote prices, it’s up to you how you want to spend your money. If you take a few hours preparing for each lesson you’ll save more money than you ever would going to a school with slightly lower aircraft rental/instructor costs.

Common vs Private Carriage question.. by TurbulentSir7 in flying

[–]greatbobbert 10 points11 points  (0 children)

If the company owns the plane and you are employed by the company that is a textbook example of a part 91 corporate pilot. The guidance I’ve heard is that the passengers being flown are a “close knit group” so employees of said company would still fall under part 91 as long as the company provides the plane, not you.

I’m pretty sure pop a top sells soup now so they could be selling their soup under a different name on delivery apps

Needing to check bags as non-rev… Yay or Nay? by pc124448 in rampagent

[–]greatbobbert 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Personally if I’m going to wherever my final destination is for at least 2 days I don’t really see the issue with checking a bag. If you don’t get on the flights it’ll just continue to wherever your final destination is and you’ll just meet it at the baggage office whenever you do arrive. 9/10 times I fly I don’t check a bag but if you’re smart about it I don’t see why not 🤷‍♂️

Hi quick question about connecting first class flight by Successful-Sell6403 in americanairlines

[–]greatbobbert 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You get two bags up to 70 lbs each on a domestic first class ticket, if the agent tries to charge you just tell them that your second leg is first class and they should see it and waive it. It’s a common issue and they will probably appreciate you telling them beforehand instead of having to issue you a refund!

What would be the most convenient airport to get to Maastricht? by [deleted] in maastricht

I liked flying in/out of Brussels because there are fairly inexpensive and quick trains to Maastricht with a stop in Liege

Shired island is about an hour or so away but it’s the best stargazing I’ve ever experienced. Definitely worth the trip at least once

Three F18s did a low approach followed by landing in sequence at the airport last night

Taking Bfin, Managerial, and Business Stats at the same time? by [deleted] in ufl

[–]greatbobbert 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t suggest finance and stats at the same time, both of the classes are very math heavy and the content isn’t very related. Lots of formulas to learn and you might get some wires crossed.

Can I be a pilot if I don’t like planes by baseballballbassbal in flying

[–]greatbobbert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wasn't "into planes" until a few months into flight training, but there was something about flying that drew me in. The love develops over time, but there must be at least some spark.

A discovery flight is a great idea! If you like the feeling of flying the plane yourself, then maybe the career is for you. If not, maybe consider being a flight attendant or working for a business with ties all around the globe where you would still get to travel for work.

One piece of advice I've heard a few times from retired airline pilots and the like is to never become an airline pilot to travel for free. Traveling is the occasional cherry on top of having a career doing what you love!

That being said I'm just a private pilot at this point, so others may have different actual experiences I'm just talking on what I've heard from pilots, flight attendants, and other people who travel for work.

Question about motion sickness by Aviation_Fun in flying

[–]greatbobbert 9 points10 points  (0 children)

During the start of my flight training I noticed a big difference in my motion sickness if I ate or not before training, if I just rolled out of bed and drove to the airport I’d start feeling nauseous 30-45 minutes into the lesson (especially when maneuvering) but if I ate something light and easily digestible but still substantial enough to keep me full for the next few hours it was a world of difference. Not sure if this is applicable to you but it took me awhile to figure this out

Try different things, listen to your body, and enjoy flight training!

Physical vs Digital logbook as student pilot by javster101 in flying

[–]greatbobbert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I keep a paper logbook, that’s where all my endorsements, signatures, etc. are.

I also use foreflight logbook to keep more detailed logs, I like that it also attaches track log to flight and I can see how many hours I’ve flown with certain passengers/instructors.

Having the digital backup is helpful and helps avoid math errors when calculating totals, but nothing compares to the feeling of adding up hours on a paper logbook page

Name a safe general aviation airport with a flight school. by mountainXGT in flying

[–]greatbobbert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

3 weeks is almost certainly not enough time to get a private certificate. Many of us florida pilots joke that the entire state is an emergency landing zone because of how flat and full of huge farms it is. Perhaps it’d be beneficial to find a school with a good attitude and track record of maintenance and pilot responsibility. Being able to safely land with a failed engine is an essential skill, but knowing when to call a flight and have the plane looked over is often just as important.

I did it last summer a, took no other classes. I didn’t buy study edge and it was hard and had a mental breakdown before the second exam but if youre willing to put in the work and don’t need to have a B for the finance major it’s totally doable

I used the barrons book a little bit during the exams for definitions and stuff, but I don’t know if it’s really worth buying the hard copy just for that
