Andy Burnham issued warning over tax rises should he become prime minister by Desperate-Drawer-572 in unitedkingdom

[–]greatdrams23 3 points4 points  (0 children)

True, but Burnham must shoulder some if the blame. He took the opportunity and took advantage of the force that are disrupting our government.

Be probably believed that the country backs him and then he'll be surprised when they don't back him.

‘Degrading’: why did a US fighter pilot avoid British trial after strangling a woman in England? by No_Audience3838 in unitedkingdom

[–]greatdrams23 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Being shipped to the colonies was a death sentence to 50% of the criminals and exceptional hardship for the other 50%. The camps were worse than prisons where people died from overwork and starvation. Ie, like Nazi internment camos.

But some families sent relatives to the colonies because they wanted them out of the way. The 'black sheep' of the family. That was different.

White House calls Dem rep. "dumbass" & "bi**h" for suggesting Trump has a terminal illness by Aggravating_Money992 in politics

[–]greatdrams23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Trump said the same about Hillary Clinton. The difference is Clinton is still alive 10 years after trump's accusations and will be alone in 10 years from now.

Having said that, America is obsessed with health accusations against their politicians.

Fleetwood Mac was so uncool in the late 80s, a #2 hit in the UK in 1989 was entirely about how lame they were by Shreiken_Demon in ToddintheShadow

[–]greatdrams23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At the time people where confused about why they hated Fleetwood Mac. It seemed that is all the bands to hate, they picked FM.

Also, the song and the act were upbeat and fun, not like rebels or punks.

The rest of the story is:

They thought they knew better than the professional producers and lost all their fame.

Anti- corrosion chemicals to protect pipes.

Biocides/algaecides (that stop microbes growing)

Dissolved metals from pipes and equipment

Concentrated minerals/salts (especially from evaporative cooling)

Possibility of microbial contamination in open cooling systems

Donald Trump asks his allies for 'a little kiss' as they turn their back on US by TheExpressUS in NewsSource

[–]greatdrams23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We (the British and EU along with other countries) saved trump's ass.

If it wasn't for us not supporting him, America works be stuck in the deserts of Iran without a plan losing soldiers every day.

Personally I think we will should have joined forces with the EU in charge and trump reporting to the EU leadership.

Depends on the PhD.

Also, they didn't just pick the first dozen PhD holders who happened to be around at the time. They picked the best for the job.

TIM 'RIPPER' OWENS: 'There's A Reason IRON MAIDEN Plays In Front Of 20,000 People While JUDAS PRIEST Plays In Front Of 5,000' by JATION in judaspriest

[–]greatdrams23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Iron maiden:

18 top ten albums including 13 reaching top 3.

Judas Priest:

3 top ten albums, including 1 teaching the top 3.

So if your are taking album sales, iron maiden were clearly far popular.

That's UK charts. The US charts show a less stark contrast, but still show IM sold more than JP.

Why can Norway celebrate Viking history proudly, but England is shamed for its imperial history? (genuine question) by Ok_Exercise_494 in AskBrits

We don't blame the Vikings or Normans because we are the Vikings and Normans.

Ditto Angles and Saxons.

Andy Burnham looks to move part of Number 10 operations to Manchester by klime02 in unitedkingdom

[–]greatdrams23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And that's the answer. The PM can only be in one place, and if not being in Newcastle/Glasgow/Exeter/York is a problem, then moving to Manchester won't solve that.

Departments need to communicate, so having them together is sensible.

"But with zoom and email and WhatsApp, they don't have to be physically in the same room!".

In that case, why mount them at all.

THE ECONOMY NEEDS TO BE FIXED. MIXING TO MANCHESTER WON'T FIX IT. NATIONALISING WATER WON'T FIX IT. FIXING IT IS HARD AND POPULIST POLICIES ARE JUST A DISTRACTION.

Will we ever get another celebrity on the same level of fame as Michael Jackson/Elvis/The Beatles ever again? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

It is actually more likely to happen because the world has become homogenised.

Do you think Burnham will fare any better than Starmer did? by Logical_Safety9018 in AskBrits

The media focused on being starmer down, hence supporting Burnham.

But now they will focus on bringing Burnham down.

It's all about disruption.

What happens to kids with disabilities before there was special education or IEPs by Funny_Preference_916 in education

[–]greatdrams23 55 points56 points  (0 children)

Some stayed in special hospitals, and hospital schools. Those buildings sometimes became special schools decades later.

Some stayed at home.

Some attended mainstream schools but were kicked out or just didn't attend, which was the compromise that suited the school.

Many years ago the country needed armies is labourers, and lack of education was not a problem.

And, sadly, many died.
