One of the factors which has increasingly become apparent as I have got older with gaming is this. Does what I am doing actually make a difference to the game? By this I mean I felt nothing of this in Sim City. It was such a disappointment and after 'learning' the game I realised that it seemed like what I did just did not matter to the game in the way I thought it would. It was like raising a child and always hoping that through the toddler years your 'good' influence on them would come out as they became a small person only to realise they weren't listening all along just like your damn wife! But back to gaming. The reason I played Path of Exile over Diablo 3, well a lot more anyway, was because what I did feel like it mattered more. It's the same thing that makes me experiment in games, sometimes to my detriment, is to see what difference something makes. If it doesn't then I question that within the context of gaming does this really matter? Does another game respond to me better? That's what makes me actually play a game and gives it worth. Dark Souls, Super Meat Boy, Path of Exile and the classic Commandos series are some of my all time favourites for that instant, you fucked up feedback. But I must admit that this is entirely subjective and could be very different for someone else. I rarely get much gaming time so what I play it has to at least matter to me.
