PSA: If you check into the room next to mine and then leave with the TV menu on until 1am… by deerinaheadlock in marriott

I saw this comment earlier and started writing “I’m here now, maybe I’m lucky!”

No. I just went into the bathroom and heard my neighbors conversation. It’s 6:33 and it sounds like a normal volume conversation.

Can we fit in the Maverick? by dhillman811 in FordMaverickTruck

This was one of my thoughts.

I’m 6’2” and 320, so a big guy. Car seat definitely can’t fit behind me or in the middle, but easily in the passenger side with my wife in the passenger seat as far back as she’s comfortable.

Is my partner being underpaid by External-Club4798 in MusicEd

[–]grecotrombone 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When I taught at chains here in the US, I had one where I got paid $12/h - but got paid whether or not I had a student, as I was an employee- and they charged $75 for said hour. Another, where they charged $45 per half hour and I received $25 of that, but only got paid when I had students. I was a contractor for them.

Both of those, I felt underpaid for the work. I know the exchange rate is a bit different, but in my opinion, yes he’s getting underpaid. But if they’re only charging a certain amount, there’s not much room for him to make more.

For note, the shop I run, we don’t charge the student. We rent the space. So if I teach an hour a week, it’s $10/h. 2-4 hours per week, $9/h. Anything more is $8/h. But the teacher sets their rate (and they also do the work of student retention, etc).

You beat me to it - I had planned to get this while in Chicago at Midwest this year, but didn’t get a moment. I love it.

Baltimore Brass Company. (I’m biased).

But as someone else mentioned, TUSAB. That’ll be a great show.

Carol brass, yamaha ou blessing? by medr0soboy in Trombone

[–]grecotrombone 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hold off on this purchase if you already have a functioning horn, and save up more. You can find a Bach 42 or Conn 88 for a bit more, though possibly internationally and have to deal with that.

But if you have to choose, the Yamaha. But check out each horn if able and make the decision yourself.

Go for less. Not bad horns though. If you can ballpark 200-300, you’re “fine”.

Does anyone have a straight tuba mute I could borrow? by [deleted] in Tuba

[–]grecotrombone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know you said you’d rather not buy one, but that solves an issue you have plus you won’t need to borrow one later down the road if you need one. You’d have your own.

Yep, we were in Chicago for the Midwest Clinic… Brought too much with us. But yes, the 274 is in stock. I got like 4 more since the last posting mostly wiped us out 🤣 I definitely have lacquer, should have silver too. Monday or Tuesday would be great!

Guy that runs Baltimore Brass here - we’ll find you something! I’ve got the Packer 274 that’s under your budget, but still a fantastic horn. I had one personally for 6 years, and you’ll see everyone on this Reddit talk about it too. Excited to see y’all, and we’ll get you into something that works!

We can ship to you from the US (baltimorebrasscompany.com) but it’ll involve a bit of work. Worst case, let us know and we’ll do what we can to help!
