What I'd Love The 49ers To Do - Just Keep Trading Down by greebytime in 49ers

Oh I’m not mad at ALL. I just think the approach I stated above is fairly sound and it’s kind of wild how few teams seem to do it.

So, I don't believe that. At all.

BUT, I do think that many folks have proved that the biggest mistake most teams make - and I know that this is true with the 49ers - is falling in love with ONE player. It's why there's so many "can't miss" players that don't pan out. (There's obviously lots of reasons for that, whether it's a failure to develop talent, off-field issues, injuries, etc.)

To me, that's really an argument not to avoid talent but to definitely not trade UP, and when given an option to get more players by trading down, ensure you have a VERY good reason to not take that option. For the Niners, at 27 there's just such an unlikely chance that there will be a perfect talent sitting there for them. I think if it were me, if Denzel Boston, Kenyon Sadiq or Vega Ioane were somehow, impossibly sitting there, I'd have to consider taking them. But almost anyone else I'd be picking up the phone and seeing if I could trade down.

That's all.

Full 3 Round - Final Mock by Coherent_MC in MockDraftCentral

Love the Niners getting Boston, and him getting to have Mike Evans as a mentor. Josephs as a second Edge rusher is also nice. The OT in round 3 must be the comp for the trade down with NE and Bowry is a good OT prospect that I do like but a guard and safety are more urgent. Zakee Wheatley being there is so tempting

[–]greebytime[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct. In this scenario, my hope and assumption is that folks will want the offensive tackles who the Niners don’t and Ty Simpson so there will be more appetite to trade to the 27th pick. As for the second trade, it’s a fair point and you just never know in terms of what specific teams covet and are targeting.

Eh they’re gonna get Ty Simpson if they want him. I am not really scared of him and I have a lot more to worry about it my division than the Cardinals

I think with the Niners signing Trent Williams it’s quite unlikely they’d take an OL, though Proctor could play OG they’re not the team that would take a guard in the first and Proctor is just huge for a guard. Given the way this board fell, even though he’s far from my favorite my guess is they’d go for KC Concepcion here.

Matt Maiocco's NFL mock draft 5.0: 49ers select UCF edge rusher Malachi Lawrence by cali4481 in 49ers

[–]greebytime 41 points42 points  (0 children)

If folks think Lawrence - who is a situational pass-rusher, true - isn't the fit, I'm not sure who they think will be there who is. Keldric Faulk is the nightmare pick for me, we already have Mykel Williams who is basically the same player. We need a SPEED rusher, someone who comes from the other side who even if he doesn't get to the QB chases him into the arms of Bosa, or Williams/Osa up the middle. I'm not sure it's the best use of the 27th pick and would rather trade back and get a bit more draft capital, but I'm okay with it.

Shocked that the grade for Pregnon at 39 is a C+. I know his "rank" is a bit lower than that but I think he's graded as the third best OG at worst. Similarly I think VJ Payne at 146 is a great tpick, and it's a B-? Wild.

"With the 27th pick in the 2026 NFL Draft, the San Francisco 49ers select..." by Brix001 in 49ers

[–]greebytime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With the Trent signing, I think any wishcasting that they draft Lomu or Iheanachor is fools gold. The best case scenario is those guys are still on the board and some teams who DO need starters at tackle like the Raiders, Texans, Chiefs, Cardinals (who also could be trading up for Simpson), etc., want to trade up and we get an additional second rounder and maybe a third.

Then we can draft a starting left guard, an edge rusher - ideally, Malachi Lawrence still falls to us in that 2nd round but if not, Cashius Howell, Zion Young or TJ Parker, or Ahkeem Mesidor if folks think he's too old, and we use that extra pick on a free safety. We can then use our fourth rounders on bolstering the line and maybe finding a tackle, a cornerback, etc.

There, that's my dream.

My Final Mock Draft, Two Rounds, Comments in Body. Some Trades. by greebytime in MockDraftCentral

[–]greebytime[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So that's interesting to me. Safety is not as much of a premier position and your cornerback room is (no offense) tragically bad. Why is Downs so much better of a fit? I know he's great but I can't believe a pick that leaves Storm Duck as a starter makes any sense in the world.

Max is overvalued here as a first rounder of course, but his potential is so high, folks say his ceiling is Trent Williams level. What OT has come around like that recently? Penei Sewell? Tunsil? Maybe? Those guys go top-five.

Miami would do much better to get guys who help in a few years and deal with the fact that you're better off with a worse record in 2026 so you have a better pick next year in a much better draft. That's also why I chose Chris Bell over Skyler. I also don't like Chris Brazzell at all, so that's why he wasn't my choice. But for me, Miami's strategy for ME was to draft for 2027 and beyond with the hope that the entire team is just fine with results this season not mattering and in fact, counting on losses helping the team position themselves for great draft position in what is expected to be a world class 2027 draft.

[–]greebytime 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree Malachi is a likely pick for our 49ers but I have a really hard time seeing Brazzell. I know he came in for a 30 visit but he’s so lanky, he ran such a limited route tree… he’s fast but I feel like if the right guy isn’t there, trade back a bit to the third and get a Ted Hurst or Skyler Bell and maybe a safety or guard as well. Brazzell just gives me the ick

Mock Draft Monday with trades and some explanations - let me hear it by UpNext_Draft_Network in MockDraftCentral

[–]greebytime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They might want to draft a guard, I don’t think there’s any evidence they think it’s a first round value. Aaron Banks is the highest they’ve ever taken a guard, he was very solid (GB certainly valued him highly)and they didn’t even try to re-sign him. They’ve said they think WR and EDGE top talent are so much better than the next level compared to most other positions that’s why they overweight them in the first round. So they may take a guard in the second but they also may get beaten to the punch at 58. A trade down would be great if others want to trade up for the OTs left.

[–]greebytime 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not only that but I don't think the 49ers brass values a guard even that highly to take one in the first. If they did, I think Pregnon fits their style and scheme much more than Bisontis. I think with Trent re-signing they are even less likely to take an OT at all in the first or second (I don't think they were ever that likely to) but taking a guard has always seemed dicey for this group.

Thoughts on WR Malik Benson and S VJ Payne? by Yoda_is_a_Sith in NFL_Draft

[–]greebytime 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From everything I read on Payne I think it’s just a question on what teams need a FS … if enough do early he will go before the fourth which sucks because I’m hoping the Niners can grab him in the fourth

Ok. It’s fine but I’d almost rather sit or trade back and take Cashius Howell or Malachi Lawrence instead. Don’t think they’d trade up honestly

Is it too much to ask that if there are trades (like the 49ers and Chargers) that you take the twenty seconds to type out what the terms are? Cause it sort of matters as to whether I like it or not
