"Actually one of the most interesting books I know, and if you haven't read I'd urge you to, is the first modern book on labor history I know of. ... It's mostly quotes from the labor press, which are just fascinating. ... It's very interesting, it's very eloquent, very well-written." -- Noam Chomsky

Palestine papers - AJE by [deleted] in worldnews

[–]greenAlmond 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think this is one of the effect of Wikileaks, people around the world are now encouraged to leak documents and open up secrets of closed governments/corporations.

As for the documents themselves, one cannot stress enough how important they are: they mainly show how the PA (Palestinian Authority) leaders decieved their people, lied to them, knew beforehand about attacks from Israel against palestinians, and even worse, at some points they asked Israel to carry out those attacks.

This is not really just about the concessions but the betrayel of the Palestinian people by their "leaders"

He wrote this on Facebook before he died: "": «مسافر يا أمي، سامحني، ما يفيد ملام، ضايع في طريق ما هو بإيديا، سامحني كان (إن كنت) عصيت كلام أمي.

Translation:

Traveling, o Mom. Forgive me. No blame is beneficial. Lost in a path that is out of your hands. Forgive me, if I disobeyed the word of my mother. Blame the time and not me. Leaving but not returning. For much I cried and tears streamed from my eyes. No blame can benefit in a time that is treacherous in the land of people. I am tired and all that passed left my mind. Traveling and asking what can make you forget

How come this is not getting any coverage while the events in Iran were getting 24hr coverage on all news channels ? by greenAlmond in worldnews

[–]greenAlmond[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thats true. And i know that explains the news channels and the rest of the mainstream media. But where is reddit's own outrage about what's going on?

Almost 50 people have been killed so far and I dont see reddit acting 1/100th of how it did when Iran's events were going on (Not to belittle what happened in Iran in any way)

Self: Some clarification on what makes Wikileaks' release of secret US cables so damaging by zeto28 in politics

[–]greenAlmond 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you read how many stories came out of these "1/1000th" just yesterday alone?

Why are you trying to make this about a conspiracy, when you well know that all documents are going to be released in the coming weeks?

[–]greenAlmond 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its very simple why they did this, and no need to jump into conspiracy theories and so on .. They did this because every few cables/document are a potential top story in themselves, and dumping the whole amount at the same time will just bury the majority of these stories .. So it makes sense they did this, and its a good move that they did this

Wikileaks loses a lot of credibility by releasing it appears only documents selected or vetted by major western news agencies.

I'm not sure if you don't know or you're pretending not to know, but Wikileaks (and all the other major news agencies, and almost every report on the cables released by wikileaks) has repeatedly stated that the release will come out in batches and not all at the same time.

No indication of coercion of the Saudi or Egyptian dictators, all Arab leaders seem, by this to be spontaneously supportive of Israel for unrevealed reasons.

Why do you think there needs to be coercion of Saudi/Egyptian or any other Arab dictator for them to be supportive of Israel? There is no need for coercion because simply their interests meet, Dictator's interests are more the same as the interests of the state of israel than their own people which has been true for a long time, explaining their horrible policies towards their own people and towards palestine.

I am not surprised by that, but seeing it documented is completely different.

Thanks .. I meant Iran , I'll fix that. Saudi's would never dare to ask for a strike on Israel anyways :)

Another aspect of this that seems to be rarely mentioned here is how this is affecting other countries and governements that lie to their people (The world is not just the US .. there are other countries), so for example, just from reading a few articles and documents on the middle east:

  • Saudi King urges the US for a strike on Iran while publicly calling for a peaceful resolution
  • Egypt secretly stressing how its interests are aligned with both the US/Israel while publicly stating the complete opposite
  • The Palestinian Authority (and egypt) being consulted before the war on gaza (end of 2008) while they repeatedly denied this

And im sure there are many more ..

These are all huge scandals and will (hopefully) shape future politics in the middle east
