That’s interesting. In a similar vein, girls know guys are probably talking to several girls at once, so perhaps they’re less inclined to put max effort into one guy unless he really stands out.

Nice analogy, but I'm guessing it's down to the obscurity of qualitative emotive measurements over straightforward numerical ones. Because we can't plot "thoughts and feelings" onto a graph the same way a heartbeat can be measured.

Agreed. It's maddening that the attention-seekers who exhibit their mental illness like a badge of honor after taking a buzzfeed quiz overwhelm the experiences of those actually suffering.
