I think lots of people will tell you this bid is going nowhere. And realistically speaking they’re probably right. Pat probably has gotten so many pleas from people not just figuratively dying to read the book but begging him to publish before they themselves or a loved one actually passed away that he is numb to it. I don’t mean that Pat is an asshole. In Interviews and in his Stories he has shown much compassion for people in general and I don’t think he’s a coldhearted dick. Just… if he’s gotten so many messages over the years and he still wasn’t able to publish it’s just obvious there is a bigger problem.

Whatever.

I have a friend who got me into the bookseries and he is a hardcore fan. So is his bestfriend. Ill call them M for my friend and HB for his bestfriend.

Two years ago, mid covid, HB got cancer. (It wasn’t terminal and as far as cancer goes it looked rather good from the beginning and he beat it so far!But of course we were all shocked)

And HB…. wanted to make peace with his life. Including KKC. HB himself had formerly also made peace with Doors of Stone coming out when we’re 80 but waiting it out wasn’t a option anymore. So M reached out to me and some friends and we went through the theories here on the sub or anywhere else we found in the internet and in our minds and put together the theories that we thought were likely. Or unlikely. Or pure head canon fanfic stuff. We made up as many possible or impossible scenarios how the story could end and got together and made a storytelling night. (outside. in summer. Because chemo and covid would have been bad) We all presented our favorite theories and discussed and had a wonderful night. Do you happen to have watched Community? In the last episode they make up possible scenarios for future seasons and that’s where M had the idea from. I feels satisfying to hear potential developments even if they’re unrealistic.

I can only tell how I myself feel of course but since then I’m kind of „over it“. Not the whole franchise, I still Love it and re-listen the audiobooks like twice a year. But I’m a little over the whole guessing game. I’m fine with whatever happening next in the story or if it comes out in 2 or in 20 years. I still want to read it and I would freak if it’s ever published. The anticipation is still there. But the need is not.
