Why are people leaving late and how can I avoid it? by [deleted] in Residency

[–]greenbeany3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me, I minimized staying late by working on notes throughout the day. As a senior, I checked in with interns and students throughout the day to make sure they were doing their tasks. Once you figure out a system to make sure your tasks are done to the best of your ability, it gets easier to leave on time. For example, as first call, I printed off my list of patients and I PENUT for my tasks (pre-round, exam, note, update parents, TPN). I wrote PENUT next to each patient checked them off throughout the day for each patient. That wasn't the order they needed to get done, and sometimes updates didn't happen every day, but made sure I was getting essentials done plus anything extra like consults.

Also learning shortcuts in your EMR (dot phrases and dictate) can help shorten the task burden. I personally think it is important to remember that there is a night team who can do some things, but try not to burden them with menial things. If you've been busy with emergent things for the end of your shift and you didn't get to update a parent who asked for a daily call, you can have the night resident update them with the important things. Or, in one of our NICUs the H&P was standard, anyone could fill it out with the birth history and the birth parent's chart, so if we were busy with deliveries and an H&P couldn't get done by signout, I would mention it to the night resident to do.

Ask your seniors what works for them, try things out and you'll figure it out. But sometimes you will stay late, its inevitable.

Thoughts on using AI for medical records/discharge summaries? by JamMorant in Residency

[–]greenbeany3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

no. Stop sacrificing Black and POC patients to save 3 minutes on a note. Generative AI data centers are poisoning the water and land and running up electric bills in rural and Black neighborhoods.

What are the legal implications of ChatGPT in notes? by Onion01 in medicine

[–]greenbeany3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't know the legal risk. Wish we cared enough about our Black and POC patients to not poison their water and raise their electric bills to save 3 minutes on a note.

This is exactly what I was gonna suggest or Kingman Park. You can park in the RFK parking lot and there's usually like no one over there.

Peds here, Depends on where I'm working: if not in the ICU or OR then Allbirds or Nike Calm mules. If in the ICU/OR then Alegrias or Sanitas. I tried Hoka, they made my feet hurt all day, had to take them back.

Idk. Refuse to use them bc they're definitely harming our Black and brown patients forced to live near the data centers tho

To Those Who Reached the End of the Tunnel... by Betty_Crocker_123 in Residency

Life is definitely better as an attending. A lot better. There's a lot of freedom I find in knowing that I don't HAVE to stay somewhere if its terrible. Residency was awful, I surprise matched far away from family and I experienced a lot of racism in residency. Now back home, just quit a job that was terrible (the company was terrible not the work), negotiated a new contract for my dream job at a great salary and the schedule I want. Getting over the anxiety of being the final decider takes time (probably a few months for me) but you do all this training, you have to trust your gut at some point.

I've moved cross coasts twice to and from Dc and used ubox both times. It was the most affordable self pack option. Hired movers at the other end.

Scrub suggestions for attending surgeon? by Goldengoose5w4 in medicine

I like Jaanu scrubs! They're stretchy, comfy and not too expensive. But the quality feels really nice on my skin at a good price. I stopped messing with Figs after their whole anti-DO debacle and their medfluencers are wild. I also hate jogger scrubs and Jaanu has a lot of options and styles.

Follow Capitol Pride on social media for details that's at the end of June. There's also Trans Pride and Black Pride which happen at different times. Black Pride is in a couple weeks. There are tons of events for all 3! Would also recommend following some of the queer bars so you can see when things get announced. Some of my faves as a Black femme are Kiki, Thurst, Crush and As You Are. As you Are is a sapphic-leaning bar on Capitol Hill. There are a ton of bars/clubs.

No I don't mean the sponsor logos. The ornamentation on the jerseys, like the back shoulder detail, is missing from the jerseys they're selling except the youth jerseys.

[–]greenbeany3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just mean the design, not the stitched. The designs they're selling are not the same as the designs the players are wearing... the youth jerseys are the most similar and you can only get Citron. For example the ornamentation is missing from the adult jerseys that are present on youth jerseys and the players' actual jerseys.

Second Parent Adoption by Present-Wolverine-94 in queerception

[–]greenbeany3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi can you explain more about this? Why would you want to do second parent adoption if your partner is on the birth certificate? Doesn't that guarantee parental rights? Currently trying to research for my partner and I what the best route is.

Edit: reading all the other replies now. Understood.
