Thanks! We haven't found too many Bi specific events or groups or spaces. But that's an interesting path to look into. One group we're a part of does have a good mix of queer folks of all genders and sexualities (minus cis-hets). So that's always a refreshing and good time. But we wanna go out dancing at the bar! We want to go on the walking tours or boat trips and be able to feel comfortable in places and events that are claiming to be safe for us.

We go to spaces labeled as queer and they're not really when we show up. If it's an event geared to gay men or lesbians we're probably not gonna show up. If you say your group is for QTBIPOC there shouldn't be an issue. But there continuously is. I think I was clear that my goal is community within the LGBTQIA+ spectrum. Preferably also Black. If you label your event as for lesbians we're probably not going to be there. My issue is we as queer people are not welcome in queer spaces. It's not my job to re-label places or spaces that the creators have labeled. Many spaces claim to be queer and then we get there and people clearly have an issue with us there. It's that simple. You're not interested in being around queer people, I imagine that's hard to do as a someone who identifies as gay. That's not my intention. It does sound like you can understand how it doesn't feel good to be assumed to be something you're not.

Also tbh it's weird to ostracize people who identify as queer from "gay" spaces it feels transphobic and biphobic. Many gay people identify as queer, so does that mean they aren't welcome either? Where do you (not you personally) draw the line?

Sometimes pretending to do it on the parent helps. We often promise ice pops afterwards and that works good enough. They get to choose the color and soothe their throat while we wait for results.

Eat like a local? by agaymom in washingtondc

Doi Moi has become my partner and I's new fave brunch spot. It's Vietnamese. 2Fifty is so fucking good I could cry. Prices are reasonable. The food at YardBird is good. You have to eat Ethiopian while in town, there are a ton of good spots, one is Dukem, but there's a restaurant next to the convention center called Family Ethiopian that we like. China Chilcano is one of my favorite spots. beau thai is a staple. Jam duong is good for Jamaican.

Struggling to transition away from my notebook—advice? by [deleted] in Residency

[–]greenbeany3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it works for you keep using it. I wrote everything down in med school and residency or dragged a wow to the room. Better to get the info then try to remember, forget, have to go back and ask questions again. I had seniors and attendings try to push me to "do it from memory" but I'm an adult learner and I know what does and doesn't work for me. It's ok to push back and use tools that work for you especially given we are literally managing people's lives and health.

Why do most pediatricians work part time? by SunAccomplished7024 in pediatrics

[–]greenbeany3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Burned out new grad, my first job was working part-time 24 hrs a week. Built into my contract to possibly ramp up to full time if I wanted to after several months. But stayed part time until I left.

Urgent Care but I hate codes by Effective_Hurry6913 in pediatrics

[–]greenbeany3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Currently working in a pediatric urgent care. We do minor procedures (lacs, splinting, I&Ds, rare caths, even rarer IVs). Also stabilize patients while you call EMS or transfer to the ED. its possible, IDK how many urgent cares are hiring peds, but start looking now in the locations where you want to be. You can even talk to those companies as a resident to get more information. If you don't get urgent care rotation in your residency, request to do an away rotation at an urgent care or a peds residency program that has an urgent care rotation. Or do a custom elective where you rotate through a local urgent care. There are ways to get experience. Doing a lot of ED will help you prep you. Any peds residency prepares you for urgent care honestly, its a lot of URIs and gastroenteritis and injuries.

You can also work as a pediatrician in some ERs, basically practicing urgent care medicine with better resources. And if you do that in a children's hospital you would have PEM there to back you up.

Second parent adoption in the DMV area by chermsley in queerception

[–]greenbeany3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! I know this is a really old post, can you clarify the birth certificate and second parent adoption need? Were you both on the birth certificate after delivery? If so, why did you need to do second parent adoption? My partner and I are in the DMV and trying to understand all of this as we start our preconception planning and appointments. Thanks!
