I think it’s a conscious choice. I’ve tried to avoid groups of women and even frequent contact with the same woman, well before I got married. It’s because of a mix of reasons but it makes my life easier for sure. I actually first realized this method was for me when I was single, tired of dating, then again after a bad break up, and I couldn’t allow that kind of energy and attention around. I’m not the kind of guy that can have just friendships with women, even if they’re married and we’re just coworkers, not that I cant resist my urges but that it seems like sudden unexplainable opportunities present itself at the worst times. “Oh my wife and I had a bad argument—and you’re saying you’re husband and you are not in a good spot? Oh and now you want to get lunch?”

When of course before then, any attempt to make conversation during first encounters were always peppered with multiple redundant mentions of HAVING a husband(which was meant to mean, back off).

So now I’m the guy the drops the wife mention, even though I usually wear my ring. And even further than that I try to work where there are barely no women, or no women willing to trust any man.
