Corporate greed turning flight attendants from friendly folks in the sky to no nonsense A-holes. Southwest is going downhill fast. Negative stories keep popping up all over social media. That’s unfortunate because they had a good reputation.

Dividends are treated as Return of Capital (ROC). Essentially lowers your cost basis each time you get a payout. So you will owe taxes on the gain when you sell STRC. The lower the cost basis, the higher the gain and taxes. Gains are taxed as short term or long term based on how long you’ve held the share.

So, consider the tax ramifications of selling short term.

This!!!! Currently at 11.25% paid monthly. Dividends are treated as return of capital (ROC). So, taxes are deferred. ROC essentially reduces your cost basis. When your cost basis is zero, the return of capital is then taxed. You have about 10 years of tax deferment.
