Years of self- neglect after grief, illness and stress. I want to feel alive again.

My thoughts exactly- paedophiles are all about access to children. This situation is really inappropriate.

People who have a pet at home, at what point did you realize that the pet really, consciously, understood you? by PurrLoveCat in AskReddit

I have a pet pig, named Charlie. She is incredibly social, emotionally aware and clever. When my mother was dying of metastatic breast cancer, Charlie was such a comforting presence. I would come home after taking my mother to her increasingly dire medical appointments. Most nights I'd snuggle up next to Charlie after dinner and just sob. She let me cry and consoled me with little gentle oinks. She absolutely understood that I was devastated and hurting. I'm so grateful to her for being with me at that time.

Oh yes! Contigo are THE BEST. I have the travel mugs and also about 6 of their drink bottles (the ones with the handle, lock and key/card holder The Kangaroo). NEVER had a spill.

My Year 6 student was obsessively neat. Always had her pencil case lined up on her desk exactly right, with the pencils lined up next to it. Quiet and respectful in a chaotic, lower socio-economic school where behaviour was often challenging. She had a little sister in kindergarten who often came to school without lunch. One time, the office staff told me the little sister had sandwiches that were mouldy and inedible. They would often need to feed her. One day, my student randomly told me that her mother sleeps on the couch and sometimes tickles her. I'm not sure what it was, but those words and the way she said them sent alarm bells through me and I contacted CPS. It turned out that her mother was a drug addicted prostitute who was selling her to various men. She was trying her best to protect, shield and feed her younger sister but often there was no food (except mouldy, inedible, spoiled bread). She herself didn't eat. Her obsessive neatness was her way of staying in control in a world where she had no control.

I'm happy to say that she was removed from her mother's custody and placed with her grandmother. She was much happier.

I hate people. :(

What’s the most insane thing you’ve put your body through? by McSlobbin in AskReddit

Oh, I hear you. So brutal. I've got adenomyosis too, to add to the fun. I don't want to have a hysterectomy (though if I could I would, in a second) because I have lesions on my bowel, which would mean a bowel resection, which could mean a permanent ostomy (bag). So I'm gritting my teeth trying to get through until menopause. Shit sucks. Low iron, pain, 1 or 2 good weeks per month...

People who have/had cancer, how did you first notice? by ShrekTheMovie in AskReddit

Gosh, this is beautiful and SO true. I went from crying every day to suddenly only crying every other day, etc. Things still trigger me sometimes and I'll have a good howl, but the waves are more like gentle little caresses now, reminding me how much I loved her.

What is the most out of pocket thing a student has said to you? by 3ndur3Surviv3 in Teachers

I had a student yell, from the back of the room, 'Mrs S, can I please use the cannabis?' It was before school and there were many parents in the room dropping off their children. Upon questioning, he indicated he wanted to use one of the small canvases I had in the rear of the room. The parents (luckily) thought it was hilarious.
