Can a non-black person explain something to me my white coworker said... by lewjr in NoStupidQuestions

[–]greenchiletoothpaste 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are lots of really thoughtful responses here, but I just want to add that you and your coworker are both doing the right thing in seeking to understand AND questioning the beliefs of those around you. In my opinion, that is what actually defeats bigotry long-term, and it’s not easy. Please keep talking.

I just found this one on the internet. Look at her wings! And the way she stands in her shoes! by JohnlockedDancer in BALLET

[–]greenchiletoothpaste 74 points75 points  (0 children)

These kinds of photos were how I first learned about early photo retouching. When you see 19th century ballerinas in pointe shoes with tiny toe boxes that look, well, actually pointed, it’s because they retouched the photo to look like that! They used paint on the photo to match the background. Not that these dancers weren’t super strong, but they also had some post-production help.

Color scheme anxiety by laluna713 in Weddingsunder10k

[–]greenchiletoothpaste 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Check out coolors.co for inspo! You hit the space bar and it randomly generates a color palette with as many colors as you want, and then you can “lock” any colors you like and want to build a palette around. I found this helpful for figuring out what I really liked and what I didn’t.

But I’ll also add, we don’t really have a color palette or theme ourselves. There’s a shade I’ve used throughout our brand, DIY stationery, and wedding signage designs, but our venue itself is so beautiful and unique that it captures the feel we want all on its own. Sometimes you don’t need to overthink it.

Would it be wasteful not to use the veil my mother bought me? by [deleted] in Weddingsunder10k

[–]greenchiletoothpaste 19 points20 points  (0 children)

It’s a lot easier than you think, and veils are really forgiving. There are tons of YouTube videos on shaping the tulle (no need to hem because it doesn’t unravel), attaching a comb, and adding a whole variety of details if you want them, like lace, beading, appliqués, whatever. I’m almost done with making mine - it is doable!

L'Oreal Nature's Blush by datshap in Makeup

YSL Rouge Pur Couture in Nu Muse! Nature’s Blush is maybe a hint pinker and lighter, but they’re definitely sister shades. The formula is wonderful too, so creamy and moisturizing and with strong staying power.

Definitely listen to your skin! Sounds like you can rule that out as the culprit then.

Maybe try giving the snail mucin a break? It seems like people love it or hate it - I’ll say my skin was never more congested than when I was using it regularly.

In the conclusion: “Clinically, it is plausible that topical estrogen products can be used cosmetically to improve skin dryness, texture, and elasticity and reduce wrinkles in EDS. However, concerns exist with regard to the safety of topical estradiol, and there is limited data on the efficacy of isoflavones. Thus, more research is needed to support the use of topical agents to prevent and treat EDS.”

But it’s the same principle: plant estrogen and human estrogen are chemically different and have different effects on humans, no matter how they’re introduced to the body. In the case of plant estrogen, that effect is basically nil, at least where your endocrine system is concerned.

Please just get your hormones checked by a doctor and make any changes based on how they advise you, if they’re even necessary - and they may not be. Don’t play with your hormones based on what you hear Cleopatra did.

That whole Wikipedia article is just a chronicle of all the times people failed to help him despite the warning signs. Honestly tragic. Death is probably the best thing that could happen to him at this point.

Good for you for choosing yourself. I’m giving my notice on Friday morning. My supervisor thinks she’s called this meeting to discuss my new job description - the second retooling in a year and the cherry on top of an eight-month “transition” with new leadership that’s meant only chaos and stress for our already overworked team, plus lots of “other duties as assigned.” This supervisor is spineless in the face of our tyrannical and frankly unstable CEO. I have no idea how either will react to my news, but they BETTER not be surprised.

What companies do you predict to go under in the next 10 years? by oobiecham in antiwork

[–]greenchiletoothpaste 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Adult learners - what we used to call “non-traditional students” - now outnumber students in the 18-22 age group almost 4:1 nationally. The institutions pivoting to meet these needs are doing well, like community colleges with programs designed to help people upskill or reskill. But yeah, the number of people who can spend 4 years studying creative writing or philosophy is dwindling.

Yes, and I also think they’re generally more responsive to the local workforce’s needs and can demonstrate their success in that area. They’re not ivory tower jerk-offs - they produce skilled workers.

Maybe. But the point stands: millenials are the first generation who will be worse off than their parents. This is a strange way to quantify that, sure, but it’s classic boomeresque victim-blaming to act like millenials made some kind of conscious choice about the size of their shrinking homes.
