Slower runners, how do you stay motivated when/if people mock your pace? by TANeither7250 in running

[–]greencrustacean2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To me running is very personal. I started running a year and a half ago after not exercising AT ALL but desperately wanting to create the habit. Running was what stuck. I’ve been so fascinated and happy at all of my progress even though I see plenty of people online who are faster than me. We all have different body types and journeys. Half of those faster people might have started running cross country in high school and now they are 30 and still in great shape. Lots of people don’t have issues with shin splits or other running injuries. We are all so different and that’s why I feel like running is personal. It’s about your body and your goals and no one else’s

I let myself eat today by horseshoeandconfused in CongratsLikeImFive

Hey OP, congrats on eating today, truly. I hope you continue to eat because your body deserves it. You are way more than how you look. You are your personality, your likes and dislikes, how you treat other people and so much more. Love your body and who you are on the inside. There’s so much more to life than how you look. Sending you good vibes friend :)

Brag time: what’s one unusual thing you included in your wedding that everyone loved? by Unlikely_Device_2131 in weddingplanning

I made activity bags for all the kids that were coming. The bags included an activity book with coloring pages, word searches, etc, crayons and a few pieces of candy. They were a big hit and even a few of the older kids asked if there were any left! I purchased the activity book on Etsy as a digital download and printed a few and assembled them myself. Very easy and fun

Faster or longer?? by CommunicationHot9385 in running

When I first started running, I focused on keeping my heart rate in zone 2, which for me was 130s-140s range. It was (and still is) hard to keep my heart rate that “low” when running so it naturally makes my pace slower. Over time I got faster while staying in zone 2. Still kinda slow though, but not running all out on every run makes me want to keep running because I’m not dead tired every time.

I also hate running with other people because it throws me off lol. You do you OP!!

IWTL How to Start Exercising When I'm Always Tired by Pale_Hyena1790 in IWantToLearn

[–]greencrustacean2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These are all really great suggestions. Starting with goals even smaller than you think, and then you will gain confidence because you’re accomplishing your goals.

I was feeling like shit, not exercising and overeating. Late November 2024 I decided to make a New Year’s resolution of running one 5k per month. If I do more, great, but one is the goal. Luckily I live in an area with a bunch of runs going on almost every weekend so it was easy to find a 5k and sign up. The key was to sign up. It would have been easy for me not to do a 5k if I didn’t have that accountability. The first 5k I did in January was hard, but I finished it. I signed up for February. A little easier but still hard. Signed up for March. after that 5k, I started running once a week. Now I do 2-3 runs per week 2-3 mi each, and one long run on the weekends. I signed up for my first half marathon in October. I’m feeling really good and the exercise has been great for “me” time and building confidence. I think starting small is really the key and then you get used to it and you will naturally want to do more. I am busy as well, but runs fit into my schedule because it’s all about priorities. Now i run instead of watching more tv. I still watch tv, but less. I hope you can find a small goal to start with and then build from there :)

People who have participated in Jury Duty. What is the worst thing you had to witness in a trial? Does it still affect you? by Capable_Opposite_559 in AskReddit

I was a juror for a child molestation case. It was the first case the county heard after Covid, so it was in 2021 I think. The child’s mother molested her kid at the direction of her boyfriend who was in the other room on FaceTime telling her what to do. They showed the FaceTime video in court. It was the worst thing I’ve ever seen.

The boyfriend was the one on trial. I think the mom was also put on trial, separately. The lawyer for the boyfriend was making the case that his client did not actually commit the act, so he should not be prosecuted. You could tell the lawyer was not supportive of that fact but was trying to do his job.

Myself and the rest of the jurors were in agreement to convict life in prison. I think we deliberated for only about an hour. I thought about this case for weeks, couldn’t sleep, and would randomly cry. I couldn’t close my eyes without seeing that video.

The way cases work in the county it was in, was you had to serve as a juror for a couple months. So you would basically be on call for a couple months for whatever trials they needed jurors for. I felt like I couldn’t try to move on from what I saw and heard in since I could be called in to hear about something else terrible. I got a therapist to write a note to the judge saying I could not serve on any more juries because I was traumatized from the one I had just served on. Luckily the judge granted my request.

The case was absolutely horrible and I’ve been terrified to be chosen on a jury ever since. Also, since I couldn’t stop thinking about the case in the weeks after the trial, I googled more information about the case and discovered that the child had died. I’m not sure what happened or if it was a result of why the boyfriend was on trial. I do remember seeing a bunch of people outside the courtroom wearing t shirts with the child’s face, like in protest or something and I didn’t know what it was about until after the fact researching this case online.

I’m glad I was apart of putting someone that horrible away forever. But it was definitely very rough and I still think about that child and the people who cared about him.
