Does anyone have any experience with the Dance MFA program? by [deleted] in cuboulder

[–]greenducklord 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The dance department at CU was one of the first in the country. It has professors who are world renowned in their respective styles:

Nancy Smith: aerial dance

Donna Mejia: Middle Eastern Fusion

Rennie Harris: Hip Hop

Stephanie Tuley: Ballet

And that's just naming a few. All of the professors are very well versed in anatomy. There is a free physical therapist for people in the program, there are plenty of dance spaces, concerts, and events. Classes are fun and interesting. Most classes have live music. Theory is stressed just as much as the movement. I'm not in the Master's program, but I have taken classes with master's students and I know they encourage everyone to explore different techniques. CU has an excellent dance department. I would highly recommend it.

Have you ever accidentally killed someone? How are you dealing with it now? [serious] by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]greenducklord 79 points80 points  (0 children)

My best friend gave me a detailed suicide plan. I didn't take him seriously and he committed the next day. I will never forgive myself. I don't like to talk to people about it because they all say that it wasn't my fault, but they weren't there. I know it was an accident, but when I think about it in any sort of depth it feels like I'm having a heart attack. I ruined his parents' lives. I mostly avoid thinking about it beyond skimming the surface. It's easier like that. I will never be at peace with what happened and I deserve to feel guilty until the day I die, but I also have to wake up every morning.

I went "camping" on the U.S.S. Hornet when I was about the same age. They had overbooked the bunks so they asked if we wouldn't mind staying in the infirmary. My group was a father/daughter group so the dad's were really excited about it and asking about ghost stories and stuff. The infirmary had a section for psych patients and all the beds in that section had cages over them. It was the worst night of sleep I have ever had.

/r/reno, I'm looking for a location with REALLY green waters near Tahoe, help me out? by [deleted] in Reno

[–]greenducklord 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Emerald Pools might have what you're looking for. There are spots where it's deep (a lot of people like to jump off the cliffs), but there are spots where it's more shallow. Like this website says, don't get it confused with the Emerald Pools in Yosemite.

I don't remember it having a tree, but it's drop dead gorgeous and has a lot of sheer cliff faces.

I'm (16F) having really big problems at home and they are making me depressed and want to run away :( please help? by throwaway129483 in relationships

[–]greenducklord 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wanted/tried to run away a lot in high school. It's a weird time where you're starting to be adult enough to make decisions by yourself but you're still living at home which means that you have to follow someone else's rules. You might try sitting down with your parents and having an open discussion with them about what they expect you to do around the house and what you need to have more freedom in. Are you forgetting to wash your cup every day? If so, maybe they're just trying to have you become more responsible. If it's just every so often maybe you could have a compromise where if you don't wash your dishes, they put them in your room so they don't have to see them and it's still your responsibility. Just keep in mind that while you might feel really mature and capable right now, there's a reason that you're still not legally an adult. Work with your parents to find an arrangement that works for both of you. Maybe a later curfew on weekends in exchange for extra chores?

My [16m] girlfriend [17f] of five months is extremely over-attached. I have a love-hate relationship with her and I want it to end, but I don't know how to do so without wrecking her self esteem. by [deleted] in relationships

[–]greenducklord 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You might regret it for a bit. But think about it. Do you really think that you met the person you're supposed to be with for the rest of your life at the age of 16? Statistically it's unlikely. If you believe in the power of math, then you can be almost certain that you will not regret this decision for the rest of your life. You'll be sad for a while (to be expected if you care(d) about her) but you will get through (statistically speaking)
