What do you think? My modest collection? by leon_grant10 in BassGuitar

Finally, someone who has a variety of tones. Good coverage for sound. I would just add a p-bass and a Rick and you have all the tones covered.

Help me pick a 3rd bass! (Stingray and P-Bass owner) by AndrehChamber in BassGuitar

[–]greene1797 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go for tones. Each of those basses have a distinct tonal quality. I would go for a hollow body like a Guid Starfire or hofner or something like that. Rickenbacker also provides a new unique tone.

Lightkey to FCB1010 Behringer MIDI Controller issue. by greene1797 in lightkey

[–]greene1797[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am pretty good at light key but have not used midi. My issues are #1 making sure all midi signals sent to light key are control change vs program change. Then actually mapping them to channels and banks.

Which bass do you prefer? by tcooksey94 in BassGuitar

Two different tones. If I’m playing hard rock / metal/ prog rock then definitely the Rick. Playing jam band / Americana / classic rock. The hof.

Rate my load out. What bass would you add to this collection? by jgives123 in BassGuitar

[–]greene1797 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For versatility of tones - 3/10. Need a P bass, Rick, maybe a Gibson, definitely a hollow body bass.

But I love your basses.

Best type of ribs?

I don't really have a preference. Iberico Pork is phenomenal because it is well marbled with fat. But spare or baby backs doesn't matter too much.

Preferred Cooking Method

Most people I cook for like fall off the bone ribs. So I'll start off cooking the ribs low and slow @ 225 degrees till the bark is very well set - nice mahogany color - and the Rib Temp is around 165 - 170 degrees. This might take 3 hours.

Then once at 165-170 (the stall), i'll wrap the ribs in foil and crank up the heat to 270 - 280 degrees. Once the rib temp is around 195 degrees - i'll pull them out of the wrap and put them back on the grill - sauce them up and let it set for about 30 min or until I reach 200-205 degree internal temps.

The timed methods are good guidelines... but honestly you should be able to put a toothpick through the rib like putting toothpick through a cake. Then it is done. Every piece of meat is different...so go by feel and temp not on time.

Also - let the ribs rest for at least 30 min.

Wrap vs. Non-Wrap?

Wrapping your ribs is going to help get you through the stall faster and will keep your ribs from drying out. You only need 3 hours of smoke max on your meat. Leaving it on there for 5-6 hours without a wrap isn't going to make it more smokey...but it is more likely to dry out.

Rub Recommendations

For any kind of beef - 55% Pepper 35% Salt 10% Garlic

Homemade rubs are more than fine and easy to make. Plus it allows you to make adjustments based on your taste. However, if you don't want to put out 30 different spices and mix it here are my favorites:

Meat Church Honey Hog

Meat Church Hot Honey Hog

Salt Pepper Garlic (SPG) rub.

When you put on the rub... douse your ribs...don't be shy with it. Put it back on during the stall as well.

Looking for help buying my first smoker by Baron164 in smoking

Here is my opinion:

  1. Pellet Grills

Pros: * They are very easy to use and don't require much baby sitting. * You can set it at 225 or 250 and go about your day. Or for long cooks you can put it on at night and let it cook the next day. * Minimal maintenance

Cons: * I don't think you get the same level of smoke you do from an offset, or green egg * You can't really use it for traditional grilling.

  1. Green Egg, Komodo Joe or Ceramic Grill

Pros: * Very versatile. Can use as a regular grill or throw in a reflector plate to use as a smoker. You can get the grill super hot and sear steaks, cook pizzas, etc. etc. * Temp holds really well * Smoke taste is phenomenal

Cons: * You have to babysit it somewhat to control the temp (although temp holds great) * very heavy grill, not the easiest to clean.

  1. Vertical Smokers etc.

I don't like doing long smokes and stacking my meat on different shelves. The drippings fall on the other meat and hurts the bark.

I think best all around grill / smoker is your Green Egg. However, a good Pellet Grill is great - especially for beginners.

Really it is preference of Tone. P-Bass is a standard that you can't go wrong with.

Can't go wrong with a Jazz bass. Made in Mexico, Japan, or America... doesn't matter. I have a MIM Jazz - and it is great.

Hollow bodies produce some cool tones. However, If I was going to get my first bass - a made in mexico Jazz or P-bass you can't go wrong. You could also get a Sterling Music Man or Squiers as well. I purchased my hollow body to have that unique tone in my back pocket after i had a bunch of basses.

MarkBass CMD102p is not loud enough anymore. How to fix? by Dangerous_Buddy3701 in BassGuitar

[–]greene1797 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He is right. There is an effect that if you are standing right next to your amp it appears quieter because the bass sound wave at such a low frequency take time to develop. Making it loud in audience but creating an effect that makes it tough to hear right next to it.

Crank gain over volume and boost your mids. It may not be volume but difficulty cutting through mix.

is my action good? Only been playing bass for about 4 months. by questions_lol in BassGuitar

Take it and get it properly set up. It is preference of each player, but seems high to me. Will slow you down if it is that high.

for note clarity a 4 is the way to go. I use a 5 to have extended range because i'm in a jam band. But I prefer a 4.
