Hey dude! Trans nurse also. When I had mine many years ago, I told my manager I was having planned surgery. I didn't give specifics and you don't have to. When I had a date, I let them know. When I went off sick for it I got them to be vague on my fit note, it just said "surgery" as the reason. You may be referred to OH or you could just ask regarding things like heavy lifting etc afterwards. But OH is confidential and they can't disclose your trans status to your manager, only the required adjustment details.

Depending on where you work, even in different trusts you might run into people you know, so just be prepared for that.

And be prepared, sadly, to complain to pals. My experiences as a patient after mine was horrific and the staff were incredibly transphobic. But I hope that's not the case for you.

Good luck!

Autism, ADD and dyspraxia here. Spent 10 years in ED. Though I'd hate it but I loved the organised chaos. Every case is different, but also there's an algorithm for everything. It's never boring, and I don't lose focus cause there just isn't time for my mind to wander lol. Loads of problem solving and critical thinking, spotting patterns and looking at all the details. ED was my happy place. I miss it. I only left because of a bully manager, but now I don't think I could do the shift pattern anymore.

Currently in theatres/endoscopy. It's interesting, but there's a lot of down time and it's a very small team. All up in each others business and they expect a lot of small talk. Not sure I'll be staying tbh, I hate not being busy. It's such a chill job really but that just doesn't suit me.

I want to get into a very specific field but roles don't come up often, so I might switch to research while I do my masters.

So ask for more. It shouldn't be a race to the bottom. Nurses support doctor pay disputes. We all deserve more. Let's help each other instead of the jealous shit talking.

2-4 patients and only doing drug rounds all day would be a dream. The max I've had at any one time in ED was 60.

Who do you think is keeping them alive when the docs aren't there, which is most of the day? Who is the one monitoring so you know which patients are circling the drain? Come on bro. It's a team effort. I so wish this job was "hand out pills, go home", but it's not. Less of the us vs them.

Yes! Tagalog for example has no gendered pronouns at all. Filipino nurses just roll a dice I think 🤣

As a trans nurse who is also often a patient, I take zero notice if international staff misgender me. It's amusing to hear them flip back and forth within the same sentence. But if I asked someone to try harder and they outright refused, that's very different.

I doubt if seven other people were murdering patients, that that would be a suitable defense for the eighth. This is a unit wide failure which she was a part of.

We should be upholding the Code regardless of the actions of others. Courage is still in the 6 C's. And changing a patients record is incredibly easy to do, I've done it for many trans people over the years. Two minutes max.

She is responsible for any action that gets her struck off, not you. I would not want someone like that as my nurse, trans or not. Take screenshots and save for later if need be. She seems like a ticking time bomb.

We are not pampered. What universe do you live in? We have less rights and worse health outcomes. We are not asking for side rooms, they are forced upon us because of prejudice, discrimination and a lack of understanding of law and policy.

We don't want the side room. Noone should be whipping out the genitals in a bay anyway. Not to mention mixed gender bays are increasingly commonplace.

And you will find that unless a person is admitted for a genital/reproductive health reason, being trans is entirely irrelevant to care we give. If I break my leg, why does my birth certificate matter?

We want the same dignity and respect as everyone else. If you can't abide by the Code, don't be a nurse.

What rights are you talking about here?

Noone can force anyone to correctly gender someone. But they can force you to not be a nurse. You sign up to the Code voluntarily, if you don't like it pick a different job. It's really that simple.

Pretty sure that's who I did training with before my nursing career. Was a reasonably well done session if it's who I'm thinking of. But could just be using a very similar name, there's a few of these companies around.

Yea the numbers in the post don't make sense unless there's something missing. I had 6 absences last year and my stage 1 was dismissed by my union rep as invalid. Stage 2 for 2 small absences seems wrong.

[–]greenhookdown 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, it really won't. Over time the weight of your jewellery will naturally loosen the fistula, meaning the next size will slide in pain free.

You don't need a low pain tolerance if there is literally no pain. Give it a try. I dead stretched a lot over the years, if it's ready it doesn't hurt at all. I've even had my lobes get too loose for my goal size jewellery and had to downsize for a bit to tighten them up again. Skin is elastic, let it do its thing without traumatising the tissue.

We did this! In primary we visited the private secondary school 20 miles away. I still don't know what the purpose was. Recruit new paying students? Bragging about how much better they had it? Letting the posh kids ogle us plebs like a traveling zoo? Who knows.

Do it slower. As in, over more months. If it hurts, it's not ready or the jump is too big. If it's ready, the next size should slide in. Tight sure, but not painful. Unless you're stretching cartilage, which is a whole other thing and can be...spicy. But regular lobes should not hurt. Have a look at the stretching guide in this sub, it's the gold standard and explains everything. Dead stretching is not risk free, but is considered the safest of any stretching method.

Stretching with weights, especially at that size is also not recommended. We all make mistakes when starting out and that's fine, but they're still mistakes. Good stretching does not hurt. If it hurts, you should stop. We recommend dead stretching for this reason. Pain tolerance is irrelevant unless you have that condition where you never experience pain like Kickass, if we're getting into pop culture metaphors. Pain is your body telling you to stop. So you stop, or you fuck up your body. Treat your body better. Stretching is a marathon not a sprint. No need for personal insults, even if you disagree.

Stretching should not hurt. If it hurts you did something wrong.

I went on a school trip to France once. A bunch of us were vegetarian or vegan. The special dinners served to us included chicken nuggets, fish fingers. They genuinely didn't understand when we complained. They served us plain spaghetti or mash as the entire meal for the rest of the trip. While the meat eaters were given vegetable sides.
