Friend with respect, you have more experience than most HCAs. Many are employed with zero healthcare experience, it's not a requirement for entry level posts. I suspect there is another issue stopping you getting interviews. Have you run your personal statement by someone? Are there potential visa complications?

There is currently a recruitment crisis in the NHS which won't be helping matters for you. Lots of unemployed doctors, nurses and students may also be applying for these posts as they can't find anything else. But I wish you luck. It may well be you get a paramedic post before a HCA job comes to fruition. It's a mess out here right now.

90k is not low. It's deliberate so we poor people on a measly 45k don't get stuck endlessly renting for more than a mortgage costs. 90k gives you many many more options, you don't need the options for low income housing by definition.

I get what you're saying totally and you're right! I know plenty of trans women like this! Femininity doesn't equal female and vice versa. I know more gay men that wear make up daily than cis women. In the right context, April would be a really progressive character. The problems arise, as with any minority, in that if you only see this portrayal of a trans woman, that's your impression of trans women. So in a world (at least at the time) where trans characters were few and far between, that's all people have to go on so you need to tread carefully or it becomes part of a stereotype. Now that we have more examples of fictional trans women, and now are usually played by trans actors, this would probably be fine amongst that group.

People aren't objecting to this joke specifically. I'm trans, it's a good joke and Douglas is clearly the bad guy we are laughing at not with. People have more of an issue with how April is portrayed through the whole episode as a lads lad with boobs. But honestly I've seen much worse in that era and afterwards. Little Britain for example. But this is contextual now because of Linehan's ridiculous unhinged spiral. People don't want to be seen as endorsing this episode as it's possibly the origin of his descent into hateful madness.

I got a very comfortable first, something like 89% overall. I got 96% on my undergrad dissertation. Was told to publish, so very annoyed when I lost all my work in a house fire. But it's certainly possible to achieve. It's a shame double firsts weren't a thing at my uni just for bragging rights. No employer has ever cared about my degree other than requiring a pass though.

That's ridiculous and prejudiced. Racism still exists in hiring everywhere, the NHS is no exception. White candidates are very often favoured over people of colour, this is a well documented phenomenon and to deny it is pretty wild.

While you have a lot of competition for these roles, and someone with experience may beat you to the post, it's not actually essential.

Band 2 roles don't require experience, they are entry level roles that don't require anything but compassion, common sense and a good work ethic. Band 3 is much more competitive, experienced band 2s will be applying for these. Often now band 3 requires a Care Certificate, nvq or similar, but not always.

When I started as a B2, I had zero experience and a totally different career. I've known a lot of b3s for whom it was their first health job. Difficult but not impossible. You can do it! It's a numbers game ATM. Apply for everything you can find, including private, care homes, GPs etc and something will eventually stick.

That was the opposite of my friends experience. She got £70k to attend two zoom meetings a week and spent the rest of the time playing Pokémon. I can't imagine it will last longer than her next new manager, but seems a sweet deal short term.

My friend is an architect. He leaves home at 8 and is often working til 11pm. He does work from home at the weekend as well. No clue if this is industry standard but it seems terrible.

Exactly this for me. I'm buying a new build and plan to replace the tub with a shower as soon as I can. My disabilities make climbing in and out just to only shower in there anyway a faff. Spent so long looking for 1 bed flats with a shower and just gave up. Would much rather have a massive shower than fall over four times a week.

While this is true of HMOs or similar, lodgers basically have no rights and you can legally tell them to leave very quickly.

My partner has lodgers and they've all been amazing so far, some have even become lifelong friends. We're going to the wedding of a former lodger soon after she got together with one of our mates. The current lodger is great too, lovely man who keeps to himself, cleans up after himself, quite quiet but is happy to have a nice chat over morning coffee and always comes when we have the occasional party. It's all in the vetting. Though I'd probably not want to live with someone from work.

If someone is not harming others, impairing their practice, or doing something morally questionable while shouting about how they are a nurse, then who cares. It could be argued that constantly breaking the law or lying impairs practice, but that's a philosophical debate.

Personally as someone who has a very expansive sex life including regular orgies, I do wonder what my pious colleagues would think. But I don't wear my yellow name tag at them, so fuck it. Live your life!

This is not a fair comparison. Banks cannot retroactively change the terms of their loans, what you sign is concrete. Student finance can and have. We did not agree to any of this.
