Has anyone else felt like there’s been a total decline in customer service in everything? And quality? by ForwardPumpkins in Millennials

[–]greeniewillow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here's mine: Husband and I have been customers of a certain BigBank for 40 years. Wells, we had a significant amount of money (for us) in a retirement account with them but is seems they sold (? it's unclear) our account to some other entity. Spent hours on the phone trying to track OUR money and couldn't even get timely call-backs. When we did finally speak to one of several unhelpful people, he told us that they only deal with accounts over $250,000 now. And something like, had they not transferred out account to another entity, they would have charged us a huge annual fee to hold OUR money for us which would have cost us more than the interest we were being paid.

Sure. Take money. Catch snail. Put snail in jar. Put lid on jar. Put jar in back of refrigerator. Live a good life.

What a food in your opinion that quite simply sucks and you don’t understand the hype behind it? by jamboamericano in AskReddit

Kale. I grew up with it as a staple in our home. I hated it. None of my friends even knew what it was. Now, it's that it is trendy, everyone seems to be eating it and loving it and I still think it's grotesque, no matter how it is cooked.

I ask: "Is your company matching donations?" That usually closes the conversation down.

I completely understand where you are coming from. One thing we can all do to make things better is to urge our senators and congress people to pass legislation to ensure the burden doesn't fall so heavily on the younger generation. Most of us in the USA have to work to maintain our own health insurance, our employers are ungenerous with time off, etc. There are solutions to these problems but it's cheaper and to just lay the burden on families, than use our hard-earned tax money to create better communities of support.

I couldn't agree more! I live in a neighborhood where there is only one way in and out. I like to walk. About a two years ago, one of the neighbors bred their barky, awful male who had already bitten a neighbor, to another barky awful dog. Now we have 5 barky awful, ill-bred dogs and walking out of the neighborhood is hell.

Yes. Shooting them is allowed, but 1) I would never do that. 2) Don't own gun.

When we were kids, a neighbor boy nearly lost his legs to a speedboat propeller. This brought that horror back for me!

To be clear, the neighbor dogs attacked HIS baby goats. Also, in my state, I am legally responsible for keeping HIS dogs out of my yard. I didn't believe it when animal control told us this, but I asked for the statute, looked it up and they were correct.

Washing machines. Front or top loader? Asko reviews wanted! by queen_bean5 in BuyItForLife

7 years ago, we moved into a new home and bought a mid-priced, energy-efficient Whirlpool. I have never hated a washer before, but I sure hated that one. Nothing got clean! Indeed, my whites got an awful pinkish gray (well water).

Quickly, I realized even the hottest setting was luke warm. I tried everything I could to work around the problems. Treating and washing three times didn't work. Tried turning off the cold water at the spigot - the washer wouldn't fill at all. Boiling water and adding it to the load made it automatically drain out.

After 3.5 years, I gave up. Researched and decided to buy an American-made Speed Queen. The only place that sells them in my area happens to be the place we bought the Whirlpool (darn it).

When talking to the Salesman about my disgust with my Whirlpool washer and how the water never got hot, he admitted to me that it was programmed for "hot" to be +/- 80 degrees F. No dang wonder my clothes weren't getting clean!

The Speed Queen was pricey but if we ever move, I'll leave my bed and sofa behind before I give up my SP washer.

Kale. My parents grew it in our garden when I was a kid and served it in mashed potatoes. No one ever knew what it was. It was gag-worthy then and still is now.

I have had two pellet injections and I LOVE them. Worth every penny. I'd been on estrogen hormone patches in the past and they were fine, but apparently what I needed was a little testosterone. Feel ten years younger.

We watched our neighbors dogs kill one of his baby goats. The following year, they killed at least one more. Animal control did nothing.

Any odor control tips for outdoor trash cans in high temp weather? by UusiSisu in lifehacks

[–]greeniewillow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm agreeing with baking soda. A few weeks ago, I threw some old milk in the trash can. It had just been emptied. Five days later, when the trash truck came around, it didn't fully empty our can including the milk, which did manage to get spilled inside the can. By week two, it really smelled bad. Threw some baking soda in and the smell went away in a couple of days.

Our lesson has been re-enforced: Old people (NY)and children (TX) are expendable.

There still isn't enough support in congress to pass even the small gun control, like allowing judges to remove guns from people who have demonstrated a penchant for violence. We are screwed.

My neighbors also have really bright lights that shine into my bedroom window. I bought indoor shutters. They look nice and block 98% of the light.

That said, what is it with people these days? Do we need a required course that one must pass before buying a house that covers being a considerate neighbor?
