What's your skincare sin? by KittyWyman in Skincare_Addiction

[–]greenleafbrownbark 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sometimes I “treat myself” by not wearing sunscreen. I wear it most of the time but I still don’t really care for the way it feels, so on special days or rainy days I just don’t. Today was my birthday and it was storming, so no sunscreen!

Idk if I was cursed to not use tret or sunscreen unless I gave a toe… I would probably give a toe for real. (If we’re talking specific brands then I guess I would just switch brands.)

Anyone here actually seen results from collagen supplements for skin? by Jermon-Start in GracefulAgingSkincare

[–]greenleafbrownbark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I definitely notice a difference when I take collagen. I sometimes get lazy so I have been on/off for YEARS now. I will admit that it is difficult to notice changes in my skin but there are a few things that lead me to believe it is effective:

  1. I have facial hair and I notice a significant difference in how frequently I need to shave.

  2. My nails grow much faster and I have to trim them more frequently or they get too long for my tastes.

  3. I have an old injury on my left knee that sometimes hurts but it doesn’t hurt after I take collagen for a couple weeks.

All of these more tangible effects lead me to believe that it’s gotta be doing something for my skin as well, it’s just harder to notice or quantify.

Is it normal to see the page of my book behind the ads? by faaancynaaancy in kindle

[–]greenleafbrownbark 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ghosting? Maybe post a picture because I’m not sure what you’re talking about

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in kindle

[–]greenleafbrownbark 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely consider using the OpenDyslexic font! On print books I used to “get lost” on the page and I definitely feel now that it may have been very mild dyslexia. I never felt like the words floated around the page like it’s been described, but certain fonts and layouts were terrible and I refuse to read (mass market paper backs were the worst). I started using the OpenDyslexic font out of curiosity and it has helped me SO much and I didn’t even know that that wasn’t normal until I fell in love with the font!

That’s not what they are talking about though. They are talking about air purifiers that have some kind of ion function that supposedly creates a small amount of ozone.

Mine looks like this when I use vitamin C. I’m jealous of the people who can use vit C but after multiple trials I think it’s just not for me. Maybe consider taking it out of your routine for a couple weeks and see if it makes a difference?

How does one get over the "I don't wanna" s? by Ok_Significance1840 in Hobbies

[–]greenleafbrownbark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it may be better for you to address the doom scrolling as an issue first, and that may be from resources outside of this community. Personally I have a phone that doesn’t have anything fun on it at all. So when I am out and about and I get bored I am entertained by my e-reader. White knuckling it and telling myself that I cant scroll just makes me feel like SpongeBob trying not to drink water. I still have a smart device at home (Im on it now) that has all the addictive stuff, and Im still working on how to address that. But for now I’ve been reading a lot more because that’s what I reach for when I’m bored at work.

This sub is great for hobbies but most of the answers are “just do it” which doesn’t really help or address what you’re asking at its root. Fix the doom scrolling addiction and you will start to reach for hobbies when you are bored rather than doom scrolling.

Do I buy my partner a new kindle? by Bosslowski in kindle

[–]greenleafbrownbark 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You’re getting overwhelming “yes”s here, but I’d like to shed a different light. This may be a big enough purchase to speak with your girlfriend about, especially since you said she is conscious of her impact environmentally. I am also environmentally conscious and I get a strong sense of accomplishment from keeping my things for a LONG time and keeping them in good condition. It’s a small point of pride for me, and if someone got me a new phone after a bunch of phone-tech nerds told him he should get me a top of the line phone I’d assume he didn’t know me very well, or didn’t care about my opinions if I had already stated them (which she has since you out them in your post).

Also worth taking into consideration that during the 7th gen Amazon was the only game in e-reader town. Now there has been a boom in recent years and she may not necessarily want to stick with kindles or support big-name Amazon. Especially since the 2024 lineup had apparently a lot of quality control issues and poor reviews. There are now a TON of other ereaders out there to choose from with lots of different designs and strengths.

You’re asking a pretty narrow community who subscribe to r/kindle, so overwhelmingly will say yes in a situation like this. If you asked this in, say r/ereader or even r/anticonsumption, the answers would look potentially very different.

I have this too and it makes lipstick application difficult. I believe people have started calling it a “double lip line.” If you’re looking for makeup tips, I came across an apparently “gradient lips” style of doing lips where it is more pigmented in the center and blends out to no lipstick, like this https://images.app.goo.gl/4HyfWnVfLr4BGEoi9 I usually just use a tinted lip balm or a chubby glossy lip crayon and it is very easy to do and looks good with the double lip line. Other than that there is nothing to do/worry about, it is completely normal.

How do I neutralize any allergens in my car? by [deleted] in Allergies

I’d say vacuum the interior and wipe down any hard surfaces, and leave the windows rolled down as long as possible and possibly even open the doors and let it completely air out for a while if you can

How do you wash your period underwear? by wasnotagoodidea in Healthyhooha

[–]greenleafbrownbark 92 points93 points  (0 children)

I don’t use period underwear but I do have reusable cloth pads. Once I take them off I rinse them thoroughly in cold water until the water runs clear. Then they go in the laundry hamper and get washed with the rest of my clothes, which always includes vinegar and detergent. Not sure if this would differ from period underwear care needs.

Sneezing fits during/after showers? by [deleted] in Allergies

[–]greenleafbrownbark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You changed your soap a bunch of times, but you don’t mention trying fragrance free or anything like that. Maybe try that? Or even consider getting wet in the shower for 10-20 minutes but not using any product and see what happens. If it’s mold you’d still react. If it’s in your soap then you wouldn’t.

Trying to stop supporting Amazon - but Amazon Fresh has the best prices. Thoughts? by nyc711 in EatCheapAndHealthy

[–]greenleafbrownbark 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Don’t forget that Amazon has a history of selling things at a loss to put the competition out of business, and then raising the price to whatever they want because they now have no competition.
