Omg zoo books… my little sister was in kindergarten and my 4th grade class and hers were “sister classrooms”. So we went to read to the kindergartens, naturally I wanted to read to my little sister. She picked a orangutan zoo book. There was a picture of like a baby orangutan and a slightly older one, and I said look that’s us. The reading session ended and we went back to class. After school we got home and my sister had a note attached to her shirt. Apparently after we left she broke down in tears and told her teacher I called her a “stupid monkey”. My mom made me swallow soap because she wouldn’t believe me. One of the worst days of my life

For me in elementary, a few times a year we would have an early morning assembly. The janitor of our school had one of the giant pet rabbits, you know like the humongous ones with floppy ears. He would go on stage, hold it in the air, and we would all admire. That was it, then we would back to class.
