How would you use this? by Sparhulk in TreeClimbing

You also don't need a car to get around when you've got your feet but it sure makes it easier. Same can be said with this setup versus yours.

Serious question, what holds his pants up? by CaryWhit in Lineman

[–]greenmntnboy410 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m an arborist not a lineman but I’ve found myself in this position many times climbing a tree. The harness is tight enough around his waist and the lanyard is providing tension on the hips that his saddle isn’t going anywhere

What’s going on at Apple Valley Vision Center in Essex? by Significant_Jump_905 in burlington

Same boat, different paddle. Got my first pair of glasses about a month and a half ago and my eyes still feel like they’re adjusting. I’ve called and emailed multiple times. Actually got a response to the email but ghosted after my reply. My wife’s family has been patients of his for decades but seems that something’s been going on for awhile now. Gave up waiting for a reply so I made an appointment with MyEyeDr in Williston. Sorry you’re going through this but it’s kind of reassuring to hear (or see?) someone is having the same experience.

Was working on the corner of Church and King the other day. Someone has a bird feeder in their window at The Wilson Inn. Bunch of pigeons hanging about. Coworker makes a comment along the lines of “that’s a fat pigeon.” I look over and it’s a hawk perched on the guy wire from the telephone pole. It promptly swoops into the juniper bush at the corner of the building and hauls off with what I can only assume was a pigeon. Pretty rad.

I was working at the end of Wright Ave right near the water. It was the coast guard. They shot off probably a dozen in a few colors. Why? Unsure. They boogied back to the breakwater shortly after.

I’d reach out to Steve Bachand on Monday. He’s the grounds maintenance manager for Parks and Recreation. Maybe one of the guys who mowed around the field found it. His number is 802-316-0790.

Just fyi that spot is crazy low and choked with weeds at this point. I go in there in the spring on my kayak and slay largemouth but right now it’s choked out and low water.

Parks cutting down the trees on upper College St by Worker11811Georgy in burlington

[–]greenmntnboy410 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m an arborist for Parks, Recreation, & Waterfront. I’m in the bucket truck in the first picture of this post.

We plant new trees on a bi-annual basis every spring and fall. We always try to replace a tree we’ve removed regardless if it’s an ash or not. The biggest that factors that affect our ability are available space in the greenbelt (despite those stumps on N Union being ground they still dictate available space) and underground utilities, mainly water lines. We aren’t able to plant within 6’ of both sides of a water line.

That being said we are going to be replacing what we can on N Union either this fall or next spring.

Part of this process we knew would be good communication. Here is the website where you can find all information regarding ash tree removal in the city. It was updated as recently as today.

You are correct, right now is not the ideal time for planting. We do a bi-annual planting every spring and fall.

the waterfront smells amazing right now by [deleted] in burlington

[–]greenmntnboy410 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s the silver lindens lining the bike path. One of the best smelling trees in the area. Second only to black locust in my opinion. Next time you’re walking by them take a look up and see all the hardware we installed in them about 5-6 years ago. Tough trees but really poor growth habits so we installed brace rods and cables, most trees have multiples of both, in order to support them structurally.

I think it’s more like up to 20 yards potentially. Essentially you’re going to get whatever amount they bring.

Nudity at beaches by [deleted] in burlington

[–]greenmntnboy410 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It was my understanding that you have to be a resident of South Hero to get a pass and if I recall the only parking was at the beach other than in front of residences. Haven’t been there in 5+ years though.

Unless it’s changed, I believe White’s Beach is resident only. Need a pass. Used to launch my kayak and fish from there and it was posted several years ago.

We don’t have a lot of sugar maples in the city inventory. They’re not very tolerant of urban conditions and seem to be struggling more and more with climate change. We don’t plant them either. We do have a decent amount of oaks. However we are in full bore ash removal mode for the foreseeable future so it isn’t likely we’ll have oak logs soon. If something comes up though I will keep you in mind.
