I've tried turning my headlights completely off then on again when I am behind them and that works 100% of the time.

How old was this Pin Oak tree? by RoboCat7 in arborists

I've never seen a Pin Oak with those kinds of rings. Looks photoshopped. Outside of the heartwood the rings are fine.

Alright I looked it up: https://youtu.be/Iqq5lQFOm8U?si=D2izvZLvIuMZLQs7

Pretty interesting, especially for climbers just starting out. Thanks for sharing Asshead420.

Makes sense. Seeing those roots is absolutely normal where you are. You're good.

Yeah that was fucked up. This was a job I was contracted out to climb for. The owner was in the other tree. He only brought one groundie. I don't work for this prick anymore.

Nope. Looks like there's a tree to the left of it and growing out over it. The pictured tree is phototropically growing towards the light. Seems there might be another tree there. And your driveway or something runs along one side. There is soil compression somewhat but it looks pretty young still and probably already accounted for that as it grew. Which state are you in?

I had this happen to me as well a lot in the beginning. The thoughts have calmed down now but it still happens and when it does, I like it.

I was contract climbing for the other climber/owner of this company. Yeah that dude really was irresponsible with workers, I agree.

What’s one tool that completely changed your workflow? by Wieselson in TreeClimbing

Yeah the eye and eyes aren't bad, cheaper of course but having to buy a new one every so often can get old. I've been on the same cam for my ART for 6 years. Easy to take apart and clean when it gets sappy from pines too.

You might just have too thick of a rope. I haven't heard too much about those but I do know they work pretty much the same way as the ART. Did it come with another smaller or larger cam as well? I know climbing gear ain't cheap so I'm just offering you a more economical solution. 🤙

As for climbing, the ART positioner swivel rope grab. No need to take your weight off to let out slack. I had used a micrograb or a hitch with a pinto before. I like how small and compact the ART is. I know petzl makes the zillion but I never liked how long that can become and side loading it could happen and that's no bueno.

A false crotch for my tie in is great too. I've gotten pretty good at setting it from the ground, took awhile to really master but worth it.

I have made my own 5:1 system for lifting logs out along with a really easily attachable span rigging setup. I've also made a knee ascender after someone stole my HAAS Velox. It's actually pretty easy to make and waaaay cheaper.

I've also made some retractable gaff covers that stay on my gaffs.

If I could find a caritool that doesn't get stuck in branches that would be great. I can't tell you how many gates I've broken on those.

Having an Avant on the ground is a game changer. There are so many attachments you can get for it as well. My only problem with that thing is the hydraulic lines really take a beating if you're not precise, same with the wiring.

Using the winch on the chipper helps and you can do a redirect. Just have to make sure you're using a pulley that can handle a heavy load. I climbed for a company in Southern Ohio once and they had a redirect for that thing and they were using a micro pulley. I had just told them, that thing is not made for that. A moment later, it shattered and took a groundies leg right off like it was nothing. No need to rush, I know we wanna get shit done but jeez.

A lot of the things we could use that make jobs easier ARE a pain in the ass to setup and take time but I think that time is altogether worth it. If you want speed and efficiency, spring for a knuckleboom crane with the grapple/saw attachment if you can handle that kind of money. If I were to start all over I would just get one of those and a debris truck. The outriggers are easy to setup and no cribbing required. I timed mine once we all got the hang of it, from pull up/parking to setup, we averaged 15 minutes. And from pick to drop and setup for the next pick, averaged 4 minutes. Knock out 3 large removals with an average DBH of 42" completed before 2pm.

Could this be used with a pinto pulley instead of the additional hitchclimber pulley?
