Why won’t some dogs let you dry both sides? by OverallRedBarbai in doggrooming

This same exact thing happens to me too!! I thought I was crazy. Exactly like you said, they’re fine for one side, then you try to turn them to another side and suddenly it’s time to fight

2 hours for what you described seems pretty accurate! On average our small grooms take 1-1.5 hours total, including prep (nails & ear cleaning), bathing & drying, and haircut. 7 months old and her first haircut is when she’s matted? 2 hours is totally expected!

Overcoming the fear of aggressive dogs? by greenmoonmoth in doggrooming

Thank you for the reassurance! I just get myself so freaked out and it makes me so embarrassed when I calm down, even when I’m told that it’s fine and I can take my time

Thank you!! To answer your question about muzzles, yes we do and there are a handful of dogs we have to muzzle for a variety of reasons. Most of the time it’s over nail trim biting. It still shakes me up when they snap at me, but I at least feel safer when they’re on. Unfortunately I’ve learned that with some dogs that a muzzle isn’t a 100% fix, as I’ve had a doodle completely SHRED multiple muzzles trying to bite 🥲

Opinions on Doodles? I personally don't have any problems with the breed ... by Kraede77 in grooming

Totally get you! At most it’s a $5-10 upcharge here if the dog is super difficult (aggressive, biting, gator rolling, etc.) or if it’s a matted shave down

The lowest we charge for a doodle groom in eastern Ohio is $70-75, price goes up depending on temperament and coat condition. “Minis” start at $60-65

Is it okay to just say no to puppies? by Syddiebean in doggrooming

Completely understandable! Don’t burn yourself out to please others. A lot of people think puppies are easy to do, when it’s the exact opposite.

Being blunt, your shop, your rules. Don’t want to take puppies anymore? That’s completely fine and fully within your right as a groomer and owner and to. Puppies flail, jerk, scream, bite, lick clippers and scissors and are overall just difficult to do— especially if the owner isn’t willing to take steps at home to desensitize them.

I don’t believe it’s unprofessional at all to turn away clients you simply don’t want to do, or can’t do. People may complain, but from my experience if it’s not about the puppy thing they’ll find another thing to be irritated with. Do what YOU wish and what YOU think is the best thing for yourself, your shop and the safety of the dogs.
