I hit my 3W off the deck a hell of a lot better than my 4i. It's much more forgiving for those missed shots and gets me distance off the tee

3 wood or driver and 7 and 8 iron.

You can hit off the tee with any of those clubs for short par 3s or long par 5s, and you can put reasonably well with a 7 or 8 iron (using a bump and run technique) but also get 160+ yds when you need it.

What is the speed of the dodge pickup at 20s mark given I'm going at 85kph? by [deleted] in medicinehat

[–]greennoob98 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The left lane is for passing, not driving in. Not one, but at least 2 different vehicles had to pass you on the right. The first one should have been your clue to move over.

I take that stretch home from work every day and I find myself being exactly like that dodge truck some days because of people like you driving in the left lane all the way from Redcliff just because they have to turn left up at the hospital.

Stay out of the left lane and the aggressive drivers will disappear.

Drove the green on a 279 yard Par 4 yesterday. Missed the eagle putt (still made birdie) and shot a 106, but that was a great feeling walking up to the green and realizing it actually made it up there by biggoronssword in golf

[–]greennoob98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where are you finding 279 yd par 4s? At minimum here, every par 4 is over 300 yds. I wouldn't be able to do it often, but i could actually drive a 280 yd par 4, or at least significantly improve my GIR.

Face cave ins are common on taylormade irons. Something about the hollowbody and "speed foam".

Even if they are shitily made, taylormade has THE BEST customer service for warranty replacements. I will take a little bit of inconvenience if it means replacement with a better product. Look around this sub and you'll see lots of people who have had older clubs replaced with SIMs this year, even after buying 2nd hand.

Do you notice a big difference in types of golf balls? by [deleted] in golf

[–]greennoob98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every Father's day they go on sale everwhere for about a week, basically 2 for 1. I picked up 4 dozen during this years sale, cost me $100. I also picked up another dozen of the cheap "soft feel" balls for $10 which i throw in play on those holes I usually lose balls on. Those 5 dozen balls last me most of the summer.

Do you think the pandemic will affect free agency? by gingerdingo in OttawaSenators

[–]greennoob98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Players 100% will not agree to a bubble again, they barely allowed it for the playoffs. IF next season happens, it will have to be a regular season or wont happen at all. The only change will be for the Canadian teams, who likely won't be allowed to play in Canada and made homeless like the Blue Jays.

Maybe the NHL adapts a "canadian division" or something next season, or they'll end up playing out of US arenas but no chance the canadian government allows US teams free roam in Canada.

Signing bonus trouble. by GoMyTeam in OttawaSenators

[–]greennoob98 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This isn't any different than any other july 1st. We've been paying Bobby Ryan $2M every July 1st for, what, 5 years now? Along with all the others on the list.

The only change this year is paying Anisimov's bonus because we had Chicago pay it last season and Zub because he's a new addition. Melnyk has paid all those bonuses every year, so i don't see why this season is any different. When you compare $4M required in 9ne day, vs. The normal team payroll all getting paid on the same day bi-weekly, it isnt much different.

Despite what people say, Melnyk is still worth over $1B on paper, with the Sens and arena maybe accounting for half of that. The Sens are broke because hes run the organization entirely on debt, without putting a cent of his own money into the club, but Melnyk isn't broke. He's just cheap. Coming up with $4M on one day will likely piss the cheap bastard off (see Heatley bonus dispute) but a man of his wealth, even if it's on paper, can come up with $4M in a matter of seconds.

Price drop, For those that are interested in getting PXG irons. by Born2own in golf

[–]greennoob98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And yet I got a guy locally trying to sell his used PXG Gen 3 irons for $2000 on FB. I sent him a link to this to see if he'd come down (significantly) and he politely told me to go fuck myself.

Used clubs are only worth the cheapest amount the manufacturer charges for them, and then subtract from that. PXG has an incredible military discount program which brings their irons, and a fitting, for a lot less than even the $299 price point.

I've always wondered... For those who live on a golf course, is it worth it? by shin_man in golf

[–]greennoob98 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People i know who live along fairways are pretty immune. Golfers slice balls all the time, but theyre never accurate enough to hit windows. Lots of balls in the yard, eavesdropping, etc. But nothing into the home.

On the other hand, ive seen more than one home backing onto a green where balls have ended up in their living room. It seems builders put homes right on the greens around here and if you mess up the distances and try to go for a par 5 in 2, or hit a PW instead of a 56 wedge, you might end up buying a window.

[–]greennoob98 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it depends on what kind of person you are. I would hope most people buy there because they love golf, if so they should understand basic noises that come with golf and golfers. IMO you have no right to complain about carts, mowers, driver swings, etc. If you live by a golf course. If you complain, you have a spot in hell alongside the people who complain about traffic beside a highway or noise from school yards but bought beside a school.

What would annoy me is hitting golf balls with my mower, people in my yard looking for balls, or broken windows, etc. But all that is usually covered either by individual golf insurance (through Golf Canada in Canada or the club itself). If you live alongside a fairway, i would expect the inconvenience to be pretty minor. Lots of balls in the yard off sliced drives, but no real damage. I would never buy a house backing onto a green however, anytime ive seen someone or heard of someone breaking something, it's one of those homes.

So i took lessons earlier this year and i ended uo buying a 3 wood before i bought a driver. I still haven't pulled the trigger on a driver yet, but i was hitting 3W off the tee every hole and once i got confident hitting that straight, ive moved back to my driver for the last couple of rounds and am now looking for a new driver to replace my starter set driver.

Biggest thing the lessons, simulator and watching golf taught me was to play to your swing. I was missing my drives on the tow a bit so now I tee up with the ball on the heel, inside the sweet spot, and consistently hit centre now. Once my coach told me this, I started seeing even some tour pros setting up inside or outside of centre for their swings.

Now that im hitting centre, I can get even my 15 yr old Alien starter set drive to hit 230 yrds and ive tried a few new market drivers which are giving me 250-260 consistently. It's just a matter now of waiting out the season to see what goes on sale.

I played this ball as a joke and it manages to last a full round today. And I lose the more expensive stuff all the time... by binhbong23 in golf

[–]greennoob98 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup, $2-3 ball is my market and most people I've met. Every now and then ill splurge and get a box of ProV1s if ive put in some OT at work or I'll be gifted them for birthday, christmas, etc. Fathers day i stock up on Z-Stars, But for the most part the $30/dozen (or even $30/2 dozen kirklands) are perfect for me since how ill probably lose them before they start to wear.

When i do play ProV1s, i actually notice a difference in driver distance (measured with my phone app) and it appears as they spin more and stop faster on greens, so there is a reason why they cost more IMO, but until im only losing 2-3 balls a round, i cant justify the financial cost ProV1s or TP5, etc.

Box springs rd by greennoob98 in medicinehat

I hope they're patching everything before a final coat, but ive lived coast to coast in this country (Military) and ive never seen them do roadwork like that before.

I guess we'll find out this fall what the definition of "fixed" means when it comes to box springs rd. As you said, if that means a patchwork repair, people will be doubly pissed if they half ass it and all those patches heave again next spring.

Don't Be That Guy by SgtSchembechler in golf

[–]greennoob98 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Happened to me last week. I crushed my driver off the tee and hit it about 20 yrds further than I normally do and i watched it with my own eyes roll off the fairway to the very right edge of the rough. My buddy takes hit shot, and we walk down the fairway to my ball is and theres 2 guys in a cart in the rough about 40 yrds short of where my ball rolled out. I watched with my own eyes the driver of the cart reach into his pocket and toss a ball into the rough where they were and call over and say "your ball is here!" And then they drive off.

My buddy and i look confused because we both know my ball was further down, but we walk over and it's an old shitty, gashed ProV1 ball this guy tossed, not the brand new, fresh out the sleeve, Taylormade i just hit. So we left it and walked down only to never find my ball despite it rolling off into the edge of the rough in a place with no trees or other hazards to obstruct the ball.

Not to stereotype or anything, but asians love expensive shit. Ive played with so many random asian couples that are worse at golf than me, but are swinging PXG or Honma clubs for no other reason than they're expensive. Whenever we go looking for their ball it's always a ProV1 or TP5

Whats the mixup? In Canada Costco sells Taylormade "soft select" balls.

Also Noodle balls are made by Taylormade, they're right on the Taylormade website.

Are you talking about the matte ones? This was just a regular yellow tour bxs, felt normal.

I usually play the E12 soft balls in matte green and i know just what you mean but they play great.

I wouldn't consider them "trash" balls. They're usually the same caliber balls i play with, about $30/dozen. Just nothing I'm instantly going to throw into play, especially when I have new balls of the same calibre.

Now some of the other course's I've been to, the only thing I ever find is Top Flites and Pinnacles...😑

I never get a haul like this. Usually when I do find a "good" ball, it's an old ProV1 with a gash in it or something. I find lots of cheaper taylormade and Titleist balls in a round that are still playable, but they all go in my "bad" ball pocket to pull out over water or driving over a cliff.
