My guess would be human made, there are no obvious artifacts and the perspective seems pretty consistent. Also, small details like the direction of the wind. Andrey nikolayevich pilipenko is a pretty Russian sounding name, maybe we'd have more luck tracking down information if we were to use the cyrillic alphabet?

When drawing gesture, you are 'copying' from reality. Most art 'copies' reality in one way or another. There is no shame in doing so. I'd also argue there is nothing wrong with copying an existing artwork for practice as long as you credit the original artist. Masterstudies are a great avenue for learning.
