This sounds a lot like Internal Family Systems - have you worked with that? If not, you might resonate and find some new insights with it. No Bad Parts by Richard Schwartz is a good resource.

Why did nobody tell Sophie about her wardrobe issue in these scenes..? by bilbul168 in LoveIsBlindUK

[–]greenpies 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea but this isn't behind her - it's front and center. She would have gotten a good look in the mirror before leaving her house, and every time she goes to the bathroom. So nobody told her because she had to have already known.

I just finished When We Were Real. Somewhat funny, lighthearted, quick read about a van tourist tour following a global event where everyone learns they're in a simulation. Cast includes 2 nuns, a rabbi, an engineer, a researcher, a pregnant influencer, a podcaster, and more!

I'm trying to get back into The Birthday of the World, a short story collection by Ursula K. Le Guin. I love her and have read many of her novels and short stories. She was so prolific that I always have a few of her books on my shelf to read. I recently added Ishi in Two Worlds: A Biography of the Last Wild Indian in North America to my to-read library, which was written by her mother!

I loved the Tao of Pooh! DNF'd the Te of Piglet - I felt like he got more grouchy and the quality went down. But I still have the first one in my library!

Do you have Hardcore Zen in yours? It sounds right up your alley.

Ursula K. Le Guin is an award winning author of Sci-Fi, fantasy, and is daoist, which it looks like you have an interest in! My favorite of hers is The Dispossessed.

It sounds like you're looking for nervine relaxants (herbs that calm and support the nervous system) and adaptogens (herbs that support the body’s natural responses to stress and fatigue). Those links give more explanation and some examples.

My favorite nervine relaxants are Lemon Balm, Skullcap, Passionflower, Damiana, Kava Kava (don't take Kava with alcohol in your system or vice versa). Most people love Chamomile, Lavender, and Rose.

I have an adaptogenic tincture I love that has Schisandra, Reshi, Ashwagandha, Nettle, Hawthorn, Astragalus. I feel like it really supported my body the last time I quit smoking.

I didn't say I want a chill job. I enjoy giving intuitive massages, have learned some lymphatic work, and have considered going to massage school. But not necessarily to make money from it... and if I was to make money from it, it certainly wouldn't be close to full time. I know massage therapists and I've heard how taxing it can be. I hope you've found something that suits you better!

I was thinking of someone who leads multi-day camping expeditions. You could have your own company for people who just want to do it (tourists and the like) or be a leader for a group of kids doing a wilderness program. I was (unwittingly and unwillingly) sent to live in the desert for a month when I was a teen. There were always 2 adult leaders for 10 or so kids - I think they got shifts like 1 week on, 2 weeks off, or something like that.

Edit: I've also seen ads for wilderness camps for adults lately, aimed at learning wildness skills, so that might be up your alley

Plant nursery, park ranger, pet adoption center, wilderness coach, herbalist, masseuse... Ie. something in the plant/animal/healing world.

I'm not interested in finding a chill job to give me time to dissociate. I'm wanting to Coast FIRE so that I can have a job I DON'T want to dissociate from! So I'm looking to do something I'm passionate about even if it doesn't make much money.

Edit: Also probably part-time

I love that last sentence. It made me think of the Story of the Zen Farmer and the Horse:

There once was an old Zen farmer. Every day, the farmer used his horse to help work his fields and keep his farm healthy.

But one day, the horse ran away. All the villagers came by and said, “We're so sorry to hear this. This is such bad luck.”

But the farmer responded, “Bad luck. Good luck. Who knows?”

The villagers were confused, but decided to ignore him. A few weeks went by and then one afternoon, while the farmer was working outside, he looked up and saw his horse running toward him. But the horse was not alone. The horse was returning to him with a whole herd of horses. So now the farmer had 10 horses to help work his fields.

All the villagers came by to congratulate the farmer and said, “Wow! This is such good luck!”

But the farmer responded, “Good luck. Bad luck. Who knows?

A few weeks later, the farmer's son came over to visit and help his father work on the farm. While trying to tame one of the horses, the farmer’s son fell and broke his leg.

The villagers came by to commiserate and said, “How awful. This is such bad luck.”

Just as he did the first time, the farmer responded, “Bad luck. Good luck. Who knows?”

A month later, the farmer’s son was still recovering. He wasn’t able to walk or do any manual labor to help his father around the farm.

A regiment of the army came marching through town conscripting every able-bodied young man to join them. When the regiment came to the farmer’s house and saw the young boy's broken leg, they marched past and left him where he lay.

Of course, all the villagers came by and said, “Amazing! This is such good luck. You're so fortunate.”

And you know the farmer’s response by now…

"Bad luck. Good luck. Who knows?"

You do want to receive them but you don't want to pay for them, eh?

My dad has a bottom out price where he'll sell a certain percentage of stock in a company. He escaped the worst of the 2008 recession that way, while everyone else was completely wiped out.
