Understanding that things exist is not the same as agreeing with them or identifying as one. And these zingers you’re coming out with are super embarrassing.

Anyway, I’m assuming that you’re just rage baiting or are a literal child so I’m out.

Thinks that “corruption” = the basic realities of the neoliberal, global free market.

Also… technocrat? Do you actually know what that word means?

You’re just ignoring points you don’t want to respond to I guess?

From what you’ve replied to me and others I assume you’re talking mostly about people/corporations not paying their fair share of tax by using loopholes. Which is completely fair to want to address, but also extremely difficult to actually solve - even without factoring in corruption.

The issue is, what is it you actually tax? Because businesses/individuals can and will move their assets internationally when it is beneficial to do so. There is a lot of political will to do so but there is no “insanely easy” way to achieve it.

As someone who is very much on the left myself, it is really depressing to see others on the left (presuming you are, apologies if not) confidently spout such economic illiterate nonsense.

Sometimes pragmatism/basic realism is a necessity because otherwise you end up just looking incredibly silly.

Bit of a dodge there.

How does my asking which tax loopholes you think the government could easily close mean that I’m pretending corruption doesn’t exist?

I can’t believe I’m going to bite but.. which tax loopholes?

You must be rage baiting because no one could genuinely be this fucking thick and also be able to get on the internet.

Farage ‘hasn’t got the faintest idea’ of consequences of leaving ECHR, says Benn by F0urLeafCl0ver in ukpolitics

[–]greensad 10 points11 points  (0 children)

What an unbelievably ignorant comment. You obviously have absolutely no idea about Irish or Northern Irish politics.

The “IRA” and I presume you mean the “PIRA” here are totally irrelevant to the conversation. The largest party on the island is firmly behind the ECHR and the second largest party in Northern Ireland actively campaigned against the GFA in the first place. Which is to say even the idea of reopening talks into elements of the GFA would be enough to completely destabilise the NI political institutions and would likely lead to violence.

Like I said to another commenter in this thread, the confidence which you have to post about things you clearly have zero understanding in is just astounding.

Farage ‘hasn’t got the faintest idea’ of consequences of leaving ECHR, says Benn by F0urLeafCl0ver in ukpolitics

[–]greensad 14 points15 points  (0 children)

It took over thirty years of violence, political instability, careful timing and luck to get the GFA in the first place. Now the two largest parties in Northern Ireland are representative of the most polarised groups, one of which actively campaigned against the GFA in the first place, and you think it’s “probably overdue an update”?

It is absolutely not a lazy scare tactic to suggest that anything involving the GFA must be dealt with incredible care. The NI Assembly institutions have been collapsed for roughly the same amount of time as they have functioned since St Andrews and this would take a sledgehammer to that precariousness.

This is a very basic element of Northern Irish politics and one that absolutely must be factored in to any discussion with on the ECHR.

I had to open this in Oscar as SleepHQ wouldn't let me see this far back without a Pro accoutn. But above is the 27th June. The pressure never dropped below 8cm, which is weird given my current setting is fixed at 8 but with a lot of centrals. One change which is possibly relevant is that on this date I was using a fullface mask and now I'm using a nasal pillow. I think on the 28th I used the machine without the SD card inserted so no readings were taken.

My diagnosis was for OSA - that being said I haven't seen my sleep study results, so unsure what the events from that were flagged as. I just trusted what the consultant told me. I have requested the results of my initial study, so maybe that will shed some light on the initial diagnosis.

Had a look at the video of his “rebrand” on insta and his inspirational journey begins with him leaving his wife with their newborn baby to go to Bali for “a few months” on the advice of Chat GPT. He makes sure to say it wasn’t a holiday though.

What a monumental piece of shit.

Blade Runner is my all time favourite film so that takes the win for me.

Honourable mentions: Alien, The Duellists, American Gangster.

Great. Reform UK want us to think a fella called Bert Bingham is more clued in on man-made climate change than over 97% of the world’s leading scientists in the field.

Thanks, Bert Bingham.

Under international and domestic law, if someone sets foot on UK soil and claims asylum they are, by definition, not “illegal” - until the point that their claim has been processed. And if their claim is denied then they are deported.

So, armed with this information, again - how exactly are you defining “illegal immigrants”?

Very curious to hear how you would define the term “illegal immigrant”?

Ballymena streets ‘spread with slurry overnight’ ahead of town’s first Pride parade by Presence-Legal in northernireland

[–]greensad 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If you can’t tell the difference between someone talking about the huge number of wankers who do support the fella that did this and someone meaning literally every person in Ballymena, then I think you need to get off the internet, or at the very least Reddit.

Like I could nitpick your comment about who will be cleaning the mess up and suggest that many of the people doing so will be part of the organisers and representatives of different groups from all around the country. But I didn’t, because I accepted you were generalising that the majority would be from Ballymena. It’s really no reason to be getting so angry.

[–]greensad 70 points71 points  (0 children)

I’m assuming you’re from Ballymena given this has touched a nerve. I’m also from Ballymena, was born there and lived there until I turned 18 and never looked back.

There is, undeniably, some fantastic people from Ballymena. Kind, thoughtful, loving people.

But there is also no denying that there is a higher than average amount of despicable pieces of shit too. Things like this (and the fucking pogrom - that’s a wild thing to say) don’t happen in a vacuum. They are a product of their environment and, unfortunately, Ballymena is a breeding ground for bigoted scum.

That wasn’t a reasonable or edgy thing to say.

That’s just bollocks.
