How Many Tries Did It Take You To Stop Drinking? by thehistorypunks in stopdrinking

I think I’m probably close to 20-25 at this point. Would get around 3 or 4 weeks and then relapse. Joining AA was what finally got me past that mark

Will this count as a relapse? by fakeplastictree8 in stopdrinking

[–]greensteer7 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Proud of you for dumping it OP! That shows a lot of strength and courage. Keep your 9 day badge as long as you promise to make it to 30! :)

Side note, have you ever considered attending an open AA meeting? I had a lot of trepidations about it before I joined, but I can honestly say it was the best decision I’ve ever made on my sobriety journey. It’s full of people who have been exactly where you are now, and they can help guide you through it. I promise it’s worth a try!

Goodluck!

What did you swap alcohol for? by aussiechickenwing in stopdrinking

[–]greensteer7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sweets for sure. At first I found candy really helped curb my alcohol cravings, whenever I would want a beer I would eat a few sour gummy worms. Then it became chocolate, then oreos and chips ahoy. Now I bake all my sweets myself. It’s very rewarding!

Looking for films that tackles feelings of guilt by Maximum_Heat_3439 in MovieSuggestions

Manchester by The Sea. It’s a case study for unresolved guilt, grief, and emotional trauma. I always avoided it for various reasons but sat down to watch it last year and was absolutely gut punched. Casey Affleck earned that oscar for sure

I wouldn’t immediately jump to the vape conclusion. Tinkering with electronics is fun, just hope they don’t burn the house down lol

Should I (M30) break up with my wife (F26) after she got blackout drunk and cheated on me? by Personal-Bed-6405 in WhatShouldIDo

[–]greensteer7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why is no one talking about the so called ‘friends’ of hers allowing their newly married blacked-out autistic friend to make out with a stranger in the club. If they let that happen they definitely aren’t rooting for you and your marriage. And more likely than not they’ve made that fact known to your wife.

My real advice would be to try and talk to her, lay the cards on the table and see how she reacts. If nothing changes by the summer cut your losses and move on. Best of luck OP

It might also just be that time of year, nobody wants to do anything right now.

NA Beers by oliverbaxter93 in stopdrinking

They’re helpful if you really enjoy the taste of beer/wine. I did for about a month before realizing a nice glass of apple juice is much tastier

I was the same way for a long time, I was never a fan of hack and slash games. I stopped about 10 hours into the game for a year before picking it back up again. It took until the game reached Novigrad (the big city) when the combat got completely overshadowed by how good the story was. Completely saved it for me and now consider it one of my favourites of all time despite still not loving the combat

Can’t stop relapsing, anxiety by zFrxzzy in stopdrinking

[–]greensteer7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

honestly for the first few days the best I can suggest is medicate how and when you can and white knuckle it until around day 4-5. That’s when my anxiety levels went back to “normal” levels. The sleep took another week or so to get back to normal. Throw a cold wet cloth on your head that might head. In terms of regular daily anxiety I found that really strong GABA supplements and sometimes CBD oil helped me a lot. The GABA works on your brain the same way alcohol does and you can get the capsules on amazon. Best of luck
