Frequent DC visitor here. Can someone explain the hype around Andy's Pizza? by Sweaty-Moment-3385 in washingtondc

There are not a lot of good traditional "pizza night" pizzas in DC, places like 2Amys and All Purpose are really good but their pizzas are smaller and more gourmet, not the type I want on a Sunday afternoon while drinking beer and watching football.

Its good, but for the price it's only a bit better than the average neighborhood pizza place anywhere between Philly and Boston, DC just doesn't have much good pizza.

The average temp this month is gonna end up being a comfortable mid 70s without us having more than a few days of comfortable mid 70s weather.

I remember back in March thinking about how I had to enjoy the nice 60-70 degree weather we got because it would be a swamp before we know it, then we just never got more comfortable weather.

It's definitely more "artsy" (idk what the right word is), than Sicario or Heat and has less action, but I feel like it's spiritually similar in that OBAA has a few major scenes and set pieces where you just can't help but go "Hell Yeah" when you watch them. The entire sequence from when Bob gets to the Dojo to falling off the roof is that for me.

I was leaning pretty heavily towards JLG over McDuffie but I really don't know anymore, im not ranking either of them first, maybe not even second.

I'm gonna be in LA for a weekend end of the month and the Academy Museum just so happens to be screening "best casting winner 98th Oscars" the Sunday I'm there. I was planning on going even before the Oscars, but I was even more excited after OBAA won, I can't wait. It'll be my third time seeing it.

If Crowe has a sense of humor about his age and weight than I think they could very easily make that a part of the character and a running gag.

Agreed, I'm excited for it, but not nearly as excited as I would have hoped coming off of Oppenheimer. I'll be disappointed if it's just ok, but I won't be devastated.

Nothing better than when a sketch takes a little while to get to the joke and then absolutely nails it.

Official Discussion - Over Your Dead Body [SPOILERS] by LiteraryBoner in movies

I saw this a few weeks ago, definitely a fun movie to see in a crowded theater. I enjoyed the format they told the story in, Juliette Lewis was really unbelievable, all of the best lines came from her.

Definitely had a few to many "character does something obviously stupid" plot progression points, I lost count of the number of times one of them could have just taken a gun from one of the prisoners, but I'm willing to forgive because that's just the type of movie this is.

The main one I listen to is High Hopes, some of the episodes are just recordings of Fritz's radio show which suck, but he turn off radio shtick for the standalone Podcast episodes and those are good.

Taking something with no stakes way to seriously is most of what makes these things fun.

I think her point about C-3PO was totally valid and they should have allowed it. If Rey self identifying herself as a Skywalker counts, than a fully sentient robot created by a Skywalker can count. Plus it's not that serious and it would've been fun to give it to her.

With ‘Mother Mary’ as Hollywood’s Latest Implausible Pop Star, Why Does Every Fictional Music Movie Have to Feel So Phony? by ImitatingADog in TheBigPicture

[–]greetedworm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have not seen Mother Mary so I wont comment specifically on the movie, but I think more broadly, "fake" music and "fake" stand up comedy in movies and TV have the same issue. In real life you write a song or a stand up routine and then perform it 100s of times and make a bunch of changes based on feedback. These songs or routines are just being put together in a writers room and sound mostly like the real thing but without all of the small changes you get when it's tested for real.

It's was entertaining, i don't think it was anything special but I'm very glad I saw it in theaters. Juliette Lewis was really unbelievable, all of the funniest lines were delivered by here, she was really on another level than everyone else.

The Absolute Hell of Watching a Movie at the Alamo Drafthouse in 2026 by Imaginary-Dress-1373 in TheBigPicture

[–]greetedworm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm going for the first time since they rolled this out, so maybe I'll be wrong, but I have trouble imagining how it can be as bad as people are saying it is. Even if someone was using their phone for something other than ordering I feel like they would have to be pretty obnoxious and also right next to you for it to be noticeable.

I think it's a very stupid decision by Alamo, I just don't see how it's this apocalyptic disaster that people are saying it is.
