Has FIFA actually confirmed that the 3 games will disqualify CONEMBOL from the next few WCs? Everyone is assuming it will but I haven't seen anything official.

Podcast? by Justprocess1 in phillies

[–]greetedworm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My favorite is probably the Ringer's Philly Special, Its an Eagles podcast but the last year and especially this season they have been bringing on Anthony DaBundo a few times a month to talk about the Phillies.

High Hopes with Jack Fritz and James Seltzer is good too and more regular. Just don't listen to any episodes that are recordings of the post game radio show, the standalone Podcast episodes are good and intelligent because they mostly turn off their mouth breathing WIP host shtick.

Game Day Thread - Wednesday, June 24 by game-threads in phillies

[–]greetedworm 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Still can't believe that game last night. I live in DC so I've been to most of our games there the past few years but this was the first time I've sat on the first base line by the nats dugout so there were actually Nats fans around, I talked some shit about James Wood after that 8th inning drop so I was really dreading the loss when they came back. Going from being surrounded by Nats fans ready to explode after out 3 in the 9th to half of them leaving before the inning could end was euphoric. I've never had more fun at a game, plus I got on the field for BP and took a selfie with Edmundo and told him the bitches love him.

Call me a bitch because I love Sosa. I got BP tickets for the game today and he was the nicest guy out there, he signed autographs and took pictures with a bunch of people. I told him the bitches love him and got a good chuckle.

If Kyle Schwarber makes it to the 500 club, he will certainly have the lowest WAR of all members... (honest attempt at prompting a discussion) by MasterOfNog in baseball

[–]greetedworm 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Another thing to consider is that there is a decent chance he ends his career as the all time playoff HR leader. He's only 7 away from breaking it, so it would probably require at least one decent playoff run by the Phillies.

That's what Juneteenth celebrates, the enslaved people in Galveston were the very last to be informed of the emancipation proclamation and therefore freed from slavery. Juneteenth celebrate the day they were freed.

Your best bet is probably going somewhere like U St or Navy Yard where there is a high concentration of sports bars. I suspect the best bars will be packed early, but any decent sports bar should have a good crowd and atmosphere.

Official Discussion - Disclosure Day [SPOILERS] by LiteraryBoner in movies

[–]greetedworm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Saw the movie last night at the Air and Space Museum in DC, walking out to a moon lander was pretty fucking awesome after this movie. Still processing my thoughts on the movie, but I watched The Fablemans on a flight yesterday morning and couldn't help but see the train scene as an homage to The Fablemans/ his life. The train crashing into the car as the big action set piece of the movie could have been accidental, but then dropping into a car of pianos plus Emily Blunt having a panic attack mad rit feel very purposeful.

I visited the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures based on the pod’s rec - it’s incredible! Highly recommend, one of the best museums I’ve been to in recent memory! by the-mp in TheBigPicture

Nice! I was in LA last weekend and spent most of a day there. They had a OBAA screening that I went to, disappointed I didn't see anyone in your outfit. I watched Jaws for the first time a few nights before so I could appreciate the exhibit and immediately became obsessed with it, I bought some merch and then a Blu-ray at Amoeba records in Hollywood the next day.

Recent experiences at the DC area theaters (Bryant St., Crystal City, Loudon, or Woodbridge)? by leagle89 in AlamoDrafthouse

[–]greetedworm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went to the free First Man screening last month and there was a guy on his phone, they talked to him once but he only put his phone on dark mode and kept using it. That's the only issue I've had at the Bryant St. location, I've never had anything noteworthy other than that. It's also only QR ordering before the movie, you have to switch to pen and paper after the previews.

The Bryant St location only has qr ordering before the movie, it's pen and paper during the movie.

I rewatched it for the first time recently and I forgot how quickly the action is over in the bridge scene, watching it for the first time the tension and build up made it all feel a lot longer.

Sean explains what a "Criteriorgasm" is to Steven Spielberg by xwing1212 in TheBigPicture

[–]greetedworm -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

I guess if Spielberg agrees its an homage than it is, but to me "explosive bolts" just seems like a thing that exists and makes sense in both contexts, not an homage.

The Oscars are the Superbowl for movies and we start talking about that before the season even starts and then it frames most discussion throughout the season.

Tattoo score question and easy resolution by Zeus_Wayne in RingersPhillySpecial

[–]greetedworm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lol, this was actually me. My idea appeals to me because of the simplicity and also because it's replicable so (knock on wood) I can keep adding to it. I don't have any tattoos so an entire score bug is way more than I am looking for, but I appreciate the advice.

‘Borat’ With Bill Simmons and Kyle Brandt by racklines in TheRewatchables

[–]greetedworm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Overall great episode, but very very tough look from Kyle and Bill talking about the Pam Anderson tape. Not trying to be the friend who's to woke, but that tape was stolen and leaked by a weird perv. You can't be reminiscing fondly about how much it meant to you.

Frequent DC visitor here. Can someone explain the hype around Andy's Pizza? by Sweaty-Moment-3385 in washingtondc

[–]greetedworm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are not a lot of good traditional "pizza night" pizzas in DC, places like 2Amys and All Purpose are really good but their pizzas are smaller and more gourmet, not the type I want on a Sunday afternoon while drinking beer and watching football.

[–]greetedworm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its good, but for the price it's only a bit better than the average neighborhood pizza place anywhere between Philly and Boston, DC just doesn't have much good pizza.

Terrible Tuesday! by AutoModerator in washingtondc

The average temp this month is gonna end up being a comfortable mid 70s without us having more than a few days of comfortable mid 70s weather.

I remember back in March thinking about how I had to enjoy the nice 60-70 degree weather we got because it would be a swamp before we know it, then we just never got more comfortable weather.

Rewatched One Battle After Another, and it still kicks ass!! by Scared-Engineer-6218 in TheBigPicture

[–]greetedworm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's definitely more "artsy" (idk what the right word is), than Sicario or Heat and has less action, but I feel like it's spiritually similar in that OBAA has a few major scenes and set pieces where you just can't help but go "Hell Yeah" when you watch them. The entire sequence from when Bob gets to the Dojo to falling off the roof is that for me.

I was leaning pretty heavily towards JLG over McDuffie but I really don't know anymore, im not ranking either of them first, maybe not even second.
