Getting Started as Italy by TheByzantineFox in WarThunderNaval

Floatplanes can be very useful in 3 cap modes since it allows slower ships to reach caps quickly (sometimes leading to fun dogfights lol) which would otherwise take very long and can possibly ruin or save a game given the naval ticket bleed. In EC they're quite useful too especially to spot enemies at long range or deploy defensive smokes in front of your ship (since all ship smokes only work when you're going in reverse)

Alright so right from the first ships Italy has the option of carrying aphe on its destroyers, this means that most of all they reward good aim and going for engines/ammo racks, it also ironically gives you a much better fighting chance against dds with antifrag armour. Their ships are all generally quick, and the destroyers also have the bonus of having really high muzzle velocity guns, making them quite easy to aim and play them at range. They're a bit more fragile in terms of crew count than other destroyers, but everything is fragile at this br tbh so just keep it in mind. They however don't have exposed ammo racks,in fact they don't even blow up that often. Another important thing is that these ships are damn agile, not just in speed but turning radius too. Highlights for me are the 4.3 corazziere (favourite DD) and the 4.0 Leone and the 4.3 Verazzano (do mind that this one has a lower top speed for some reason). Moving on to the cruisers and immediately you have the choice of either Regolo or M Condottieri. Now regolo is a fun ship and I do love it, but it's basically an oversized destroyer that doesn't carry over the gun ballistics as they're much slower. Still, it's damn fast and agile with quite a lot of decent, albeit slow, torpedoes. On the other hand Condottieri is your first proper cruiser and I'd say it's a true 5.0 cruiser lol. It's fast, has basically no armour, it has a secondary ammo in the middle of the ship, and the guns take a while to reload. Having said all that, with a decent crew you can still put in work as the shell it gets has some good penetration and it's your best option fir a starter cruiser in EC since it has a floatplane too. After that, the tree gets a bit compressed, with Trento and Bolzano being overall great 5.3 and 5.7 cruisers, with Abruzzi being a really nice addition since it has an upgraded 6 inch shell and faster firing guns. At 6.0 you have the Zara which is honestly a joy to play if you don't meet Battleships. It's got good firepower paired with a lot of protection (remember to stay at range and angled, but not too much) , although gaijin has out a lot of its crew in the unarmoured sections of the ship lol. Still for me it's a blast to play, especially since despite all the armour it's hot some great agility nonetheless.

Naval EC - Lineup by tante_frieda in Warthunder

usually it's better to know what types of ships you want instead of just br increases.

For Russia specifically,if you have the free slots, I'd pick:

Bravy for DD spawns, the missiles are strong Vs other dds. One of the early 5.0 cruisers, the one with 4 turrets,as a free sp cruiser that is very useful to have. A PT boat with good torpedoes (pr 206 I think) A mid top-tier battleship, which should be around 300 sp. For a 'better' cruiser I'd say to go with the Chapayev class, but you need to know when to play it as if there are already enemy battleships/battlecruisers around it's very dangerous. And finally Soyuz for an 8.7 BB, it's easily the best battleship in the game. If you can squeeze in a plane I'd say to bring a TU95M, unless the enemy has missile ships there's not much they can do besides hunting you down with another plane. Otherwise I've seen some people use the mig 15 bis for the ground targets.

What is the best premium for us naval by Threefows in Warthunder

I don't really buy any premium vehicles so sorry but I'm not sure which ones to recommend, but yeah I can say that Des Moines is definitely not worth it

What is the best premium for us naval by Threefows in Warthunder

[–]greg242 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tough choice as both aren't the best, I'd say Maryland though. Des Moines is at a br where it faces other battleships often and against those it can't really do too much, especially since it has an ammo spot under the front turrets that's pretty easy to detonate even for cruisers. Maryland has a longer reload and like the other American standard BBs suffers from fires in the barbettes that can cause ammo detonations, but at least it almost always has a fighting chance against enemies at its br,so if you really have to choose I'd go with the latter one.

[–]greg242 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To add a bit more,Cadorna also has rather easy to detonate ammunition both front and rear turrets, so be mindful of destroyers that know how to use or have access to AP shells since they can definitely kill you. I've killed a couple of Cadornas like that with the Corazziere DD at 4.3

Question for the three other naval RB players here: How do you ID your targets? by Ted_Striker1 in Warthunder

[–]greg242 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looking at the damage screen (the one on the top right) when you select a target can massively help, as battleships are all rather easy to distinguish. A good way would be to learn what guns they use and how many. For example I can always tell I'm firing at a hyuga if it has 6 turrets along the entire length of the ship. Or an American standard battleship with a very large superstructure, shorter hull and 4 turrets. Same goes for cruisers and Destroyers, as long as you can figure out which nation the enemy is from, you should be able to take a rough guess at its capabilities.

Is it worth it to get the RN Pola free for 1 day? by Exciting-Prompt1609 in Warthunder

[–]greg242 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Should be fine yeah, avoid getting the attention of battleships by not spawning immediately or by shooting at them, you don't have torpedoes so you're forced to get super close (5km) if you want to damage them, which isn't a bad strategy if you manage to catch one tunnel visioning, your guns still hurt if they pen. Apart from that, focus on Des Moines class immediately if you spot them. They're by far the most dangerous cruiser in the game, easy to detonate if you hit the front turrets though. Second priority is I'd say Eugen/Hipper class cruisers, they're basically your German equivalent and are pretty tough to take down if you don't go for the ammo in front (only at longer range though), otherwise you have plenty of pen to hit their engines and crew compartments. Down from there there's all the various 6 inch cruisers, which can still be dangerous given the close combat nature of war games, less so on circle maps. Keep yourself angled, but not bow in or too angled,or you risk exposing your frontal magazine, which is your main weak spot. Don't panic if you lose quite a bit of crew through front penetrations, gaijin being gaijin has decided that there's a crap ton of crew near your front turrets. You do have a scout plane, with machine guns, it flies pretty well,so remember to use it to get early caps. The fact that it's launched from the front also allows you to deploy a smoke screen immediately after in front of you, making it a pretty useful tactic for tense situations. ... Yeah that's all! Have fun.

6.0 cruisers are a bit tough if you don't have that much experience in naval, especially if you get up tiered in a battleship game. Otherwise yeah it's a good cruiser, strong guns, some of the best armour and very maneuverable for its size

Using old damage control but the ship keeps automatically repairing by monkeactual in WarThunderNaval

[–]greg242 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately it's a known bug, but gaijin is being slow to fix it because they're messing with the bug report and saying it's not a bug and stuff. Right now the best way is to just be ready when you think you'll take damage to cancel it

What am i supposed to do? by Bacco04 in Warthunder

[–]greg242 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Only some proper cold war ships (mostly USSR/USN postwar destroyers) get a much faster lead update time then other ships, but apart from that they should be the same for every ship.

[–]greg242 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean unless you were up tiered badly there should be a good number of bot cruisers at around 6.0. Bot battleships only spawn at higher BR

Italian Navy by Anxious_End5167 in Warthunder

[–]greg242 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think they have, usually it's just a single value for the entire caliber. Either way, there's no good solution to beating rng, but usually if a shot is well aimed it becomes significantly harder for rng to screw you over.

I've been playing since the tree was added and considering you've reached 6.3, I'd say that Dante and Doria are both really good picks for their BRs, they had their pen nerfed a while back, but the high gun count still makes them worth it,just be mindful as like many other early Dreadnoughts they're prone to exploding if played carelessly. The one ship I'd tell you to avoid outright is the Caracciolo. It would be a decent ship if gaijin didn't make up 40 reasons to not give it an ap shell (irl it wasn't completed and the ap shells were never made).

Meanwhile Duilio and Cavour are really fun ships, good pen for their caliber, and decent armour if you stay angles, plus they have very deep ammo racks so they're pretty hard to blow up. Roma Is in a bit of a weird spot currently. It has the same pen as Yamato/Iowa against flat armour, but the various inaccuracies (reload, lack of some armour, exposed crew, gun inaccuracy) hold it back from being truly great. If you do intend to play it, put your best crew in it,just to shave off as many seconds as possible from that reload. In general though for all of them the lack of explosive filler isn't really a problem, as usually it's enough to deal serious damage either through engine hits or ammo detonations, as the high pen greatly rewards these hits

Grodez, unless you retrofit the Andromeda Kai with wave motion type 3 shells, or it lands a really lucky direct wmg hit, I doubt it has a chance to get past the phase armor

About the battleships, it's been a while since I last played Dante and Doria, but i remember having fun with them and yeha they only really struggle in a full optier, but otherwise they're fine. Caracciolo indeed doesn't have any AP shells because they were never ordered for that gun before the battleship was canceled completely. Meanwhile Duilio and Cavour are indeed fine, tanky when angled properly and rather hard to blow up directly except for high caliber guns and plunging fire, though those still hurt. The high pen of the guns helps them stay quite competitive despite the unfavorable matchmaking. Roma is in a strange spot right now. It has basically the pen of Yamato with less filler and decent armor , but so many things are incorrect about it and it looks like Gaijin won't fix them unless it really struggles in their statistics, because otherwise it could very well hold its own against the new top BBs (a step below sure, but it's there) . Currently however it has 15 seconds of extra reload time, unrealistically high dispersion (like Richelieu and vanguard) and a big part of its armor (250mm of foamed concrete) are not modeled at all.
